HG/SS Help Thread

Nothing really the Pokemon has maxed out EV's in that stat? ;o

Oh and no more Ev's can be added.

Your can get an Effort Ribbon and your Pokémon (obviously) cannot gain any more EVs (unless you use EV reducing berries). I'm pretty sure that's it.

Ah, I see. So how are stats determined afterwards...if that makes any sense =/? Sorry, I'm still trying to understand how EVs work ^^;

Well, Effort Values are something you receive for defeating Pokemon. You can only get a max of 510, and a max of 255 in one stat. Every four effort points you get, that stat is increased by one. So, you can defeat one Pokemon over and over again and get a boost on one stat~

But that's just in a small nutshell, I could explain more. :3

Makes sense =). Though, once I tried EV training to increase my Vaporeon's speed stat, so I kept battling a trainer with a Rapidash. I'm pretty sure I correctly calculated how many times I needed to battle, but when Vaporeon went up a level, its speed went up by 0. I checked with the lady at Blackthorn city, and Vaporeon hadn't reached its max EVs yet. What accounts for the +0? Am I training the wrong way =S?

For one, your Vaporeon may have a nature which decreases speed. Quiet, Sassy, Relaxed, and Brave all do this.
And no, you are training the right way~ Rapidash provides 2 speed Effort Points, so every time you faint it twice, you get 1 speed added. BUT, this is to your total stat, which you won't see until it is level 100. The stat increases really become very noticeable until later, unless you get A LOT of effort points in one stat.
Err, reworded, even though you got the effort points, they won't always show in the stat increases when you level up. Am I making sense..?

Yes, you are. Very much so ^^. I assumed there would always be a stat increase every time it leveled up, so I was a bit surprised when it got 0. I recently started playing HG so none of my Pokemon have reached level 100 yet; didn't know what to expect with the stats and all.

Ohh, my Vaporeon has a Mild nature. Don't know if that would make any difference or not.

Thank you~

Anyone know a easy way to getva surfing and flying pikachu?

You can't get a Pikachu that knows Surf AND Fly. Both of them are available via the Pokewalker event course (Yellow Forest) so you'd have to trade someone who got the event for one.

If I recall correctly, you may also receive them through Pokemon Battle Revolution. (The Wii Game, so if you only have HGSS just trade for the event mon.)

Mild: + Special Attack / - Defense

How fast you start seeing the numbers/extra points from EVing can also depend on the base stats of the Pokemon in training, the IVs of your Pokemon that you are training, and how many EVs you put into the stats in question.

The lower the base stat, IV, and the EVs put into the stat, generally the slower you'll see point/stat growth as you level them up and that is just a matter of mathematics.

A lower overall stat number (base stat + IV + EVs + taking into consideration the Nature) spread out over the course of 100 levels VS a higher overall stat number (base stat + IV + EVs + taking into consideration the Nature) spread over over the course of 100 levels is going to result in the lower overall stat number growing more slowly over the course of 100 levels as compared to the higher overall stat number.

I guess you can see it as: A smaller number divided by 100 versus a larger number divided by 100.

... Hopefully that made some sense? :)

I want to know if you can breed a male machop with a female chansey. I'm trying to get an egg move of semsic toss for chansey. Serebii says you can do it. But after I fiished hatching my egg and the chansey egg didn't pop up and the old man hasn't called me.

Machop and Chansey can't breed together. Nor can Chansey learn Seismic Toss through breeding. Chansey can only learn Seismic toss through 3rd gen move tutor.

does magma armor and flame body still half the steps to hatch eggs in SS and HG? I know in D/P/Pt it did but idk if SS and HG took that away.

Also where is the best long uninterrupted stretch in SS and HG to bike along for hatching?

Yes it still does cut it in half.

The stretch I use is through Goldenrod City and a bit of Route 34.

Professor Oak won't let me go to Mt. Silver. I've got all 16 badges but he just keeps telling me to get all 16 badges... What am I doing wrong?

Did you hack?

If you've earned all 16 badges legitimately, the guard on the left-hand side of the Pokemon League Reception Gate will no longer block the entrance to Mt. Silver.

No, I didn't. My game has been corrupted before by me accidentally dropping it but would that effect a new game since I had to start all over?

No, it shouldn't. Try beating the E4 second time too. I am not sure what is wrong, possibly some miscoding in your game, but you should be able to get in. Getting all 16 badges is all it takes to get in.

How many pokemon are in Johto Pokedex?
