I Defeated the Elite Four, now what?

You've bested all 8 gym leaders and have spent multiple hours training on Victory Road to prefer for the final test: the Elite Four. For many of the games, these are the best battlers that you must face to complete your game. You spend so much time preparing for the string of battles which lay ahead, and a feeling of ecstasy overcomes you when you finally defeat the champion. Now you are the new champion, and you're the best battler in the region. Supposedly no one is better than you! You've technically beaten the game, now what else is there to do? The questions is, after you defeat the main "storyline" of the game do you do anything extra after? Do you spend the extra time completing your pokedex or visiting the safari? Maybe you go to the battle Subway and knock out a bunch of trainers for fun.

Do you think that Game Freak has gotten better with adding things to do (longevity) after youve beaten the game? I personally thought that there was a lot more players could accomplish after beating Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 than beating X and Y. I thought that Game Freak actually took a step down in their newer titles. However, with the use of the friend safari Pokemon X and Y was better with connecting with friends. What are your guys' opinions?

I agree with the part about X & Y. There really isn't anything to do once the E4 are defeated, and I really enjoyed the post-game in earlier games.

RSE was probably the game with the least amount of postgame. They tried to improve it in Emerald by adding the Battle Frontier, but then again, it wasn't really a big addition considering the existence of the Battle Tower. Catching Kyogre and Groudon too wasn't really too much to do, you would think they would make a whole new postgame story after considering the Sevii Islands in FRLG.

I actually go through the postgame story, if there is any. I don't care for miscellaneous things added a lot, though. Strictly speaking, there shouldn't be any postgame, because the game's ending should appear final. But ever since they allowed us to go through Kanto after defeating the E4 in Gold, I think it's become a staple.

Game Freak is terribly inconsistent with post-game content. Red/Blue/Yellow and Ruby/Sapphire had pretty much no post-game content, while Gold/Silver (and their remakes) and Black2/White2 had lots of post-game content. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum was sorta in between. I was disappointed with X/Y's post game content. Besides the Looker missions (which were good but short), there's not a whole lot to do. (yes yes, I know, there's breeding an competitive battles, and I enjoy those very much, but i want more than that too)

And it really sucks. Having a lot of (good) post game content is such a good thing to have. I swear, I'll kill someone at Game Freak if they don't have good post game content in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire...

It depends on the game, really; sometimes you have more content post-storyline, and sometimes you don't. It all depends on how much motivation and ideas they have. d: Personally, I loved X and Y's post-game content; those Looker quests were pretty fun to do, if you ask me. Alongside, I also liked Black and White's, where you got to search and battle all those Team Plasma guys.

Remakes generally have had lots of post-game content.

I kinda felt FRLG's post game content wasn't all that much to go nuts about, and in HGSS Kanto doesn't have all that much more than the original games did, but that's just me.

They ought to try something like The Elder Scrolls where you can mess around in the world and partake in the high number of sidequests after the main plot. Or before, even. Would help with the non-competitive replay value (yes this is important :P)

I actually quite like the stuff that's after X/Y, going to Kiloude City and the Battle Maison was a blast cause it's actually quite challenging for me, so it's fun trying to compile a team to take it on :)

Pokemon Ranger games had all sorts of quests you could do in game - i dont know why they dont have all sorts of quests like that in pokemon games.

You can ignore them if you want, or go ahead and give em a whiz

I spend my time after the main games trading with friends or training my Pokemon to absurd levels. Or if it exists, battling in whatever equivalent to the Battle Tower is in the games.

Really, there isn't that much post-game content in X/Y, the most notable games for post-game stuff being B/W2. The addition of the PWT and its multiple tournaments helps to pass time in the games. Platinum, HG/SS and Emerald had the Battle Frontier, yet another way to kill time in the Pokemon games, sadly this feature has had limited releases.

In games like Diamond and Pearl, all you really had for post game content was the Battle Tower, Giratina and Cresselia. However in Platinum, you got things like the Battle Frontier, Dialga, Palkia and the three legendary Kanto birds. It shows that Game Freak have tried for a post game in the later games, though this kind of died down a bit after subsequent games up to B/W2.

I personally think a quest system would be pretty neat in the Pokemon games, seeing as in the environment of the games, it would make sense. It's a thing I'd like to see in the near future, and can make a post game become an after story, even.

I believe they have gotten better with post game activities. B/W and X/Y in particular had tons of stuff to do. However, this is part of the reason I enjoy G/S/C and HG/SS so much; you get to travel to a whole other region and do everything there. Then do the E4/Champion again.

I actually liked the Emerald post-game. Ruby and Sapphire post-game was abysmal, but the Battle Frontier was a lot of fun, and I spent countless hours trying to best the various buildings. In short, I didn't succeed with too many, ahaha. Post-game content is certainly overlooked too often, and serious time and effort should be put into it. It could be what separates a new main series Pokemon game from mediocrity - that's how big of a factor it can be.
