    Hey all!

I recently decided to start playing Pokemon again! I'll finally realize my dream of playing the original in Japanese!

I picked up a GBA, DS XL, all the classics (in Japanese), and Pokemon X/Y.

So what I've done is started taking learning techniques I've seen around the web, and putting them together into a tool specifically for the purpose of learning Japanese while playing Pokemon. I figure Pokemon makes a good subject for this tool. It's all Hiragana, possibility to use translations in the new versions, most of the decompiling work has been done, it's massively popular and has a lot of resources, a large fanbase could help revisions,

About me.. My name is Eric. I might be the oldest guy on these forums at 27. I owe a large part of my programming passion to rom hacking around 2001. All I remember is fudging through C code trying to figure out how to make my sprites move. Things were not only very difficult back then, but I was also a confused 13 year old. Now, I understand what's going on, and that's a nice feeling.

I would love to be more involved in the forums, learning and helping where I can.

    Thanks!

Hi there, welcome to the forums! Quite an impressive and overwhelming feat to play the games in Japanese. I know a few members in your age range, but you're never too old to do something you love. Have a blast here. :D

You're definitely not the oldest. :3; We have some people in their late 20s and 30s plus I've seen someone in their 50s a while back, haha. Welcome to PC, Eric!

That definitely sounds impressive and I'd personally love to play through the Pokemon games in Japanese but that'll be after I start taking language courses in the country. Would be an awesome excuse to practice so I'm fairly excited but for now I'm holding off until I've more time.

ROM hacking was one of my passions many years back too but mostly for the playing aspect. Nowadays I can only sit around and appreciate all the work hackers and game creators do to make such wonderful things.. oh the knowledge. Anyways, see you around, yes?

I'm with Sheep, there have been people still a bit older than you here, but we have a staff member here who's the same age as you apparently. But hey, welcome to PC Eric!

And no surprise you were drawn towards our ROM Hacking section, we have so many members joining for that one board because PC has some of the best hacking resources available on the internet, and with the helpful team of hacking experts here I know you'll be getting really good advice, and I do hope your game turns out to be a good one.

So, have an awesome time here at PC and if you have questions or concerns, contact any of the staff members! They are there to help you after all, so don't hesitate to approach them when needed. I'll see you around as well, Eric! Have fun.

    Thanks Volcarona! I will!

Yah, it hasn't been easy, but I think I can really reduce the barrier to entry. I've actually taken a 2 month course on Japanese in Japan, and a 2 month course in Canada. Neither were very helpful for me =(

    Ganbaru!
