How large is your vocabulary?

    Basically how many words you know and how to use them, or use a different word that means the same thing. For example, Atrocious = Horrible.

    So how large is yours? Do you use it often? Do people even know what you're even saying?

    I would like to believe that I have a plethora of words in my noggin. <= Oh damn. see, see that right thurr?

    My vocabulary is somewhere between very good and average. I use the complex vocabulary occasionally so that my brain won't get strained.

    Not vey big, but I don't care.

    It's fairly good I'd say. Most of the words I use that push me past an average vocabulary are like niche words which are fairly random and unique I guess. I don't even know what that really means though...

    While my vocabulary is indeed a vast and largely untapped resource, it does see some use. Of course most of the back end is simply knowing what the word means. The farther back in the list it is, the less likely I am going to use it, unless the topic and sentence structure calls for it.

    I wouldn't say that I have a very expansive vocabulary, however I would say that my vocabulary is perhaps a touch above average. I know plenty of people with wider vocabularies than I, but I've also come across many who feel that I use more complex words than are necessary. Either way, I'm not too worried about it. I mean, it sure is beneficial, and I'm a fan of learning new words, but I'm also perfectly content with the rate I'm learning new words at now, and don't feel the need to do anything special to further enhance my vocabulary.

    Mine is fairly big.. but nothing to especially write home about. I still get stumped on some old novels from the 1800 when they used larger, more obscure words.. but I also tend to look them up. It's too bad that I then forget half of them because I don't end up using them.. but I guess that's alright.
    My favourite word recently is paroxysm :3

    I've always been very good at English, although I hate it. I literally NEVER read, even when it was required for school, but I always got reading scores off the charts. (The charts going up to 1500. I'm sure plenty of other people do it, but I think it's sort of unusual for someone who never reads. lol)

    So, I'd say mine is pretty big.

    I do use a lot of varying words when talking about different things.

    It just depends on who I am talking to really. If I am talking to friends, then pretty standard English, but if at a job interview or friends of the family, I will make an effort with my vocabulary.

    Words use too big. Me no get it.

    My vocab. is so-so. I hate really big words with roots I can't identify, and if you ask me to define a word I most likely won't be able to, even though I can use it in a sentence correctly (for example, if you ask me to define "define", I can use it correctly as shown, but I cannot define it whatsoever). How I get 100s on vocab. tests though, don't ask me.

    There are some big words I really love (phantasmagoria, for example) that I know the definitions to. And words with roots I can identify are also easy for me to figure out. So yeah.

    I like to keep my speech colorful and interesting, even among peers irl, where casual speech is the norm. XD

    I consequently have a fairly large vocabulary, which feeds one of the few things that I'm really OCD about, that being that I abhor using the same word more than once in a post/conversation, so I use synonyms quite a bit. :P

    I think it might be larger then the average person or at least by comparing it with the people I've met it seems larger. I just think it's fun to add in a word that you don't hear everyday. It causes a sentence to sound richer and when written out it has a dignified look. :3

    I try to use fancy words in regular conversation with friends just for the sake of doing it. They usually don't know what I'm talking about, but I love when I meet someone who actually does!

    My expanse of vocabulary depends solely on the topic at hand. I like to think I know a lot of words, but then again, I just use the Thesaurus a lot. xD

    Among my peers irl, I conjecture I have the most vast vocabulary. Since, most of my friends don't really speak and interpret English to much of a rational extent. And English really isn't the mode of communication when we're talking to each other, hence, making things rather difficult. I think my vocabulary is a little above average, and I don't really use it often, unless I'm writing on paper. Well, I think most people understand what I say. If someone doesn't, then I'll try to contrast.

    I don't know every word, of course, but I put effort and pride into my linguistic ability. I've been told I'd make a good writer (and illustrator).

    or use a different word that means the same thing. For example, Atrocious = Horrible.
    Atrocious = of atrocity
    Horrible = of horror

    There is fair overlap but, ultimately, few two words are entirely synonymous; their sets of definitions are a little different and so are the contexts they work best in.

    Well I'd like to think that my vocabulary is pretty big! Especially compared to other people.
    Since English isn't my native language, it's only natural to assume that my vocabulary isn't as big as someone's who was born and raised in English speaking region!
