How did this slip by?

I was just checking out Call of Legends, and Houndoom came up. It looked terribly familiar, Too familiar one might say. Undaunted came out not too long ago, and it had Houndoom. Now this would be fine if they weren't the exact same card apart from the picture.
Do you think this was intentional? Why reprint a card that was printed not too long ago?

A majority of the Call of Legends set are reprints. What's even worse is that the Undaunted Houndoom is going to be reprinted AGAIN as a League promo soon.

Another recent example of a card being reprinted in a more recent set is Bebe's Search, which was reprinted in Platinum: Arceus while having been released in the Secret Wonders set.
Actually, Bebe's Search was first released in Mysterious Treasures, then reprinted in Secret Wonders, which was the very next set! It was most recently reprinted in Rising Rivals, not Arceus.

Call of legends was known to partially be a reprint set, the rest being from the Japanese set 'lost link' which we hadn't yet received in English. Houndoom, smeargle, leafeon, copycat, gyarados, and several others are all cards with reprinted text and alternate art. People have often speculated as to why they would reprint these cards in a set that is already in the same 'block' as the originals, so to speak (they all belong to the heart gold soul silver block). My guess is that they are planning two rotations from now to be unleashed-on, and reprinted all of the hgss cards they wanted to keep in that format in anticipation of that.

Ah. I didn't know that it was first released in MT. I thought it was first released in SW. And, yeah, I meant Rising Rivals, not Arceus.

A lot of the trainers in Call of Legends are reprints... It really makes no sense to why they would need to do that.

They likely reprinted them because they are some of the more useful trainers that they don't plan on rotating and wanted to make them easier to get for those who do Organized Play tournaments.

Yeah, that sounds pretty right. Now I look back on it a lot of those reprints are decent trainers...

It's part of their strategy to keep things accessible and cheaper by "flooding" the Organized Play card pool with these cards. I think more than a few of these trainers have been or will be League Promos as well.
