6th Gen How good is the consecutive fishing method for getting a shiny?

    Thinking of trying to get a shiny pokemon with this method, and read about how the consecutive fishing method is pretty good, what other methods are there of finding shinies or easier ones that anyone knows of? I just received the old rod, and I reckon if I bag myself a shiny magikarp or shiny tentacool, I will be happy, has anyone else tried and tested this method if so what are your thoughts on it?
     
    (Sorry about the delayed response. I was going to respond to this myself, but I wanted to wait and see if anyone who's tried it would have an answer)

    Hmm, unfortunately I've not really tried it myself. I've heard some success with it, but without first-hand experience I can't say for sure how reliable it is. I can't find any data on what the odds are exactly of catching a shiny with it either. I'm planning on doing some hard-core shiny hunting some time soon though, so maybe I'll give it a try and have some insight for you eventually :)

    Meanwhile, anyone with some experience have any input? :o

    Just like regular chaining, your chances of getting a shiny increase with every encounter.
    Get a Pokémon with Suction Cups because it increases the chances of getting a hook when you cast your rod. Your chances are also increased if the spot where your hook lands is enclosed, if it has rocks around it (corners are good for this.)

    It's pretty reliable, but it's still random. This is only my experience, but I caught a Relicanth not long after I started after having first heard about it, and then got a Skrelp later on the same night.

    Note that capturing a Pokémon breaks the chain. You have to either flee from it or defeat it.
     
    I find this method a lot easier than the pokeradar. I managed to catch at least 7 shinies with that method. All it takes is patience depending on your luck and to always be alert so you don't miss a bite.
     
    Like the others said, you must stay alert when fishing because you could miss your bite. Having the Suction Cups ability on your lead Pokemon (Lileep/Cradily makes a good candidate here) is also highly recommended.

    Also, I'd probably recommend keeping track of your encounters by tallying them.
