FireRed hack: [HotM October 2009] Pokémon ToxicPurple (Team Rocket hack)

"First time you beat a gym leader"? It's not like you're going to be beating a lot of gym leaders. :P

There's a slight chance you might battle Misty; I've got an idea that maybe, when you come into town, Red has just left and you run into Misty heading to the Pokémon Center to heal her Pokémon after losing to Red, and challenge her to a battle there since she's been weakened. So you pwn the leader and maybe steal something.

That's only a possible idea, though, and not even a very good one. Most gyms will just make it impossible for you to even get that close to the leader. Sabrina will teleport you outside before you can get close, Brock is out of the gym when you show up in Pewter, Lt. Surge locks his electrical gate from the inside and gets a couple of cops to escort you outside if you get close (and probably to fine you like $400 for attempting to harrass a gym leader or something), et cetera. Battling a gym leader and then getting turned down for a badge isn't even going to be possible, and if you're allowed to battle a gym leader, it will be as part of a special event, not by walking into the gym.

At this points, there are finalized plans for you to battle four gym leaders (counting both Kanto and Johto gym leaders). There are possible plans for another two, one of which is Misty. Not a single one of these battles occurs in anything vaguely resembling a gym/badge/league battle.

News of the next alpha: I'm working on the script for the first "promotion" battle now, with a field agent in the Saffron Base. Field agents, actually. (A cookie for anyone who can guess who they are, but it's not that hard a guess. XD) It's a double battle with four Pokémon total; considering that you'll have the option to challenge them right after battling the lv. 11 Marowak, what do you think appropriate levels for their Pokémon would be? I'm thinking either level 7 or level 8 for their teams, since several lower-level Pokémon can be harder than one higher-level Pokémon.

Oh, I have just beat that Marowak and obtained the Machete and was going to the TR HQ to get my promotion when I read this lol. SO I guess the alpha is over (for now).

Id prefer that all of their pokes were lv 8 (for 4 pokes its okay).
Lemme guess, the field agents are Jessie and James, right? (if they are you owe me a cookie XD). What team have you invented for 'em?

Okay, cool!

And if you want levels, I have a suggestion. You see, when I beat Marowack, my team was around level 14/15. So you should make the agents Pokemon level 9 at the least. If not 10.

And are the two field agents Butch and Cassidy?

clret2~

I would say if they are evolved Pokemon keep them 7/8 however if they are still first stage they could be as high as 10. Of course hopefully there will be some grass in the next Alpha so if its a struggle we can train? :)

3/4 of them are first stage, one is second stage. There will be grass in the next alpha, but I don't want to force everyone to have to level up too much; since this is going to be such a long hack, if there's a whole lot of leveling up early on, towards the end of the hack all the levels might end up kinda crammed together. I think I'll stick two at 8 and two at 9, to split the difference between 7/8 and 10.

Id prefer that all of their pokes were lv 8 (for 4 pokes its okay).

Level 8, then? Okay, sounds like two at 8 and two at 9 are a good split.

And you have won yourself a cookie, congratulations. I'm basing their team off of their Pokémon from the first season. (Meowth won't be on their team. He doesn't fight unless it's a matter of saving his own tail.)

XD All right then, 8/9 is definitely a good split. (And considering who the opponents are, it's not like they'll be that hard to beat.) And nope, not Butch and Cassidy, though you might get to fight them at some point. (Butch has already made a cameo, so...)

Okay. And since it's going to be a long game, that's fine. (Makes the game EVEN better!) And Butch made a cameo already? I don't think I saw him... Could you explain?

He's in the first door on the right side in the Rocket Base, hanging out with Nurse Woe

Yep, like XDragon said, he's inside the Saffron Base, in the pseudo-Pokémon Center.

I mainly lurk around these forums
but I am wondering about something

after I beat the alpha I started a new game
and enabled the Walk through walls code, and I walked around the begining area and got all kinds of items from this grunt, including master ball, and I used the warp pad behind all of the grunts. I looked at my pokemon and I see I have a full set at lvl 50

mewtwo
machamp
Scizor
Aerodactyl
Dugtrio
Sneasal

all at lvl 50
glitch/bug/porposly?

just wondering
it looks like it will be a good game

So the first two would be Ekans and Koffing then. Which are the other two?
BTW are you gonna stick with the normal TR Grunt sprite for Jessie and James or shall I revamp the one from Yellow? Please let me know.

IMO, Oddish and Zubat. Yea, so there may be an epic Oddish fight, but of all Pokemon (unless your gonna go all anime and give James a Magikarp and Jessie a Wobbuffet), those are which Pokemon I can see them having the most.

Or James could have a Bellsprout and Jessie a Lickitung

Ah. XD You found my "all your base" Grunt? Yeah, while I'm test running the game, I usually want to be able to get past the beginning stuff quickly. If all I want to do is start a new game, get to the top of Pokémon Tower, beat the Marowak, then head downstairs to see if the post-Marowak scripts are working, I don't want to waste my time going through the get-your-Rattata script, the get-your-Pokédex script, the get-a-Silph-Scope script, the steal-from-Diana script, and then beating a bunch of Mediums and leveling up my Pokémon, over and over and over...

So while I was test-running the game, I changed the movement permissions on several maps so I could walk behind the first room table and walk through the trees and fences around the Rocket Base entrance, and I made a script that would set most of the early flags (Pokémon menu flag, Pokédex flag) and give a set of Pokémon that I didn't have to train, and then added a warp pad that I could change depending on where I wanted to go. (For example, while I was testing the Marowak script, the warp pad took me to the second-to-top floor of Pokémon Tower. I think it currently leads to Viridian, because I wanted to see if I'd successfully changed Oak's Parcel into Big Machete, and the quickest way to do that was to walk into the Viridian PokéMart and let that guy go "Hey, are you from Pallet Town? Take this to Oak! *gives Oak's Parcel/Big Machete*")

I was just gonna leave it there, but considering that there are people who will go through the trouble of beating Sabrina in the first alpha, there are probably gonna be people who'll jump at the chance to get some illegal level 50s, now that they know about it. XD So I'll be sure to remove that warp pad and that script in the next alpha, to be on the safe side.

I'm already working on a revamp. Right now, I'm putting together a couple of Gen III sprites (with some splicing and a few scratch parts) to make Jessie and James, because the Gen I sprite proportions are a bit off from what Gen III proportions are like. Right now, I'm borrowing from the RSE Beauty sprite for Jessie, and possibly the FRLG male Cooltrainer sprite for James.

Or James could have a Bellsprout and Jessie a Lickitung

Pretty close; James gets a Weepinbell (even though it'll be underleveled), since in the anime he started off with a Weepinbell instead of a Bellsprout. And yes, the other two are Ekans and Koffing. Too bad there aren't any Antidotes available yet, eh? :P At least you'll be fighting them in the Saffron Base Break Room, right next to a vending machine and only a few rooms away from Nurse Woe. But Jessie and James won't be bright enough to do anything like give berries to all their Pokémon and stock up on Potions, so there's one advantage.

I'm following the anime for their team, but I wouldn't be so cruel as to give James a Magikarp or so weird as to give Jessie a Wobbuffet this early.

I was wondering if in the next release are you removing the guy that gives you psychic so that i know to start the game over

Yeah, I'm going to change his script. But basically what I think I'm going to do is changing his script to a battle, so that you'll have to fight him to get the TM and you won't get the option to fight him until after Silph is taken over. I might make it so that you can steal a Pokémon from him, but if I don't, all you really lost is the opportunity to battle him. So, hey, a slightly easier and earlier TM steal is what you get if you talk to him now; unless I give him a steal-able Pokémon, you haven't disrupted the continuity by much.

Nice, battling Jessie and James seems fun.

Oh, and I know it is kind of late for this, but I made a support bar, just in case you wanted another one.

I kinda guessed it was for testing, but I was just mind ****ed when I saw the lvl 50's and the items.

Keep working on it, the alpha got me hooked, not many do

I really enjoy this mod. The trainers are a little tough to beat, seeing how they have way more pokemon than you, and how rattata can't really do damage to ghosts, but I have to say that this is one of my favorite mods.

And by the way...

To the people who've been beating the dojo and Saffron gym: Please cut it out. Unfortunately, you're going to have to start over the game eventually if you've already beaten the Saffron gym, and you may have to later as well if you beat the dojo. Sabrina's badge is going to be one of the most important flags in the Kanto arc, and if you set the flag prematurely, it'll make it impossible for you to do some of the earlier events that will be necessary for the plot to progress. So, if you've already got the badge, you're kinda screwed, and you'll have to start over. At least you're pretty near the beginning of the game, so you won't have much to redo. If you haven't got the badge yet, don't. Same goes for the dojo, because while its role in the hack hasn't been 100% solidified yet, I've got enough of an idea of what it'll do that I know that triggering those flags prematurely will cause more harm than good. (Like potentially losing the chance to get both of the Kanto Hitmons without breeding.)

Next time I release an alpha, I'll make sure that all the little things like gyms and items and script quirk that I'll "fix in the next alpha," I just do the first time, so that problems like this won't arise again. When you get to Cerulean, expect Misty to turn you down flat if you walk into the gym. :P

... Or maybe she won't. We'll just see.
WHAT!! I beated the dojo does this means i need to *Gulp* Restart really, but if you mean only the Saffron gym then *Phew*.

This does look rather impressive, very good idea for a hack! I did feel sorry for the girl in the video though, poor thing.

I have an idea for the route below lavander:
the police are blocking it off because a snorelax is causing trouble for some reason. They don't arrest you because they are dumb enough not to notice that you're a rocket.

Also, you could make the snorelax problem into an event later in the game, where other rockets are fighting for it, and making it angry.
