Question: Just Something Small That I've Been Thinking About

Recently I've been thinking about the whole modship topic and I was wondering something.

When the higher staff are voting, do the candidates know about it?
Also, when the new mod is finally picked, do they become one instantly or is the member first asked if they'd like to be one?

Please don't think that this post has anything about me begging to become a mod, because it obviously doesn't.

Well I dunno about PC, but on our own forum at FFTogether, we asked if they wanted to be a mod. They asked me anyway.

So I'm sure that PC wouldn't force a mod down your throat if you didn't want to be one however.

I doubt they'll the let candidates know, I think the only way they would know is if a higher staff member told them (leaking).
And I'm sure they ask they just don't instantly promote you without consent. XD

Example is when Christos got modded; Scizz sent a PM asking if he(she? :P) wanted to moderate the Emulation forum.

When the higher staff are voting, do the candidates know about it?
Not usually. Though sometimes, they do interview members before voting (I don't know if they still do that ever, however). I was interviewed, at least, but that was back before staff admins existed and it was mostly done by Steve, Kwesi, and I assume the Super Moderators.
Also, when the new mod is finally picked, do they become one instantly or is the member first asked if they'd like to be one?
It is a choice, of course. You are not suddenly a mod or forced to become one. You don't log in one day and suddenly have all sorts of power. You log in one day with a PM from a staff member informing you of your potential modship.

Thanks, Shadow.

I know I can trust this information, seeing as you used to be a mod.

Ok, that's all I wanted to know. =)

Required disclaimer: I haven't been a moderator in years, so I cannot be certain that the system is the exact same now as it was then.

The candidates aren't told at all, you could have been brought for a position a million times, rejected each, and not know anything (I got considered for another forum before getting Other Trivia and I never knew until I got s-modded and read the modding thread).

And yeah, we ask members, via PM or IM, about if they want to get the position, we aren't forcing someone into modship XD

And there's the confirmation, thanks Went.

I know for a fact on other forums I'm a mod and when I was asked to become one, I was PMed. Because, if I just went to my profile to see the "Moderator" banner underneath my username, I'd be quite shocked.

And sometimes, you've got the think logic as well. Hahaha...:3 Like in the situation. For example, an admin wouldn't just say "Your a mod, that's that" because usually admins are the most maturest of the forum.

Hahah...

Are we allowed to ask? Because given how long I've been here I have become curious.

Leaking something that doesn't need to be kept private in the first place? Righto...

Personally, I'd say it's better not to ask, because if you ask and you actually haven't been a candidate...then you've basically just shot yourself in the foot. Something like that would probably count as "asking to be mod".

Even if a person has been up as a candidate, then it's still really none of their business, and the staffer who's asked probably shouldn't be giving out such information freely...

Heh.. I was made a moderator on Christmas a few months ago, and that basically happened to me. Though it wasn't in that case. I was in a group chat, much like they used to do, on MSN with higher staff. Prior to me being in that, I was told to get on by Erica, who sent me a visitor message on my profile saying that there was a group chat. Then about five minutes after changing my status from a member to a moderator, they linked me to something, which was in the staff section, and it came to be quite a surprise as I was completely oblivious to what they were saying as it was in regards to staff matters and I was all "Guuuuys, as much as I love to know these things, am I supposed to be here?". So, you don't exactly get a personal message everytime.

I don't understand the first paragraph at all... a simple question that stems from curiosity isn't asking anything more than some relatively simple information.

Since it is about whatever person, why shouldn't they be able to know?
