Don't worry if you're new at spriting, I know that with a little practice and sheer determination, you'll get better. Honestly though your avatar looks pretty good! I'm impressed with how you made that, because I can't sprite worth pie. XD As for game making, I'd love to see you excel in that too! It's also really cool that you know spriting because that will speed up the process of making the game, I bet.
Two cool sections that I recommend you visit would be the
Pixel Art section (which I saw you've posted in already, yay!) and the
Game Development section. I know the first one will help you improve as an artist, because you'll get great feedback and perhaps some tips from the local pros. The second one will also be a great help, because it's really a haven for anyone aspiring to make a Pokémon fan game from scratch using stuff like PokeEssentials. Make sure you familiarize yourself with their own section rules quick, and read a few stickies too, to be able to jump into action rather quickly without stumbling. :D And while you're at it, the forum-wide rules will also appreciate it if you take a gander.
