I have been wondering this for a while. How exactly are Pokémon measured?

    I'll explain.

We measure animals, for example, a dog's height from the ground to the top of the shoulder blades, at the base of the neck. My dog's measured height is 18". But she's actually 24 inches from the ground to the top of her head.

Let's look at Arcanine, a canine pokemon. Despite what the anime suggest, Arcanine is a very large Pokémon. His Pokédex entry state's that he is 6 foot 3 inches tall. That's 75 Inches tall.

Now, here's the fun part. If we measure Pokémon like we do animals, IRL, then taking the height to actual height ratio from my dog (which is 3:4 BTW), we can calculate that the average Arcanine would be ~94 Inches from ground to top of head. That's nearly 8 feet tall.

So, is Arcanine slightly taller than the average human at 6 foot 3 inches, or does it tower above the average human at 7 foot 8 inches?

    Spoiler:

i'm not getting what you're saying.
wouldn't arcaine still be 6'3", but with a normal ratio? there would be no size difference.

If Arcanine was 6'3" at the shoulder, then when standing, the top of his he would be about 8 feet off the ground.

where does it state that it's the shoulder height? it's a nintendo game, it doesn't have those kinds of specifics. besides, in all the pokedex entries, arcanine is the right size to be 6'3" at the top of it's head (i think it's gen4 they included player height)

That's what I'm wondering about, It doesn't state it anywhere that it's top of the head height, or not. It just says the height. I wouldn't of questioned it if it weren't for the weird way we measure animals IRL.

i dont have heartgold so i cant do it for you, but if you look on the pokedex it tells you the size of the player and the size of the pokemon, and the sprites are resized accordingly.

With horses irl it's also shoulder height sort of, iirc.

But when the games show compared sizes between trainer and pokemon I think it's the whole pokemon from toe to edge of ear (in cases like Pikachu). Depends a bit on how they made the sprite to be posed. But I think they don't mean shoulder height, no. Rather, in Arcanine's case, from toe to tip of head when standing up straight.

But I wanted Acranine to be eight feet tall :(

Yeah that makes sense. Aren't the Black & White and B&W2 trainers 16 years old? While Ash is only 10. Makes sense that Ash looks smaller when paired up with an Arcanine.
