...but haven't got the time to play at the moment.

What have I got to look forward to?

How do these games interact with the GBA titles?

How will this help progress my DS National Dex?

Anything else I should know before I get started?

I know absolutely nothing about either game.

if you mean pokemon colosseum i can help you
i don't know the second game

You will be able trade between XD and the GBA games once you have finished the (good) story mode.
In the game, you will be able to catch Shadow Pokémon, most of them exclusive to Fire Red/Leaf Green, as well as some wild pokémon exclusive to Emerald, the Johto starters and, most important, the game exclusive Lugia.

About the game mechanics, you will be properly taught during the beggining, but I suggest you to play or, at least, know something about Colosseum, its prequel, to understand better the story and the Shadow Pokémon system.

hey!you stole my position out there!(just kidding lolz!!!)

if you get the eevee with not that much exp. and the teddiursa with little exp. ill trade event pokemon for them...:)

Not only that it will allow you access to more Pokémon like the legendary dogs.

Also, with XD, you'll get some Pokemon with good special moves, some which it can't get any other way (for instance, tri attacking Togepi, Extrasensory Zapdos, etc). Some are quite useful - maybe that's why he wants the Teddiursa. Although one does tend to use Eevee a fair bit - and you can evole him early as well. Jolteon, Umbeon or Espeon are the more useful ones I find - V-eon is a good wall but the best water move for ages is water gun (no HMs).

I'd advise playing Colosseum first, as it is the first one (XD is the sequal). Colo doesn't have as many Pokes, with that much 'special' moves, but is still fun and has a decent storyline (albeilt with plotholes).

It should help your dex immensly - a lot of Pokemon that are rare or not readily available. Also, all Johto Starters (one way or another), the legendary dogs/cats/beasts, and Ho-oh (although that's the hardest - best read a guide on that) from Colo, and from XD the 3 legendary birds (Zapdos, etc), and Lugia.

Any question, you can PM me (I know a fair bit about the two games...). Enjoy them. Oh, and there's one other thing you will be able to look forward to - a character called Miror B. :)

about miror.b.......you'll get excited in some points by his dance and......confused lolzz!although you can't make many teams as only 52 pokemon are available(ho-oh,pikachu,jirachi,celebi<those are in bonus disks).
    anyways......have fun and.......buy a gba-gcn cable......it will come handy

you can transfer pokemon from your leafgreen/firered/supphire/ruby/emerald to your pokemon colosseum and maybe gale of darkness
i think the bonus disk can only be connected with pokemon colosseum but if ''god''is an old game i think it would be useful for that game too.just try it out......

yeah now i get it........i will get used to the ''strange phrases'' here................

    Bonus disk?

Cheers everyone btw, so I can transfer new pokemon from both Col and GoD ?
Bonus disk - it's a extra disk that was available for purchase with Colo in Japan. It's mostly known for having a legit Celebii on it - but note that the disk is in Japanese... and are hard to come by.
Gale of Darkness is much more commonly known as XD for short - tha Gald of Darkness' part is just a minor part of the title.
Pokes can be transferred to and from Colo/XD/R/S/E/FR/LG, with a Gamboy Advance (and SP), and a Gamecube-GanboyAdvance link cable (GCN-GBA cable). Only after the main storyline is beaten however.

There was also an English Bonus Disc, that contained a WISHMKR Jirachi.
