Hey everyone!
So I've been playing Pokemon games and watching the anime for years. I am thoroughly drawn in by the vastness of the number of pokemon and the addictiveness of the games.
I joined the forum primarily because I had stopped playing my Nintendo for a few years and have only recently gotten back to it. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to a lot of things that everyone seems to know about here. That would be further displayed by the fact that I do not own any of the Gen IV games in pokemon.
My main confusion is the with Wifi enabling and accessing the online community for pokemon. I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I'm sure for a lot of you this probably sounds like an idiotic question, but I'm not much of a computer-tech person, I just love playing my games and would like to explore the massive online community attached to them.
I currently am playing White and will be starting with HeartGold in a few days. I would really love to figure out how to exchange pokemon between games because, as I've been trolling this forum and the internet over the past few weeks, I've realised that this is indeed possible, and would think it to be extremely cool if I could partner up my Emboar with a soon-to-be Ferraligator.
I'm also having a lot of trouble assembling an ideal team, so to speak. Having been away from pokemon games for quite some time, I've found that the newer games have been made tougher, which is simultaneously welcomed and a little challenging. I used to employ the brute force mechanism and train my partner to level 100 and be like a supreme God of pokemon in earlier versions. I think the only time I ever actually had an entirely equal team was when I played my first ever pokemon game, years ago, in Pokemon Yellow with my Gameboy Colour. That was the only time I had a team with all three starters (Charizard, Blastoise and Venesaur), Pikachu, Mewtwo and Pidgeot trained up to the maximum level, and the only reason I persevered there was because I was obsessed with emulating Ash's perfect team. So I don't know how to have a 'balanced' team in general because most pokemon in the later gens seem to be cross-types that are stronger and weaker against a variety of other types.
Nevertheless, I see that I'm digressing, quite severely.
If anyone would be kind enough to help guide me through all this wifi enabling, etc., I would be very thankful. I have a DS Lite and whenever I try to access the wifi in the game, it won't connect to my network because it's apparently password protected and I don't know how to go around that. Also, how do you exchange pokemon between games and online with other people because I've read a number of threads about assembling teams for online battles, etc? Lastly, what are these 'events' that everyone keeps talking about?
Any advice is welcome. Please and Thank you.
