Gold and silver then crystal, ruby and sapphire then emerald, diamon and pearl then plat) i find it so annoying cos u sit there playing through say diamond and then plat comes out and u go "oh cool new game" you play it and g bin there done that oh yeah cool that same tree oh look new weather
i find it annoying dont you
    disscus

Technically this should be in the general gaming thread. But on topic, I think everyone here has noticed that, where have you been the last 10 years?

    sorry
i just find it annoying cos you play the same game over and over its too repetitvie,
but pokemon still rox even after all the people at school say its 4 5 year olds

    ...

    :8:

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    Anyways:

1.) WRONG! It was Red and Green version first, then Blue. Generation 1 is the rebel.

2.) Yes, everyone know this by now, yet this very same topic seems to be posted at a monthly basis.

3.) People appreciate it when you use periods. (Also sorry, I'm not in the happiest of moods. :[ )

    *Niprop kicks a Bidoof*

whatsa period, ohhhz u mean full stops yeah soz bout that brackets are easier on my laptop thats all

Hahaha, yes I have noticed for quite some time now. =)

Nontheless, I enjoy the third game to each generation. I love all the new improvements and addition to the storyline. For example I think Emerald was the best third edition in my opinion. The fact that you were against both teams was so much better and having Steven more involved in the storyline was a nice addition. Plus the Battle Frontier was just wonderful.

I dont find it annoying really, I just like the upgrades because of the adventures

And the special edtion to Firered and leaf green was? It couldn't have been emerald because that was the SE to Sap and Ruby.

They do things in the most confusing way sometimes. Or was emerald the SE to firered and leafgreen? If so what was the SE to sap and rub?

I think the cycle was broken last gen : )

There was no special edition to those games because they were remakes of the first Gen. games.
Emerald was SE to Ruby/ Sapphire, Crystal was SE to Gold/ Silver, and Platinum was SE for Diamond/ Pearl

Gen 1 (Gameboy and Gameboy Pocket) - Red + Blue + Green (but Green was never released in English), then Yellow

Gen 2 (Gameboy Color) - Gold + Silver, then Crystal

Gen 3 (Gameboy Advanced and Gameboy Advanced SP) - Saph + Ruby, then Emerald, then FireRed + LeafGreen

Gen 4 (Gameboy DS and Gameboy DS Lite) - Diamond + Pearl, then Platinum, then HeartGold + SoulSilver

Yes, everyone has noticed this pattern; it's just the way Pokemon games are released. Release two versions (in the case of Gen 1, three versions) of the original game with certain Pokemon that can only be acquired in one game or the other, then release a third version of the same game a year or more later (with the exception of FireRed and LeafGreen) with upgraded technology in the game and more features, for the point of releasing another game, getting more use out of the previously created Pokemon and storyline, while the developers work on the next game's Pokemon and storyline. It's no different than offering an expansion pack for a game while the developers work on the next big version of the game. :P I doubt there will be a third release to SoulSilver and HeartGold. They'll probably do the same as they did with Gen 3 and flow straight from the two remakes into Gen 5. Though, if the pattern holds, there will be a new Gameboy out by Gen 5 too. :|

No, I have never noticed this clever marketing technique. I love Nintendo, you love Nintendo, and will continue to make purchases of our....er their products.......

    XD

It's real simple, just don't buy the 3rd one.

Many people have noticed this. I as well have found this annoying. (Although I loved Crystal and Emerald) In fact, Crystal and Emerald are the only ones that I have out of all of the 'third games' I guess you can call it. I don't really think Yellow or Platinum where all that great. Meanwhile, Crystal and Emerald actually looked more entertaining with more improved features.

    Anyway, that's my opinion. xD

    Echoing the 'where have you been for the past ten years' sentiment >.>;

But seriously, if you know that Nintendo is going to release a third game, and it ticks you off, just don't buy the first two. It doesn't annoy me because I like an excuse to buy yet another Pokémon game and spend hours beating it all over again. Plus, it's always interesting to see how they've improved the third game from the other two. Emerald Battle Frontier = best thing evar.

I don't think so. Firered and Leafgreen were released in september 2004 and Emerald was released in may 2005.

I do think so. Diamond and Pearl were released in April 2007, while Platinum was released in March 2009.

Are you just now realizing this? It's taken you this long? I figured that out when I ended up with Yellow version instead of Red or Blue. Even at that age I knew it was the cream of the crop from the first two. Anyway, that's the general formula, and I see nothing wrong with it.
