How did Gary gain 10 badges in Kanto?

He probably made them himself out of wood glue and crackers.

But yeah, I'm guessing there are other gyms Ash didn't challenge.

Yas Gym and Kas Gym aren't recognized by the Pokémon League so they wouldn't be official anyway. Saffron Fighting Dojo isn't a gym in the games so it might not be recognized in the animé.

I think that each region has many gyms, but when a trainer signs up for the gym challenge, they are given 8 gyms they must beat at random(or another factor), so this is why trainers have different badges. Some people would challenge other gyms for fun or training, even if they didn't require them.

There are more badges and gyms in each region in the anime than there are in the games, since a lot of people can just go up and start a Gym. Not all are official, though.

But as has already been stated above, only eight are required for the league.

You'd think someone so crazy about battling Gyms like Satoshi/Ash would challenge them all, but I guess he's too pumped about getting into the League to bother with other Gyms, most of the time... ^^;

the league.

Weird..... this picture has 41 badges. 41. In total of the games, there should only be 40.

they only had at over 8 badges so he could lose to giovanni but still be in the Pokemon league.
