Ok i have a Gyarados which is a BulkyDos

    Gyarados@leftovers
    Adamant Nature
    214 HP 16 ATT 180 DEF 100 SPEED
    - Waterfall
    - Earthquake
    - Taunt
    - Dragon Dance

Now Taunt and Dragon Dance are staying where they are, its the other two moves im having difficulty choosing.

Waterfall gets STAB and Earthquake gives it coverage, however i get walled by most dragons.

If i put Ice fang and Earthquake i kill Dragons but i loose a STAB move and get walled by Bronzong.

and even if i go outside the box and put Stone Edge and Earthquake which have great coverage, i still loose a STAB move and get walled Bronzong and Claydol aswel.

I really need peoples help and Opinions,

    Thanks.

Well Dark, No Ice Fang means Leafeon/Tangrowth/Salamence or even Venusaur is gonna mock Gyarados :)

I made the EXACT SAME THREAD 2 months ago. In the end, I kept your set. Because, after a few Dragon Dances, Waterfall could wipe out many threats. Including those resistent to both moves-namely grass types & Skarmory. All of his moves can be walled by Zong, so...

well regardless of having ice fang + earthquake, bronzong will wall you, but with taunt, it won't hurt you at all (unless it's a weird one that has charge beam). it will explode in your face if you taunt it. harsh reality.

    i like waterfall nonetheless.

Hm Then how about Ice Fang and Earthquake?

    Here's the thing:

    Ice Fang
    65 Base Power + DD

    Waterfall
    80 + STAB=120 + DD

See what I mean? The power drop might not be worth it.

    Hmmm perhaps

Tell you what, when a Tangrowth comes out and mocks me, I'm gonna blame you =P (Jk lol)

And there is his dilema. Coverage, or raw Power. Luckily, they aren't breeding moves. He can always try one. If it doesn't work out, it's not hard to try another via HM or Heart Scale.

I think i might just give it Ice Fang and Earthquake and see how it goes like sims said, i know it will lack power and STAB, but i think ill make that up with Dragon Dace. I can always switch out if i get walled....

Well thanks for helping me decide everyone.

I went with Waterfall, power. If it doesn't work, he (mine is a girl) can always switch moves later.

Waterfall+Stone Edge is much better. I think only Empoleon walls this, and you don't see Empoleon as much as Gyarados.

No. ALL Steels wall that. Except Skar, & Steelix. Hell, Steelix too. And Electrivire would laugh.

    Hm. Tangrowth.

I say keep the set. Waterfall gets STAB anyway, and Gyarados won't be the only Pokemon in your team. There will be another sweeper or special sweeper. So in my opinion, just keep the set.

Waterfall + Stone Edge is cool. Empoleon, Poliwrath, Quagsire, Dialga, Breloom, and probably something else that I'm forgetting.

Waterfall + Return is resisted by Shedinja, Empoleon, Dialga and Giratina.

Waterfall + Earthquake is resisted by pure grass types, other Gyarados all the Dragon Flying. And there are even other resistors, so don't use this.

And Electivire doesn't laught at DDed Waterfall. No ****ing way.

    Edit:

    Calculations made-

    Defender HP: 292
    Move Damage: 292 - 344
    Damage: 100.00% - 117.81%

That's the damage from a DDed Waterfall from Gyarados on Electivire. Gyarados has maxed atk in this calculation :x Electivire has 4HP evs.

So Electivire isn't going to be switching in.

Return is obsolete on Gya in this gen. What you're saying is, ALL of his combinations are bad, which is not the case. EVERY STEEL TYPE, except for Skarmory, will wall Gya without Earthquake. Vire will wipe out Gya before he gets to charge up.

With enough Dragon Dances, Waterfall can eliminate most dragons, what with STAB. I speak from experience. I OHKO'ed a great deal of Salamence (and 1 Dragonite, to my surprise) with Waterfall after 3 DD. In fact, too many people advertise EQ, so it is not a bad combo at all. Gya is blocked by Brozong no matter what, so why bother with anything else? Its up to Azelf what he wants to hit.

Stone Edge has less PP and inaccuracy, but is more versatile.

Return? He has better things to do.

Earthquake leaves him resisted by Dragons & Grass. But the raw power of a Dragon Danced Waterfall should remedy this. Should.

Well then sims, if Gyarados is truly blocked by Bronzong, then think this, what the heck will Bronzong do to Gyarados then?
