4th Gen I want to start playing D/P but i need help

Do you really need to know? Seriously, can't you just find out when you get to the gym ingame?

2: Grass
3: Fighting
4: Water
5: Ghost
6: Steel
7: Ice
8: Lightning
 
Get a Shinx and raise it at the beginning of the game and evolve it. My Luxray was very helpful during the E4. Bidoofs make good HM slaves. xD And I caught a Starly and evolved it.

You're going to have a tough time with the first gym if you choose Chimchar ("the monkey"). Even though you want Chimchar, I'd go with Piplup. You can get a Chimchar shortly in to the game through trades.
 
so ur sayin go with the pulpip or whatevrer.. sorry spelling.. and than trade for chimchar on like where.. wifi u mean?
 
Heck, I can GIVE you a Chimchar. I have like...a box full. xD

But yes, I would go with Piplup as your starter. But different people have different opinions.

I would suggest Pearl. It's because of the legendary Palkia. Now diamond has the legendary Dialga, but I wouldn't go with it. To make things clear, I'll compare them.

Dialga has Metal Claw that does 50 damage. Palkia has Water Pulse that does 60 damage. Dialga has Roar of time, a move that does 150 damage but needs a recharge. Palkia knows Spacial Rend that does 150 damage, has a high critical hit ratio, and doesn't need a recharge. Palkia knows Aqua Jet that does 80 damage. Dialga knows Flash Cannon that does 70 damage. Go with Pearl to get Palkia. As you can see, It's better.

Also, Pearl has Bonsly and Sudowoodo as Pokemon, and Diamond has Mr. Mime and Mime Jr.

Heck with it, get Pearl.

Yeah, this is starting to get a little ridiculous. He wants us to tell him everything about the game, but he doesn't feel like reading to look it up.

Pearl and Diamond have the same gyms, and if you want to know what type they are, ask the guy in the front of the statue in the gym, He'll tell you. The games are about the experience of playing, not predetermining a strategy and beating it to beat it... It allows you to go on an adventure and experience a world of Pokemon! Either game is good because they're the same game except for about 7 pokemon that you have to trade the other version for. the fun of the game is playing it for yourself!
 
Okay, this thread is a bit spammy. Normally, I would say you don't need help at all to play Pokémon, it's one of the easiest game franchises ever, and you shouldn't be asking for advice for every game you play either.

Anyway, if you want advice, you can ask in an organized way (not like "i dont know anything bout the NEW ass pokemon soo pretty much like.. yeah im old school lol.. soo i need desperate help", because this last message said nothing really) or you can avoid asking for starters, for example, if you won't change your decision even when hearing other people's points. And cut down your language a bit, too.
 
well i personally got 2pokemon diamond and 2 pokemon pearls games on my r4 and i prefer diamond maybe the colour? and i also prefer dialga whois blue but just flip a coin or ask sum1 2 pick
btw the fire monkey is chimchar who evolves into monferno and then infernape its good because there is like 3 fire types in the sinnoh dex
