How adorable...too bad it can't fight to save itself. D:

-Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
For some reason I've always been fond of Kecleon

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
Yes, I've tried using it before but it just didn't work out

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
It already has an amazing Special Defense so I would add a few better moves to it's movepool and increase it's speed just a little(maybe about 70).

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
I have an extreme fondness for Shuckle. I just find it so cute! Poor thing is way too slow and has way too little HP though.
- Do you let that deter you from using it?
No. In fact, I've created a competetive team that should remove said crappy combat potential.
- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
Make his base stats more even, like 50/110/120/50/100/50.

- Too many to name:
a few: Beedrill Butterfree Masquerain Mothim Kecleon Zangoose Seviper Lunatone Dewgong Glalie

- No, because I ONLY really use these underrated beauties.

- Their stats need retweaking especially the bugs. Lunatone dewgong and glalie need bigger movepools and the latter two a more interesting stat distribution. Zangoose and Seviper are just my children. (not literally) but they need a boost, maybe an Evo.

(Mothim and Masquerain are my two favourite pokemon possibly and Gen V did them wonders. Quiver dance is awesome, although i really wish Masquerain was Bug/water :( )

Pachirisu, <3 It's so cute. :D But so crappy. ;__; Along with Ampharos. sensing a theme here,

- Do you let that deter you from using it?

Pachirisu, yes. Ampharos, no. I'll still use Ampy, since it has some potential, but Risu is just. >:

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)

I'd give Risu slightly higher base stats, and a larger movepool. I'd give Ampy a bigger movepool and higher speed. :3 I wouldn't be like, "hurr durr 140 in every stat."

Zangoose and Seviper evos?:O Blasphemy!!

I really disagree with you on this one, Though aren't worth much in competitive play, they can wreak some havoc in-game. Evos would ruin their design, I pray they'll never get one.
Anyway, their stats, while not high, seem to be distributed quite nicely, they also got some good movepools.

If I had to improve them, I'd increase their stats to the heights of Miltank/tauros. And I'd decreaase Zangoose's special attack to increase it's speed and attack.

Solosis started out like this, given that the slightest drop of rain would disintegrate it, but I stuck with it because it's freakin' adorable, and I wanted myself a Reuniclus... Eventually, I got that Reuniclus, and rest assured, I was a happy camper with that absolutely grotesquely high Special Attack Stat. So! If you're struggling with a Solosis/Duosion, believe me when I say that Reuniclus will be more than worth your while. It's also a gummy bear, so if you get lost and hungry while exploring a dungeon...

Why has no one mentioned Skitty? The design is awsome but It SUCKS! I searched forever to catch it and then when I got it, It was terrible!

Yeah, even worse if Skitty/Delcatty has Normalize cos that means the only way to attack Ghost-types with it is to teach it Foresight, which didn't happen until Platinum!

For me, it was Ampharos. I used this all the way up to the Elite Four and it just didn't stack up despite knowing Signal Beam.

After the National Dex, I replaced her with Manectric, who hits harder.

Changing stats: Ampharos needs better Speed.

Also I want to give Octillery a mention, I have one knowing Water Pulse, Charge Beam, Ice Beam and Signal Beam. But when I entered her in a Battle Tower Multi Battles challenge she was so close to being a One-hit KO victim. I still won by teaming her with Lucario. Rather use Kingdra in the future.

If I had to change Octillery's stats: Terrible Speed, that's why I was so close to losing... so I'd make a better Speed stat. And the HP stat is so lackluster, no wonder why she was close to being a One-hit KO victim so many times! HP definitely needs improving!

I would say Grumpig.

Sure its thick fat and ability to use rest- sleeptalk/snore is nice. It just needs some stats that would make it more appealing because I never see anyone use it.

It's not that it's terrible. But outclassed by most other psychic types like Gardevoir or Alakazam. I sugjest giving it some more HP or atleast defense.

Some others I wont go too deep into detail are:

Delcaty, kekleon, spinda, magcargo, castform, absol, chimecho, solrock/lunatone, cacturne and oh my gosh the list of underpowered pokemon just goes on and on and on and....

my favorite would have to be liepard. i don't really know if its sheer badness would make me stop using it though...
i think i would try to improve it by using a macho brace or something.

it's unfortunate that it has to be so bad.

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
Kadabra's defense and Parasect's speed

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
No way, they're two of my all-time favourite pokémon, I'm gonna persevere with them no matter what

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
I'm fine with both movepools, so yeah just the aforementioned stats :) I'm not asking for a huge increase, just something that would make them more manageable is all

Piloswine. I like his design better than Mamoswine because I can laugh at it but it has some annoying weaknesses. In fact, it's weak against every single one of the starters in every game lol. Even Mamoswine still has the same annoying weaknesses although its stats are higher and I don't like its design as much. What's also annoying is there aren't very many physical ice moves as opposed to special attack ice moves, and its special attack is very low. I would prefer to use him as an ice type opposed to ground because usually I never have any trouble finding ground types ever.

- Do you let that deter you from using it?

Not in Gen 5. In previous generations it did though. I found that despite its many weaknesses it helped balance out a few resistances on my team.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)

I would drop ATT to 100, raise Sp. Att. to 100, and raise speed to 90 (hello, it's a mammoth, it should be fast).

@okjoek:

I like grumpig, and though there are a lot of Psychic type who are better, I don't think he's bad at all.
He could use some points in Defense and HP though, and Nasty Plot and Flamethrower would be some welcome additions to his moveset.

Anyway, I think that most pokemon With a total base Stat lower then 450 should be at least raised to 450, or perhaps even 480/500

For example, Grumpig's stats would end up looking like this:

HP 80 - 95
ATK45 - 45
DEF65 - 90
SAT90 - 90
SDF110 - 110
SPD80 - 80
Total: 470 - 510

I think that this would make him fairly Bulky, He doesn't need that much extra points, I mean 510 is pretty high for Pokes with only 1 evolution.
Combine this with moves like Slack off (Kinda fits with pig, doesn't it?) Cosmic Power, Nasty Plot, and Flamethrower ( IDK, I think Flamethrower matches this guy)
and you should have a fairly strong poke.

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?

For me it was Raichu ;;

- Do you let that deter you from using it?

Heck yes lol XD

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)

EV training it, teaching it high Sp. A moves and Speed raising moves.

Furret. I think Furret has a good design, but has very bad base stats.

What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
I'll fix his base stats.
HP : 85 -- 90
ATK: 76 -- 90
DEF: 64 -- 80
SPA: 45 -- 45
SPD: 55 -- 70
SPD: 90 -- 100

-Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
Flareon comes to mind.

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
Yea. I want to, but I suppose I know it will be futile.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
MORE PHYSICAL ATTACKS! Either that or swap it's ATK with it's Sp.ATK, then we're talking >:D

  • For me, it's gotta be Liepard. It looks like it can hold its own in a fight, but in reality it can barely fight at all.
Do you let that deter you from using it?

  • Yes, yes I do.
What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant?

  • Give it more attack stats and more of a moveset where its damaging attacks aren't total games of luck (pursuit, assurance, thief, that's about all it has)

One of my favorite is Mawile. I lovew this little pokemon...but too weak :(
I tried once to pass the game with him.
Total fail XD
He was like 10 level stronger than E4, but still the E4 beat him without problem.

Girafarig, its ttyping gives it no resistances and although it stats are balanced, more speed or it having either awesome SpATK or ATk rather than both being average would be nice.

Swellow, Just needs a better movepool IMO

Um, Failord. Needs to fail less.

Sableye. Needs to have better base HP. Prankster bumped him up like 80 pegs but his HP is still pathetic. He doesn't need any more attacks or stats, though.

Mawile. Needs to have better stats in general. Movepool is fine for support. Doesn't really need any other changes.

Swellow, Just needs a better movepool IMO

Seeing as how Staraptor does everything Swellow wants to do, but better, this is a long shot. Swellow has everything it needs right now--Guts, Flame Orb, immense SPE, and STAB Facade / Quick Attack. It also learns Brave Bird... Though, a Dark-type move wouldn't hurt either.

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
Lilligant. I wanted a cool grass type for my BW run, but when I realised how bad she was... D:

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
Yeah, because learning only grass moves is pretty terrible.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
Just learn some more moves! I mean, even if they're by TM, that's okay. Please learn more than normal, grass and one terrible psychic move.
