I need a tutor :(

I have a difficult request to make:
Would someone here please teach me how to battle respectably?
Before I get bashed with 'use google' or 'this isnt the place for this' (sorry if it's not; I couldn't find anywhere else to post it), I want to say that I do not and will not use smogon.
Reasons being that they outright ban legitimate moves, abilities, etc. that are made into the game thus closing many options, and rank half the pokemon in existance in their 'PU' tier, which I find sickening.... Now that that's out of the way, I also want to say that I HAVE Googled numerous guides on this, and learned absolutely nothing about HOW to battle. I need a living person to show me the ropes.
My resources include a stat calculator, a smartphone app that tells me everything about a specific pokemon, several folders worth of .PDF files on the game. I'm endgame with all items and all pokemon(shinycharm included), I know how to breed and I can breed basically anything with 5-6Vs, nature, moves, etc. but I don't know what setups I should use, what pokemon I should have on a team, or what moves I should use and when.
I've been searching google for forums and reddits (which was met with utter rudeness btw) and so far I haven't found a single person who'll help me. I've been on Showdown! and that didn't really help me either. The reason I ask for this help is that I have friends IRL who play pokemon, and I really want to be able to actually DO things with them. The issue is that they are ridiculously experienced whereas I've only fought 6 battles (lost all but one btw, which was their forfeit at the start), one of them being with one of my friends. I can't ask them to teach me, either. Why would they help train the enemy...?

Anyways, if anyone can help PLEASE contact me ASAP. Sorry for the giant wall of text; I tried to space it out and make it easier to read :/ And thanks for reading it to begin with.

I see. Well this thread has had 87 views now and nobody has even bothered to reply to it, so I guess I won't be finding any help here... Feel free to delete this thread.

I know you don't like Smogon and stuff like that but Pokemonshowdown would be a good starting ground for getting used to popular pokemon. It sounds stupid but just keep playing. If you see a pokemon, quickly type it's name to Bulbapedia or something. Find out it's weaknesses, abilities all that good stuff.

I'm probably not being helpful :( But you just have to keep playing and keep playing and you'll get better.

Something to be aware of is that we don't have a large battling community, let alone people who have the skill and knowledge (and the time) required to effectively tutor someone. Don't be like "oh no ones gonna help" because there wasn't a reply immediately.

Since you're new to battling it seems, you're first going to have to choose which primary meta you want to focus on, with the 3 main ones being Smogon, VGC, and Battle Spot. They all of have different rules and formats and such, which means some stuff that works in one may not work in the others.

You can learn a fair bit about battling just by simply battling (as you'll start to see the common meta trends and stuff).....and I mean a lot. It's going to take time lemme tell you. However sometimes just battling isn't enough; feedback is often needed to really improve. So go onto PC's battle server and try to get some battles with people, and more importantly, ask for advice/feedback/etc from your opponent after the battle. We have a replay critique thread you can use as well. You can make a RMT thread (aka a Rate My Team or Team Help thread) to help make your team(s) better. It's not tutoring but it's the next best thing.

I would also recommend asking your friends for help. They might be you're opponents, but I'd think that they'd be willing to help you with this since, y'know, they're your friends.

I also highly disagree with your reasons for not liking Smorgen but that's not what this is about so whatever

If you're gonna play in-game, be sure to breed for IV's and natures. EV training is important too.
For moves, you want powerful moves, but without too many drawbacks. It is great if a move has 150 power, but if it has 50% accuracy and has to recharge it isn't worth it. Some of the best moves are in the 80-100 power range, as there are a lot of moves in that range that are powerful without drawbacks.

Be sure to use only pysical or only special moves if you can, so you can focus on 1 stat instead of 2.
If you are unsure whether to use physical or special moves consider the base stats of the pokemon.

Take bulbasaur for example, which has an attack of 49, and a special attack of 65, so you would want to use special moves.

The last part isn't entirely true. Some Pokemon have similar attacking stats to each other, allowing it to go mixed. An example is Infernape. Despite being primarily a special attacker, Therian Tornadus sometimes uses Superpower for a harder hit on Chansey. Knock Off is also a common coverage attack for utility.

Of course you can go mixed, but that means you need to focus on both Atk. and SpA, EV's that you could otherwise put on defense or speed.

You don't focus all your EVs on both offenses. For glass cannon mixed attackers, max Speed is used while some EVs are allocated to allow a specific move to KO a specific threat.

You should look into playing VGC doubles, which is the official meta that GF and TPCi support for their tournament series and is specifically meant to be played on the cartridge, not on sims. The best site to find information about it is https://nuggetbridge.com/
