I have access to the Eon Ticket! MUAHAHAHA!

Being an Australian, I never really knew about the Eon Ticket until years after the event was long over. It was also near impossible to find the e-Card since I never started searching for it until earlier this year and none of my friends had the Eon Ticket in their game.

A few weeks ago I discovered how to backup and restore saves in my GBA cartridges using my slot-1 flashcart. I never actually realised what I could do until 20 minutes ago. I restored an e-Reader save file containing the Eon Ticket, which I found on the internet, into my e-Reader and it worked!

I have yet to test if it will actually allow me to gain access to Southern Islands but I'm 99% sure it will work.

I'm so proud of myself. Thank god for the creation of flashcarts.

UPDATE: I tried to see if it worked or not but my results are currently inconclusive. I believe the DS Lite is missing some hardware that allows the data to be transferred. I plan on trying the next time I go to my friend's house. Help me confirm the issue here.

Well technically even though I did use a "cheating device" as you call it, the Lati@s I receive from the event still counts as legitimate.

Definition

All Pokémon can be divided into two groups, legal and illegal. The group of legitimate Pokémon is a subset of the group of legal Pokémon - that is, legitimate Pokémon are always legal, but legal Pokémon aren't always legitimate.

Legal (Valid) Pokémon are able to exist naturally in the game without the use of external devices.

Illegal Pokémon are not able to exist naturally in the game without the use of external devices.

Legitimate (Legit) Pokémon are created without the use of external devices. Because all of these Pokémon are also able to exist naturally in the game, legitimate Pokémon are a subset of legal Pokémon .

Although illegal Pokémon can only be created with the use of an external device (they simply cannot exist without the intervention of such a device), legal Pokémon can be created either naturally or through the intervention of an external device. Legitimate Pokémon, however, are always created naturally.

Because of the nature of these definitions, it is possible to check for the legality of the Pokémon, but impossible to check for legitimacy. Therefore, there is no objective way to tell whether a Pokémon is truly legitimate or not. Programs such as Legit Check and pAC can only check for legality, not legitimacy.

You can think of what I did as simply substituting the step of scanning the e-Card with replacing the save file of the e-Reader. ;)

But Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus are nearly always hacks, and if they were obtained from their in-game locations, then what does that mean?

I guess there is a chance I phrased my words incorrectly in my previous comment.

The Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus are all legitimate themselves if they haven't been modified. It's whether the event item was hacked or not that's taken into account. You really won't be able to tell the difference between a Pokemon that had its event unlocked properly and one unlocked by abnormal means.

I believe the Eon Ticket in my case still counts as being unhacked since I am not actually hacking the ticket into my save file. The transfer of the Eon Ticket to the R/S game is valid.

Well, since we are still going to have a chance at legit Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus, then they should be considered hacked if cheats are used to get to them. If cheats are used to get to the old events, I can see them as legit, because Nintendo screwed us over on them.

I believe unless the 4th Gen Events are obtained without hacks 100%, they are legit.
If you use a cheating device TO GET TO THE EVENT SITE ONLY in the 3rd Generation, I think it should be legit, because Nintendo screwed tons of people out of those rare events, and I'm not paying 50 or so dollars just to get Raikou, Entei, Lugia, Suicune, and Ho-oh. They need to give us these events again, or we need to consider that type of hacking legit.

Since when are Entei, Raikou and Suicune event Pokemon? You can easily gain access to them through Leaf Green and Fire Red.

I do believe I still have my Eon Ticket from that issue of Nintendo Power so long ago. If getting one is such a problem for you, I doubt that it would be so hard to find at some online store, or even to find a save file that already has the Eon Ticket loaded into it. Oh, but if you believe simply obtaining an event ticket is the best one can do with Save backup ability, ...then you have some surprises ahead of you.

Mence Master: By that logic, it should also be legitimate to hack the Member Pass, Oak's Letter, and Azure Flute into Diamond and Pearl cartridges since Nintendo has clearly moved on to Platinum for events.

If you count that as legit, would you count downloading a ROM of an event distribution cart, and using that to obtain event Pokémon, as legit?

Or even buying a new copy of Ruby/Sapphire, hacking the Eon Ticket onto that, then mixing records to transfer it onto your main game? You're not hacking the ticket directly onto your save file, and the transfer of your ticket is still valid...

That's no different from hacking it onto the e-Reader's save file and transferring it.
