  • In the HG/SS games, you can obtain all sixteen Gym Leader's phone numbers. However, you need to meet specific requirements. Some of the gym leaders are in a certain location every single day, while others are only out of their gym on certain days only. There are also a couple gym leaders whom you have to get their phone number from someone else who is related to them.

An example of specific requirements being needed to obtain a phone number would be Lt. Surge, you need to have both beaten Blue and defeated/captured Zapdos to be able to get his phone number. You also need to have a Pikachu walking with you in the overworld.

After obtaining a gym leader's phone number, you can call them up for a rematch, however, these also have a timing window. If you call at the correct time, they will ask you if you want to battle them again with a yes/no prompt. Saying yes will have them waiting for you at the Saffron City dojo.

Some of the gym leaders will also trade you a Pokemon. These gym leaders are Lt. Surge, Brock and Jasmine. Lt. Surge will ask for a Pikachu for his French Pikachu, Brock will ask for a Bonsly for his Rhyhorn. The Rhyhorn knows Thunder Fang. As for Jasmine, she will trade you a Steelix for literally any Pokemon.

Anyway, did you obtain the Gym Leader's phone numbers? What did you think of this rematch system?

I thought that the rematch system in HG/SS was terrible. Having to collect the phone numbers was tedious since many of them had to be obtained at specific times, and then having to call each Gym Leader at a different time was also frustrating, especially if you were too busy to play the game at the specific time. Platinum's Gym Leader rematch system was better.
