How do I know which Pokemon is good?

I have basically 0 experience in Pokemon games besides Pokemon Reborn which I am playing right now and Pokemon Emerald which I used to play when I was like 5 years old.

I mean, I know I can view its' stats but how do I know if they're good compared to other Pokemons? Is every Pokemon good when it reaches a high level?

Well, when they evolve, they can become particularly good, in normal gameplay, at least.

But if you take the metagame into account, it's a lot more complicated, but just by looking at a Pokémon's tier will most probably determine how good it is compared to others. For example, Garchomp is in the OU (OverUsed, meaning it's used frequently), and is better compared to Salamence (which is in UU, or UnderUsed).

So, a Pokémon can be considered "good" by your standards, as long as it helps you progress in your game.

Shhhh... Don't tell the new users about competitive tiers, they don't matter in-game.

You are playing Emerald, right? Your starter will be quite good. If you grabbed a Ralts on Route 102 keep him around. Nincada evolves into two pokemon simultaneously if you have an extra PokeBall and an extra party slot when you evolve him. But this is in-game were talking about, basically any non-Slaking pokemon works just fine. I mean, I always catch a Tropius in Emerald, but its pretty awful competitively.

Alright, thanks for the help. Sorry about the late response lol, I kinda lost interest in Pokemon games and now I wanna retry.

Any tips/useful sites for me to know which Pokemons are good in every game?

Depends on what you would call "good". Do you want to be all-out offensive? Defensive? A well-rounded team?

See, because you're not doing competitive battles, I think all Pokémon are good! You see, it depends on which Pokémon your facing. It depends on their stats, abilities, movesets, but most importantly, their types. If you're facing a Psychic-type Pokémon, a Dark-type/Ghost-type move would be much better than a Fire-type move, for example.

You can use websites like serebii, or Pokémon Database, to see many information regarding Pokémon, and to see which Pokémon are in your current game you're playing ^^

Its very simple: you use them. The point isn't finding Pokemon that are good but finding Pokemon that you like. There are very few Pokemon that are worthless (I'm looking at you Unown).
