Gym Leaders

Gym Leaders are commonly referred to as the best trainers the Pokemon world has to offer outside of the E4 and the Champion. In the games though they are simply looked at as the obstacles that the protagonist must overcome to achieve their goal. What did you think of the Gym Leaders? Do you think they deserve to be thought so highly of when they honestly get beat so much?

Other questions: Did you have a favorite Gym Leader? A least favorite? A particular battle with a Gym Leader that was especially exciting or difficult and took multiple tries to beat?

My favourite gym leader is probably Maylene from D/P/Pt. I really enjoy her character design and pokemon team.

I don't really have a least favourite at the moment though.

I think many people will agree with me though when I say Whitney was a really bloody hard leader to beat.

I was rather disappointed with Wulfric's treatment. I don't recall his opening dialogue exactly, but it was something along the lines of "Hey dude Ice Pokémon are cool sometimes but other times they suck too".

And this is the strongest Gym Leader in Kalos? I was hoping for more of a fearsome Skyrim-esque, Norse battleaxe kind of guy.

GameFreak often squanders the opportunity to turn out some memorable and novel characters.

my favorite would probably be Gary from S/G/C. I really like it's sprite

i'm pretty agree with pie, Whitney was really hard to beat and her Miltank sure was frustrating

Fighting leaders are just really boring to me :/

If I had to pick a favorite though it would definitely be Winona. I've always had a liking for her and her gym as a whole. Not to mention that I really adore flying types in general.
