So I recently discovered the Medusa Method. I know, I know, a few years behind. As soon as I found out about it, I decided that I would use it to reach my goal of a shiny Smeargle. Previously I tried in both Diamand and Pearl with the Pokeradar, but had no success.

I'm familiar with competitive battling, and would love to get one with the right nature and IV's. I know this is possible, hence why the Medusa Method is preferred, but I have no idea how.

What I'm looking for looks a bit like this:

    Smeargle - Jolly/Timid - 31/x/31/x/31/31/31

So Pokecommunity, how exactly do I go about doing this?

It's Masuda method. You made it as if it was the mythical Greek creature.

Anyway, the Masuda Method is simple: you stick two compatible parents from different-language games in the Day Care (1 English, 1 Japanese for example) and see if they produce an egg. That egg has a higher chance of being shiny, though it's a bit slim.

Ideally, you want two Smeargles with the same IV spread (1 foreign), Jolly/Timid one with an Everstone, the other one with Destiny Knot. It's not guaranteed that all the correct IVs will pass down, I believe it is 5 of them, so it would be in your best interest to have the same IV spread for both Smeargles I think.

If you can get 2 perfect Smeargle, then you have that much better of a chance. I don't recommend Ditto only because when you breed with Ditto, it can be slower retrieving eggs than two Pokemon of the same species (but I guess if it's Masuda, foreign makes it 50% so it doesn't matter).

Oh, I'm so sorry! I'm still rather new to this whole thing.

Does anyone know how I could get two perfect IV Smearlge? Do I just spam catch, or would it be better to pay off a professional breeder?

The way I suggest is somehow getting one perfect foreign Smeargle. I'm not sure how you can do this though, you can see if anyone on here has one, or try your luck on GTS (not recommended though). You can breed the IVs from the perfect onto another Smeargle (make this one the nature you want), and then make these two perfect ones the parents.

This is incredibly difficult, and although perfect makes it easier, you may end up settling for breeding with two Smeragles with the IVs you specified (which is 7 IVs btw, there's only 6). In the end it's still not guaranteed though, so that's why shiny Pokemon with specified IVs are infinitely harder than just regular Pokeon with desired IVs.

Catching two Pokemon with 4+ perfect IVs is pretty difficult, even in the Friend Safari.

Oh christ. I'm sorry once more, first time trying stuff like this.

Thank you so much for your help!

I'm gonna run down to the trading section now.

I suppose this can be locked (if that's a thing people do here?).
