Not really, you can use any ball.
I used a great ball

How could it be impossible? All Pokemon were made to be caught.

I have caught him on Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and Leafgreen. Sometimes it was easy, sometimes it was hard.

I caught mewtwo with an ultra ball. Its not so hard if you paralyze him or put him to sleep.
