Most underestimated pokemon: Pachirisu, Piplup or Croagunk (not evolved of course!)

Personally these are three of my favorite Pokemon and as a result three of my most used Pokemon. It's difficult to make some of these guys battle ready, especially for online match-ups, but when you do it's so fulfilling! My current strongest Pokemon for online battles happens to be a Pachirisu and I must add that Grass Knot is an invaluable move for it. A special sweeping Pachirisu is difficult to maintain in battle due to it not having that high of a speed stat and it having very poor offensive stats so it can hardly ever kill something in one hit, but it's usually capable of out lasting at least 2 Pokemon. :)

PS: LOVE Bowser Jr., haha!

Welcome, Alex :D !
You sure love the unevolved, me too! So cute, usually ^-^

Lucky for TM's like grass knot, which have types that can be useful but are isolated to only one type. Stats will always be a barrier for the underestimated, but we'll overcome that :D

And thanks, I did put a lot of effort in my signature :3

Here's one of one of my favourite Pokemon sweeping, Corsola.

We should totally make a list of underestimated Pokemon and have a tournament.

Wow, that was fun to watch. Endeavour is a useful move, greatly paired with Focus Sash.

And we probably will make a list of pokemon, but let's wait until we have more members ^-^

What makes Pokemon underestimated are usually low base stats, bad moves and being unevolved, but I've found that Pokemon like Seedot can be deadly.

Totally doing the contest thing with Seedot.

Seedot? Hmm, never though about that... What kind of moves would you give it? :S

Welcome, Alex :D !

Thanks! :) The unevolved are usually very cute, most of my favourites seem to be unevolved - other than Gastrodon :3 Hehe, I can help out in compiling a list if you wish? ^^

Just thinking, Vaporeon's tournament idea really would be pretty good - it'd be great fun but it'd also help the group to kind of compose ideas for what moves to give the NU (and I assume some UU?) pokemon and what strategies to use. :)

So what's everyone's favourite pokemon?

That'd be great :D
But currently I'd like the group to focus on having a go at the Challenge :)

Oh, I used to be a pro NUer in 4th gen. Yanma, Dusclops, Sandshrew, Charizard, Slaking and Skuntank. Ah, such a team :)

So what's everyone's favourite pokemon?

If we're referring to underestimation, then Yanma, definitely. It's got two amazing abilities and it's a dragonfly!

--

Now, I'm starting the champion challenge on FireRed, and my list of Pokemon is going to be roughly this:

Yanma - I've said this enough
Mr Mime - this is underestimated in my eyes as people see it as a bad Alakazam. It is usually considered the worst looking Pokemon by many sites, but it harnesses a lot of TM's to transform into an above average battler.
Pikachu - Everyone refers to Pikachu as the Pokemon Mascot, and it is very well known. But on the battlefield it is rather lackluster, if you ask me. So, I'm trying to bring Pikachu some popularity on the battle side as well as off.
Dunsparce - ...I don't think this needs convincing

I'll make a professional post later. I'm at my Nonnas house with very bad internet, so I'll focus on the challenge for now.

Most underestimated Pokemon: There are several, but I have a sweet spot for Miltank. It can learn some really strong moves and it's hidden abilities are very strong, just some people can't see past her Milk Drink ability and the fact she's a normal type.

What makes a Pokemon underestimated: The fact that people are only looking for specific abilities within a type and can't look past that fact.

Sadly don't have vids to prove Miltank's strength, since I haven't played past Gold and Silver on the GBA.

*Wondering how I could've possibly missed the whole massive thread about challenges every time visiting the thread o.o*

Ohhh gosh, that's annoying! On my current save on diamond I've been using Pachirisu, Croagunk, Piplup, Swablu, Anorith and Roselia for the whole game, most of which are underrated in my opinion, but found Volkner hard so evolved them all at once a couple days ago D: Was debating whether or not to evolve them for ages, really wish I hadn't now! Still using Pachirisu though, so I guess that's one. X3

I'm afraid I have terrible internet, so I won't do much updating over the next few days. Just my challenge, if I managed to stay online for that long.

@AlexOzzyCake: Oh no, you couldn't done half the challenge without even knowing D:
But if you manage to get Pachirisu to level 100 you can still beat the Underestimated, Overlevelled Challenge :3

Another Miltank lover, awesome!

now I'm going to try my first update of my Challenge, just to see how the CSS fairs

Update 1: Underestimated Champion Challenge

Well, here's my first (and the first) update of someone partaking in a challenge. The challenge I am doing is the Underestimated Champions Challenges in Pokemon Fire Red. To begin, I want to disclose my predetermined underestimated Pokemon, so others know what team I hope to achieve, and why I think they are portrayed as underestimated.

My future team as Champion will consist of Dunsparce, Mr. Mime, Pikachu and Yanma. I believe these Pokemon are perfect candidates full of hidden potential that people glance over. Perfect for a Champion. Dunsparce is pretty self-explanatory, and the land snake is bottom of the food chain. Mr. Mime is underestimated in my eyes, and is shadowed by Alakazam. Even though it can learn a number of TM's and respectable moves, it can't get out of that shadow. Pikachu is probably the most well known Pokemon, being the mascot of the series. Unfortunately, it is not that familiar in the battleground, with measly stats and the moves of an electric mouse it's not hard to see why. So, let's change that. And lastly, my personal favourite, Yanma. This little Dragonfly is would sooner be sprayed with Mortein before being chosen as a battle partner, but I'll take the road less traveled by. With two awesome abilities and the appealing vision of a Dragonfly, it shouldn't be too hard.

So, now we have everything planned out, it's time I started my adventure. After a quick naming of me and my rival (Impo and Overuse, respectively), I ventured into the dark world that is Oak's Lab and received a Squirtle. After defeating Overuse, I quickly ditched my Squirtle for a much more suitable Yanma (hacked, caught in grass). Then the next Pokemon I caught was a Dunsparce (hacked, caught in grass). With wonderful progress, I disclosed my Squirtle to the back of my party and vigorously trained my two Underestimateds to level 10 by semi-consciously battling in Route 1. If it entertains you, Yanma and Dunsparce are named Yanmyst and Dunspecial, respectively.

After training to a level which I found suitable, I passed through the gates to the Viridian forest, preparing for some experience grappling battles. Not to mention, Viridian Forest is the first home-place to Pikachu, another Underestimated on my Team List. So, ten minutes of searching and a quick battering with Dunspecial resulted in me claiming Pikaptor the Pikachu. Twas a wonderful victory, watching that Pokeball dim shut. So, after completing three quarters of my team, I began to focus on leveling and progressing through Viridian Forest. The Bug Catchers made very nice fodder, as with the various wildlife of Route 2, I managed to raise my Pokemon all to level 15 before landing foot in Pewter City.

Now, a quick HP and PP refill at the PokeCenter and I'll be ready to battle Brock! But I have just realised my Pokemon only known moves of a Normal and Electric type origin. This'll be tough.

Yay! I think it worked, now onto the Brock >:D !

I think I might combine the Hall of Fame one with one of the Challenges in the Challenge Forum. Two birds with one stone :D

Great idea Vappy, go for it ^^ !
Oh, and everything update, up to the post I did before.

Update 2: Underestimated Champion Challenge

Well, fueled by the ambition to bring my Underestimateds some recognition, I enthusiastically entered the Pewter City Gym. After beating the Gym Trainer (light years my ***) I hoped up those stone steps to begin the treacherous battle to earn my Boulder Badge. Or so I thought.

VS Brock

Well, to begin, it was 3 v 2 battle, so I already had the upper hand. I started by sending out Dunsparce, leaving Yanma out for now. I didn't want Pikachu anywhere near Brock, for obvious reasons. The only attacking move my Dunsparce has is Rage, so I just spammed that as Brock's Geodude used Tackle. With every hit I recieved, I was increasing the attack I dealt with Rage. Not long after I had KO'd Geodude with half my HP to spare.

Dunsparce and Onix were together on the battlefield. Onix had a head start with my halvened HP, but thanks to my ever building Rage I wittled down the Onix to just over three quarters HP. Unfortunately, Dunsparce fainted after being hit by a vicious Rock Tomb. Luckily, I planned ahead and Dunsparce paralyzed Onix with a Glare. Delightfully Devillish.

So, now my cherised Yanma against an Onix that has roughly three quarters health and is paralyzed. Piece of cake. After four Quick Attacks Onix is finally one the red, with one hit away from defeat for Brock when Yanma was hit was a devestating Rock Tomb, landing it in the red in one solid attack. Not to worry though, as one steady Quick Attack brought the pebbly snake down, and I won the match.

That special victory had granted me a special little badge and TM 39, Rock Tomb. I left him to walllow in defeat as I left for Mt. Moon via Route 4. I was intercepted by Oak's Assistant and given Running Shoes. Neat. Thanks to them I excelled at beating all the trainers up to Mt. Moon, levelling my Pikachu to level 20. So, I placed Pikaptor at the back of my party, and focused on training Yanma and Dunsparce in the labrynth of Mt. Moon. After backtracking for many pitstops to recover my Pokemon, I surfaced out of Mt. Moon (with a new fossil I didn't bother looking at) and tutored my Pikachu with Mega Punch. I was just a little short of all level 20, so I grinded in the western parts of Route 4 until I reached my goal.

It was reached, and in a state of optimism I waltzed into the Pokemon Center, preparing to fight the Tomboyish Mermaid Misty! Get ready, Pikachu, this battle is yours!

Well, I had prepared this earlier and sent out my Pikachu against Misty's Staryu. The type advantage really helped, and two Thunder Shocks later I had knocked Staryu out will all my HP to spare.

I was surprised at this one, a relay of Water Pulses and Thunder Shocks and I ended up fainting first, with Starmie still on three quarters health. I wasn't expecting to go down that easily.

This one I really didn't see happening. That speedy Starmie hit with a Water Pulse and knocked away half my HP. Better yet, I was diagnosed with a confused status and hurt myself in my confusion. Then one more Water Pulse later and Dunsparce was down, without even dealing any damage. Oh well, I guess it was fodder.

Now, I sent out Yanma, expecting to lose quite quickly, but thanks to my speed I managed to give a Sonicboom to Starmie, giving it yellow health. I was met with a Water Pulse that sent my spiraling into the red zone immediately. Luckily, I wasn't ailed with Confusion and managed to KO Starmie with a rash Sonicboom. I won with 5 HP to spare, that was close.

That was a tough battle, and my efforts were congratulated with the TM Water Pulse and the Cascade Badge. I hurriedly left to go to the Pokemon Center, I wasn't letting that Tomboyish Mermaid near my Pokemon again. After I recovered from that trauma, I was quickly divulged into yet another battle when I tried to cross the Nugget Bridge. I don't know how I forgot that my rival would be waiting there, but I was thankful I had used the Pokemon Center.

Luckily I retained Pikachu in my pole position, and Overuse released Pidgeotto onto the battlefield first. Sucker, two Thunder Shocks later and it was limp, with Pikachu on full HP. Talk about De-Javu.

The final Pokemon of Overuse was his starter. I continued my usual Rage banter as Bulbasaur Poisoned and Leech Seeded me. One Vine Whip later I was down for the count, leaving my mark on Bulbasaur, who was now in the yellow zone.

Bulbasaur was weak, so I sent in Yanma to swiftly Sonicboom Bulbasaur out. Even though he lost, Overuse felt sorry for me always being behind him, and compensated me with a Fame Checker. Then after some wise words about Bill the PokeManiac he left me to travel the Nugget Bridge alone.

Unfortunately, I didn't level much during these two trainer battles, but I hope to catch Mr. Mime and level them all to level 25 before I face Lt. Surge.

I just want people to post in between my updates, is that too much to ask xD ?

And I think we could begin this list, per se, just everyone post icons of their most underestimated Pokemon and I'll make a formal list on the first post. Remember to include reasons.

Update 4: Underestimated Champion Challenge

After that pitiful battle with Overuse, I fought all 5 members of the Nugget Bridge and was rewarded with a prize. A nugget - did you see it coming? The man who gave me my gift also gave me the chance to join a prestigious group of ever escalating trainers - Team Rocket. I diligently refused their offer and in a fit of blind fury he subjected me to battle. It was an easy win, so luckily I didn't join his team. I then traveled around the grasses in Route 24 to locate an Abra. I found one, and it Teleported. Found another, and it Teleported. Found a third, and caught it. Third time's the charm, ay? I kept it in reserve and preceded to the PokeManiacs house. I found TM Attract along the way, and I avoided as many trainers as possible on Route 25.

I met a friendly Clefairy in Bill's House, and then Bill himself. Turns out he was a Clefairy, so I tried to hightail it out of there as soon as possible. He seemed friendly though, and he gave me an S.S. Anne ticket before I ran out the door. I traveled through a robbed house, meeting yet another Team Rocket member. Yet another easy battle later, I had defeated him and gained his TM Dig, from which he stole. Not bothering to return it to its rightful owner, I took the Underground Passage to Vermillion City and talked to the Chairman of the Pokemon Fanclub, who rewarded me with a Bike Voucher after his endless babbling. God, I love these free gifts. I then entered the S.S. Anne, ready to fight all trainers for some well need experience.

I feverishly battled all patrons of the S.S. Anne, gaining experience and new moves for my Pokemon to mess with. I encountered Overuse again outside the Captian's Quarters. He greeted me with a 'Boujour!' and bragged about how he had caught 40 Pokemon for his Pokedex. I have about 4. After that happy chat we preceded to battle.

Next Overuse sent out his newly evolved Raticate. I switched out Pikachu and replaced him with Dunsparce, hoping to try a new tactic with Defense Curl and Rollout. I Glared him into Paralysis, then I was Hyper Fanged. I then used Defense Curl while Raticate was incapable of movement. Rollout away! Just two rolls and out was Raticate.

Kadabra was sent in, and I thought it would make easy prey, but unfortunately it out-sped me and used Disable, successfully cutting my combo to an end. The following series of events was incredibly frustrating. I tried to Glare Kadabra, but I missed. I was hit with Confusion, then I missed again and hit with another Confusion, this time giving me the hated pseudo-status Confusion. I used Glare to Paralyze Kadabra and another Confusion later, I fainted. Kadabra's Synchronize ability also Paralyzed me, but since I was on death row I let Dunsparce handle more pain.

Ivysaur burst out onto the field, and then fell asleep thanks to Yanma's Hypnosis. Yanma has Compound Eyes, so all moves have an increased accuracy of 30%, making Hypnosis a viable move. I took advantage of the nullified opponent and Sonicboomed Ivysaur to red health. Ivysaur awoke and poisoned me before I finished it with Sonicboom. Battle won, what a team effort!

Winning is so fun. After the battle I walked into the Captain's Quarters to find the Captain hugging his trash can, apparently terribly sea sick. I rubbed his back for him and he seemed to feel better. He thanked me for his health and gave me the HM Cut! That was all I needed and I left the ship, which left the pier immediately after I stepped off. Maybe it was waiting for me to leave..?

Any who, I travelled through Diglett Cave and entered a home that was just outside the exit. Inside I found a very friendly Reylen who happily traded my Abra for his Mr. Mime. He had conveniently named it Mimien, but I would have preferred Mimsical. Oh well, I still managed to get my Mime. I traveled downwards and found another one of Oak's Scientists, who told me I need to catch 10 species of Pokemon for him to give me the HM Flash. I needed Flash later on in my journey, so now I agitatedly halted me journey in order to catch some easy bugs in the Viridian Forest. On the bright side, this could help train my Mr. Mime, who is only level 10, which is very behind compared to my other Pokemon.

Well, I entered the Viridian Forest and captured Weedle and Caterpie - 7 Pokemon. I entered Digletts Cave and caught a Diglett - 8 Pokemon. I caught a Pidgey on Route 4 - 9 Pokemon. And finally I bought a Magikarp off a salesmen in the Mt. Moon Pokecenter for 500 dollars - 10 Pokemon. I returned to the assistant and claimed my HM. And Mr. Mime is only level 11.

2 hours later and I have myself a level 25 Mr. Mime. I backtracked to all the trainers I missed and then foraged in the grass until I reached my goal. I'm outside Lt. Surges Gym and ready to kick butt.

I have to join this club right now. My top 6 favourite pokemon are underestimated
1. Spinda
2. Maractus
3. Mawille
4. Delibird
5. Corsola
6. Chatot

I swear these are my favourite pokemon. I agree that the list in the first post needs to be updated to include my favourites and alot more like Ditto, Butterfree, Beedrill, Ledian, Ariados, Dustox, Beatuifly, Swoobat and Furret. There are many more but the list right now is way to small. :p

I once used Sunflora on Pokemon Online (something which everyone should like totally download) and it did great in the sun.

Maybe you should get people to post some videos of underestimated Pokemon sweeping Impo.

Holy Crap that Sunflora wrecked! O.O I want one now...

I would love to participate in an event, but not sure how I don't have my Ruby Saphire games.
I'm still planning on building my Team Terrible, but after that amazing video I might replace Maractus with Sunflora... we'll have to see...
I think I will be attempting all of the challenges except for the Beauty one with my Team Terrible design.

Edit: Wait a minute... this is fishy... I looked up information for Sunflora. There is no way it can learn Earth Power. I looked all over the place... the only way it can learn Earth Power is if it was hacked...

Wrong. Sunflora can learn Eath Power with the Move Tutor in HeartGold and SoulSilver

Oh, you love underestimated Pokemon, that's great :D ! Welcome to the group!

Yes, the list is really small at the moment, I'm concentrating on the challenge now, so I haven't done much about it.

On a side note, does everyone like the name for the group of Pokemon on the first post?

Gorebyss isn't an underestimated pokemon is it? o.o I use them allll the time and they're great x3
Challenge wise Pachirisu is getting stronger by the day, he's up to about 70 now x3 My lil' cutie!! <3
That formatting help you offered Impo could be very useful if you don't mind?? :D

Hehe yesss, it suits them perfectly xD I think that Lopunny should be added because I've never seen anyone use that, yet it's perfectly viable for use... Plus Aipom because it's so cute! because before Gen IV gave it an evolution, it was only there to look adorable and give trees a purpose. :3

Update 5: Underestimated Champion Challenge

I quickly navigated through all the Gym Trainers and usually repetitive garbage switches to face Lt. Surge in combat. For someone with an intimidating name like Lt. Surge this was a surprisingly easy battle.

Okay, I sent out Mr. Mime here, just because I haven't battled with it much and wanted to see what it was capable of. Lt. Surge sent out a Voltorb, and I used Confusion. Sonic Boom in return and one Confusion later it was knocked unconscious.

Pikachu was next, and I kept Mr. Mime on the field. I used Substitute on a whim, which luckily intercepted an incoming Thunder Wave. Three turns later of Pikachu Quick Attacking me and it was down.

This was pitiful. Riachu repeatedly tried to paralyze me with Thunder Wave, but I still had a sub up. Riachu was down to red health and restored with a Super Potion. Luckily, my sub broke on the turn I KO'd Riachu, claiming me the Thunder Badge and TM Shock Wave.

With my third Gym Badge in tow, I traveled to Route 9 (adjacent Cerulean City) and battled all trainers in the vicinity. I healed up at the Route 10 Pokecenter and entered the Rock Tunnel. It was hell.

I had to backtrack with Escape Ropes three times to heal all my Pokemon before blacking out, and most of my Pokemon had ineffective moves against most of the common cave dwellers. Mr. Mime, the only Pokemon with a grass move (Magical Leaf) leveled up to 30, making it disobey me. Which was just what I needed.

Some how I made it through the agonizing levels and arose in Lavender Town. I battled the lingering trainers near the exit of the Rock Tunnel then healed at the PokeCenter, wondering what was to happen next. Lavender is a Gymless town, so I traveled down to Route 12 and battle all the Fishermen until that fat Snorlax blocked my way.

After trying to kick it for five minutes I had no choice to backtrack and continue via Route 8. Through the underground passage and I came to Celadon City. There were Team Rocket Grunts roaming the streets, but I just wanted to gamble. I entered the Game Corner and to my dismay I needed a Coin Case. There was a poster with information on it, but there was a Team Rocket grunt in the way, I politely asked him to move but he charged into a battle. One Raticate and a Zubat later I discovered a secret stairway, which was opened with the switch behind the poster. That makes sense.

I descended the stairs into Team Rockets hidden hideout and beat four floors of grunts, taking a Lift Key in the process and taking the elevator to Giovanni, the apparent Leader of Team Rocket. He was waiting leisurely on the couch, a nice position for me to battle him.

Okay, I sent out a Dunsparce to tango with his Onix. I started off with a Glare to Paralyze it, but Onix still managed to retaliate with a Rock Throw. I then Defense Curled into a little ball while Onix was Paralyzed. Then I unleashed my combo through Rollout. On my fourth Rollout Onix perished, and I still had most of my health and one last Rollout to instantly KO what comes out next.

As I predicted, Rollout was a OHKO on Rhyhorn, who fell faster than it got out of the Pokeball. It wasn't very effective, but it works wonders.

Dunsparce leveled to 35 and I switched out to Yanma, who faced a mean Kangashan. I quickly hypnotized the Kangashan and tried to Sonic Boom and Quick Attack it. The moves did little damage and the Kangashan quickly awoke and hit with a Mega Punch, landing me in the orange zone. I fervently switched out to Mr. Mime after I put Kangashan back to sleep with Hypnosis.

Mr. Mime ignored my order to attack, and Kangshan seemed to sense it. It woke up and delivered a critical Mega Punch to OHKO Mr. Mime. How rude.

I sent out Pikachu to Paralyze the Kangashan, who shrugged it off and sent me into the orange zone with a Mega Punch. Luckily, karma came back and I managed to KO it with a critical Thunderbolt. Sucked in.

Giovanni lest in a flash of blinding light, leaving a Silph Scope behind. Now this can grant me access to the Lavender Tower, but I am going to defeat Erika before traveling away from Celadon City. So I traveled to the Pokemon Center and then walked to the Gym, wondering why there was an old man perving through the windows.

I must admit, as I travel further through the game the difficulty is increasing. I guess that's why they call it a challenge.
