3rd Gen "Hey! Wait! Don't go out! It's unsafe!"

My first game between FRLG was FireRed, so I went with Charmander and really enjoyed that playthrough. I've replayed the games several times since then and I think all of my subsequent playthroughs were with Squirtle, but the past two or three playthroughs I've done have been with Bulbasaur. I never nicknamed any of them until I picked Bulbasaur and I nicknamed her Rafflesia. I think since I've used them all now, I can say that Bulbasaur is my favorite, but Squirtle is a really close second; I just tend to go with Bulbasaur because there's so many good Water-types to be used later in the game like Vaporeon or Lapras.
 
When I first played it, I got Bulbasaur which is the same one I did in Red. I also didn't nickname him too. I picked him just for nostalgia purposes.

As for the good experiences, I think I used it to help me get the Legendary Pokemon via Sleep Powder which is very effective in catching them.
 
my first fire red play through i used a charizard named brimstone which was my first lvl 100
