My Pokémon craze came back to me since January.
And talking to people how Silver is the best pokémon game out there, made me wanna boot up my cartridge and waste hours on it, only to find out it's saveless. As well for my boyfriend's Gold AND Silver copy. And same goes with many people it seems, and even used game.

Yet, Red/Blue/Yellow is still kicking proudly. Fnck up.
Is the battery dead for you guys too?

The question has been buzzing around my head for the past month.

I'd rather just save money for a DS (unless you already have one) and Platinum, when it comes out later this year. Gold, Silver, and Crystal serve no further purpose. In fact, all we're missing from those games is the Apricorn Balls. That's it. And at least two of them have been replaced by more modern versions, such as the Friend Ball being replaced by the Luxury Ball.

There was an issue with early versions of silver, they're internal batteries die.

You just have to write to Nintendo, and send them the cartaridge aswell.
they should repair it, and send it back in no time :)

my silver is goin fine. yellows goin fine 2 but red looks a bit tired :(

my red and blue work fine and gold kicked the bucket a while back

    I didn't know I died...

No, they're not 'dead'. A lot of people still play them...like me.

    Same with the oldies.

SilverSmeargleSplatter: I think she means has the internal battery died. Not that no-one rarely plays it anymore.

Anyway, I gave my silver to my friend and my brother gave his gold to his friend XD. I think silver stopped working though, not sure about gold. Crystal (which I still own and am playing it right now.) still works :D

Ah, gotcha. And you can just call me Silver. ;D

On that subject, m GSC games are in perfect working order. But, my brother's Gold won't save...so some of them out there still work, some don't.

wow, I never heard of this happening, and I don't even know the last time I turned on my silver....I say 4 years ...maybe 5!!! I should probably see how its do'n i guess.

i love it but havent played it in years!

My Gold has gone and that was my favourite game ever!:( This is why it is vital for a G/S remake, 'cus they are dead and everyone knows it!:(

Gold, Silver and Crystal, trapped in time...

    We never planned for this!:(

EDIT: If somebody knows where I can get my Gold repaired, either PM me or post it here!

Silver, Gold and Crystal all use batteries for the internal clock, if that dies, the game save tends to as well.
Now, batteries die after time, no more can be said about them. They are some form of button battery, similar to those you can find in watches. Said batteries can be replaced in the game cartridge, though I don't know where/how to get the specific ones used by the second-generation games, and I've heard there's soldering involved.
Moving on: Red, Blue, Yellow etc. don't have this problem since they don't have a real-world time.

Lastly, Crystal is actually the best. :P
