Why does fish smell like fish and not like onions?

EDIT: So I dictionary'd electrocution (after posting, for some reason) and found out that its meaning is actually not just getting hit by electricity but getting killed by electricity. Dammit.
 
Fish at one point tried to smell like onions, but Onions filed a lawsuit for odor copyright violation and the fish decided that onions smelled too strong. Fish kept crying everywhere they went. A new odor for fish was soon made.
