I think Giovanni's gotten a little old...

    I know there's been a lot of discussion about whether Ash should remain in the show or not, but I've been mostly thinking about Giovanni. He's lost his "Scary and Mysterious" appeal from the First Season.

    I think it's about time that the Mask of Ice takes over Team Rocket. Renew the mystery of Team Rocket!
     
    I thought that The Mask of Ice was fighting against Team Rocket and either way he's a Manga based character.
    Seeing as Pryce has already been in the show, and he didn't seem very evil, it just wouldn't work.

    I do agree that Giovanni has lost his evil ways though. Maybe they could put him in a future movie... you know? Just to show that he's not quite finished yet...
     
    I agree with the guy above Giovanni should be in one of the movie schedualed to come out for dp to show that he is still the nuber one bad guy in all of team rocket
     
    I don't think the show's given much of Sakaki's character away anyway. It seems the writers have been intentionally vague about anything he does. I guess the last time we saw him do anything major was in the Mewtwo special.

    weve heard about him indirectly. in meowth's stupid ideas. wat i thnk has gotten old is jessie james and meowth. they need to either be gotten rid of OR made into a diferent part of the stry. team rocket is a major and dangerous organziation. jessie james and meowth kind of are jst plot devices to give them ideas for episodes. if they made a movie or a set of episodes where giovanni really makes a huge move or somtin that would be good

    Why do you worry about an orginazation that doesn't have anything to do outside of Kanto and Johto? We're in Sinnoh now, there's no point for the writers to include the Mask of Ice or have Team Rocket as a significant conflict. That's what we have Team Galactic in Sinnoh, Team Magma and Team Aqau in Hoenn, and when we get to the next region, it will most likely be that region's team as well.
     
    The reason I still insist on Giovanni coming back, despite him being irrelevant to Sinnoh and how crazy bring ____ back fans are, is that he was built up to be this powerful man that had great influence. Unfortunately, he rarely actually did anything besides the Mewtwo ordeal, which means he is kind of reduced to the status of the GS Ball. I don't find him "old" as in "worn out character wise" because of his lack of screentime. Hopefully he will have some epic plot ready to deal with at the end of the series, or even at the end of D/P (that Rayquaza must count for something).
     
    Well yeah, I guess that's why Sakaki's had a much lower profile as of late. It's not even a prerequisite to have a boss fantasy from Nyarth anymore.
     
    Indeed, for my point of view Giovanni/Sakaki's presence in the anime is (almost) non-existent. I'm sure he'll popup in one of those Meowth fantasies at best or perhaps when Ash is back in Pallet Town in the end of Shinou, because at that time J&J&M will go back to Team Rocket HQ.

    Giovanni didn't became old, the writers don't focus on him anymore which means he won't be doing much. Which is too pity. As proven in the first movie and the Mewtwo OVA, Giovanni is a sinister person. It's a waste that Ash and co never had a real showdown in the anime series back in Kanto.

    Err... doesn't thar St. Anne conspiracy count as having him being Sinister, though?

    On topic, while it's unlikely, maybe they could make him appear again (Hey, JJM got an assignment from Saturn, and had Cassidy and Butch appear [in fact, I think that was the first time they appeared in a region other than Kanto since, what, the Johto season?].). And heck, maybe, just to show his true evil nature, if JJM succeeds in capturing Pikachu, Giovanni will tell some of his men to execute JJM, telling them they are no longer of any use to him, and maybe even attempt to also kill Pikachu.

    Now, note, this is only a theory, which does have a less likely chance of happening, but still...

    Glad someone else didn't forget about the St. Anne. Heh.

    It's a kid's show, and God knows, there are a lot of fanfics that have written your idea. Is it in him? The anime version? Yes. Will he? Who knows? Personally, I like the Special version most, but the anime gave him a good backstory. However, Mewtwo isn't returning, so there's no reason to revisit it. Besides, it's 10 years old, so have to move on, right?

    I just think they don't know how to write an evil canon character. Heck, even Archie or Aogiri was turned an over-the-top cartoon supervillain. Which gives me little hope for Cyrus.

    J, well, she's another story, since she isn't a game canon character.

    actually in Hoenn, apparently team magma, and aqua are branches of team rocket D:
    i remember in one of the first episodes of the hoenn season giovanni was saying something about the two branches of team rocket so he could be referencing them.
    and Giovanni i don't think is getting old, its "Team Rocket" as in Jessie, James and Meowth, they've been old news since the end of the first season like others have said, the "big" team rocket will probably be doing something big, like a race against galactic for the legendary pokemon of sinnoh.

    This reminds me of the good old days of the Pokemon anime. *sigh. I think the anime's a joke now and Giovanni losing his whole mysterious/intimidating persona seems to be one of the contributing factors. They really need to make him more evil again. Seriously, I miss the old TR.
     
    I find it hard to classify Giovanni as getting "a little old" when I find him to be an intensely vague villain at best and we haven't seen much of him. Sure, he has involvement of merit in Team Rocket and he enjoys the prospect of quite a role in the Johto Mewtwo special. But I don't think we see enough of Giovanni to say that he's become wear and tear and banal - if anything else, I sort of wish we saw more of Team Rocket's more sinister side and that Giovanni would be the openly shown catalyst for such.

    Maybe Giovanni is one of many Team Rocket leaders and other syndicate figureheads out there. And the leader of all of them is probably (and hopefully) the most serious, darkest, and evilest force out there, next to Darkrai(the real Darkrai) to give Ash a serious run for his money.
