I'm sure some of us have heard of HEVC, High Efficiency Video Coding for short. It is said to compress much more than H.264 can handle, and it also has a capability of supporting 8K UHD video as well! That's said, even though this codec is still far from finished yet, the format has already been supported by several video converters so that you can enjoy it on its early form. Are you digging into this new format, and what's your experience if you have tested one? Or if you haven't yet, are you looking forward into it when the format is finalized? Discuss!

I welcome our new video codec overlords.

Watch it become the new H.264 when everything goes right. The key thing is probably making sure that new hardware ships with H.265 acceleration support.

So long as everyone gets onboard...

Are there also plans on using HEVC on movies too? If so, then I'll probably have to sell my Blu-Ray discs and replace them with the HEVC ones.
