The Void
Just to build on the idea of Void typing, there is some foundation for it in the games. Darkrai is very much a void pokemon, his signature move IS Dark Void, an 80% sleep move. Spiritomb, though he already posseses two types, is a void pokemon as well, as are many of the Ghosts. Giratina, a Ghost/Dragon could also be considered a void pokemon.
Here's what I have come up with for the Void Type:
THE VOID
All the pokemon of the Void are interconnected through the spirit world to one another; they are seperate beings, yet are all apart of a bigger thing. They are beings of mystery and are enigmas. Here are some insights into the void:
======
Offensively
======
GREEN = Super Effective
BLACK = Neutral
RED = Not Very Effective
Bug
Dark
Dragon
Electric
Fighting [The bravery of Fighting types make them less susceptible to the Void]
Fire [The light of Fire makes Void type attacks less powerful against them.]
Flying
Ghost [Ghost types are drawn into the Void.]
Grass
Ice
Normal [Normal Types are enveloped whole by the Void.]
Poison
Psychic [Psychic Types are devoured by the Void.]
Rock
Steel [The iron defense is too much for the Void to envelope.]
Void [The Void is drawn to itself.
Water
Offensive Overview
The Void's defensive aspect is what really sets it apart from Dark and Ghost types, though even in the Offensive aspect, there is an obvious difference. The Void has some useful offensive advantages, though its offensive success depends on the tier it is in.
UU
In UU, there is a great abundance of Fire types, meaning that until they are cleared from the field, Void pokemon can't utilize their STAB. However, there aren't nearly as many Fighting or Steel. types that are seen frequently as there are in OU, and Void pokemon can use Psychic or HP Fire attacks to deal with them respectively. In UU, Void can do a great job as a damage source, getting perfect coverage with a Void Attack, Psychic, and Hidden Power Fire.
OU
In the OU metagame, the Void attack typing is absolute trash. It gets some useful super effectives on things such as Blissey and other normal types, as well as getting super effectives on both Psychic and Ghost types, and unlike Dark and Ghost types, it get neutral damage on Dark pokemon. However, on Steel, Fire, and Fighting types, types that are so common to the metagame, it deals reduced damage. This means top tier threats such as Lucario (4x resistence) and Scizor (2x resistence) get to come in and setup a sweep.
Ubers
It is in Ubers where void really shines as there are VERY few pokemon in the tier that resist its STAB. The one uber Fire, Ho-oh, is never seen, there is no Uber fighting except for Arceus holding a Fist Plate, and the only commonly seen Steel in Ubers is Dialga, and occasionally Metagross who takes neutral damage. Void as offensive typing is great to have, particularly as STAB, and is something to be feared.

Defensive Overview
Sporting two immunities to popular attack types and 5 resistences, the Void type is a primarily defensive type, for good reason. It resists 2/3 things that resist it, and, while it has 3 weaknesses, the dual immunities more than make up for it. A Void type with good base defense stats is a force to be reckoned with in any tier.
UU
The abundance of Fire types in UU is what really hurts Void pokemon defensively, though with an instant recovery move that nearly all Void pokemon have access to (Devour), bulky Void pokemon can generally Stall them out. With so many resistences and immunities, the Void pokemon are great at causing switches, so prediction is key in using them in UU.
OU
In OU there are less Fire types, though still a fair amount, and more common electric types (the Rotom appliances, Jolteon, Zapdos, ETC.). Though it can be unlikely for an OU team to have both Fire & Electric types, Void pokemon don't like to come up against either. Once these are clear, and opposing Void pokemon are cleared, it is safe to bring out your Void pokemon and wall pretty much every threat common to the metagame, resisting all of Lucario and Scizor and Metagross' STABs, and many other top OU threats.
Ubers
Again, in Ubers the use of Fire attacks is not seen very often, and there are no STAB fire attacks besides the very rare Ho-oh, who Voids would not stay in against regardless. Voids don't like the abundance of Thunder in Ubers due to Kyogre, but once Kyogre is safely eliminated and other Voids are as well, Voids will have a resistence to pretty much every common attack in Ubers except Dragon Attacks.

Last Thoughts
============
The Void focuses on dealing damage and screwing with the enemy lineup. Every single one of its attacks has some chance to have an additional status effect, which is why the attacks have lower damage then other types. The abilities like Mourn and Devour can screw up entire teams, as Mourn is unavoidable and unresisted paralysis, and Devour steals health. Because of their great defensive typing and the fact that all their damaging attacks have secondary effects with high chances to Proc makes Void great for Stall, though due to having a very even Physical/Special Split, they can be used to great success on UU, OU, and particularly Ubers offensive teams.

That's all!
