1st Gen Has anyone noticed

O-M-G. Arbok is Kobra backwards!

LOOOOL i remember reading that in my old pokemon guide i brought with all my pocket money....

edit: and no, i didn't notice that until just now.. that's pretty cool.

I'm suprised about that fact. I've been a Pokemon fan for 10 years, and I haven't noticed it until about a month ago.

Sigh, there are so many.

Bulbasaur series are all dinosaurs (but Venosaur is the only one with a poison reference, venom)
Charmander series are all Charred.
Squirle and Wartotle are both turtles, and Blastoise is a tortoise
Then- the 6 bugs (Weedle- needle, Metapod- Metal Pod (harden) and Beedrill is so obvious)
Rattata was Ratattak in the beta- Rat Attack
Spearow and Fearow (Sparrow)
Pikachu is a hard one. Pika is a squirrel/rat-type animal and Chu is the god of thunder.
Vulpix is a very hard one. Vulpix is actually a latin word, which is for a red fox (vulpix vulpix)
Dratini - Teeny Dragon
Dragonair - Air Dragon
Dargonite - Dragon Knight

Those are the ones I just randomly thought of that aren't so obvious.

Well, for everyone who's all like "Dude, you're dumb. Everyone already knows that," I didn't know that. So, it's new news to me, and I appreciate the fact you created this thread. So, thanks.
And this is the order I catch them:
Yeah. None of them. Because I don't like legendarys. 'Cept maybe Mewtwo. And I don't care about completing my PokeDex.

...just some corrections because I'm bored
> Venusaur is derived from Venus (Roman goddess of beauty, often associated with the earth element) + -saur suffix
> Metapod is more likely from metamorphosis than from metal. There's nothing metallic about it. >_>
> Pikachu comes from a pair of Japanese onomatopoeia. "pika" being the sound of crackling live wires and "chu" being the noise a mouse makes.

I knew about the birds being UNO, DOS, Tres C: Buut, I didn't know about Pikachu thing that Timbjerr pointed out.... sooo yay.

This is interesting news for me. I didn't know about that! Especially about Girafarig.

I don't catch Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres in order. It's usually Zapdos, Moltres, then Articuno when I play.

I didn't notice it, 'cause I'm French.
And so, the names are different :
Articuno : Artikodin
Zapdos : Elector
Moltres : Sulfura
It has nothing to do with an order in particular. xD
That's why I didn't notice anything, even if I knew their English names.

But what will happen if we capture them in this order ?
Nothing I guess... I didn't try, but if it was the case, I think all the world would already have been aware of it.

^ right'o, the french names aren't based on the same things :

Artikodin - "Arctic" + Odin, god of colds and ice in the Viking beliefs
Sulfura - "Sulfure" = something fire/acid related + Ra, god of sun in the Egyptian mythology
Electhor - "Electric" + Thor, god of thunder in Viking Mythology

And again, as Black Prince stated, I don't think something happens...Because I caught Articuno first, Zapdos second, and Moltres third withouth even noticing the english names relation to numbers, and nothing happened. o:

The French names are weird. Thy should have gotten another Norse god instead of an Egyptian one

Could have, but then Sulfura/Moltres would have been named something like:

Sulfugathore, Sulgathore, Sulfathore or Suloki... xD I dunno, though xD

Yeah, usually people who know Spanish notice first.

Wonderful! I've heard it before, however many others may have not :)

So... Yeah
