Suggestion: Increase Character Count in Posts?

Hey, I'm working on this longish post, which I'm probably about a third of the way through now. Anyway, I've been previewing it on and off and saving the text in Notepad, but recently I tried to preview this post and said it was a problem because there was over 50,000 characters. Is there any way of bypassing this, or changing the character limit in posts? And is there a reason for this character limit (aside from the obvious page loading)? Maybe make only the first post able to have more characters or something? I don't know. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The only forum I can imagine you going over the limit would be the Fan Fiction and Writing forum so if it isn't in it or one of the sub-forums, I'm really curious about what you're doing. It's generally acceptable to post extra content in a second post immediately after (an exception to the double posting rule) as long as the content is entirely relevant.

It's in the Pokémon Roleplay forum actually, that's the main problem. Because the posts have to be approved, I'm afraid that if I posted it then somebody else might post in the thread before I get a chance to include more.

Either way, it's not really a problem and I probably won't be posting the roleplay until like December or something due to school starting in February, but it's just irritating not being able to preview my post in full. Not a really bad problem, but if it's not a hassle I don't see any reason why the character limit can't be increased.

Wait, you won't be posting in it until December? Uhm, well, unless people post in it, the thread will be dead. Then, you sort of can't revive it.

You're starting your own RP, or posting in an existing one? If you're starting your own, and need two posts to cover everything, that might be okay.

Also, regardless of which of those it is, if you have both parts written, and post them both real quickly.. then I doubt anyone will manage to post inbetween them. o.o

Well, that'd be ok in a normal thread. When the thread has to be approved, he might not be on when it is approved. Then, somebody else who is on, could be interested or whatever, and post.

A workaround would be to include a note telling no one to respond until the author gets home and posts the rest of it.

Or PM the rest of the post to the moderator of the forum and kindly ask for them to post the remainder of the initial post when they approve the thread.

Those are probably the best/only solutions. The moderator one would probably be best, but only if you let them know before hand.

You know, if you have question involving my section you might want to try asking me. You know, just as a thought? ;D

As for your issue, by post I assume you mean a thread submission? Well, my first suggestion would be to see if there's redundant text you can par out of it to make it fit one openining post. Detailed plot is all well and good, but 50 000 characters should be plenty of room to work with.

Is your own profile included in that post? If it is, it might be a good idea to leave that out and post it separately in the thread since it's not information necessary for anyone else at the moment.

If neither works and part of the actual plot gets left out then PM the rest of it to me and leave a note in the thread (a big, bold all caps note) telling people not to post until you've gotten to add in the rest. Consecutive posting is allowed if you concretely can't fit it all in one because of the character limit.

Again, I would consider trying to downsize it to meet the limit though. Might be a bit...intimidating for potential RP members otherwise.

It's the initial post in the thread, so it will be new. But thanks for the reply.

It's not so much the people posting in between, it's just previewing the post I've done so far and having to separate things is a minor hassle, and only the admins can increase the maximum character count (or at least that what I'm assuming, I don't think regular mods can do that stuff right?). It's not a problem that needs to be fixed, but if it's easily fixed then why not do it?

Most of the information is in spoilers, but by the time it's done it will be well over 50,000 characters. I'd say text-wise I'm about halfway through it. My own profile isn't included in that, I'm hoping to keep profiles to being posted in the OOC thread.

Most of it is side-information in spoilers which is relevant but not essential, sort of like area descriptions and that stuff, but yeah I don't see any way of downsizing it unfortunately.

Haha yeah I have one of those right now at the bottom going "ALTER EGO DON'T ACCEPT THIS I'M JUST PROCRASTINATING AND DON'T MEAN FOR THIS TO BE POSTED YET!" or something like that XD

Thanks for the replies guys, the issue isn't really people posting in between a separated "first post" but just it being annoying having to split the post up in order to preview it and stuff, and that it's probably easy to fix. But eh, I can live with it :D

    Thanks again.
