Lana Del Rey - West Coast radio mix

I like the original way better. It's slower and sexier and omg everything about Lana that I love. This just sounds like a more popish verison to please people who listen to the radio which seems to happen to all her songs...

Exactly my feelings. The risque and emotional tone of the song is lost almost 100%. She's trying to be turned into a singles dropper (or whatever people like Pitbull, Rihanna, and Katy Perry are labeled for frequent chart toppers) by transforming her otherwise "probably won't top the charts" songs into fake hits. It's disappointing, really. But at least the original was #1 on iTunes for a few minutes.

Yeah it really bums me out especially when someone tells you they're a lana fan and they have all the dubstep/party versions of her songs lol. I love her voice and how sensual she can make her music sound. I really wish more people enjoyed her original stuff or were at least given a chance to hear it on the radio instead of a million remixes/mashups/this weird pop mix lol

Actually now that I think about it they're pretty much dumbing down her music which is pretty sad.

Don't get me started. I saw a picture on tumblr that said, "I love Lana Del Rey's new song with Cedric Gervais, Summertime Sadness!" and literally wanted to vomit.

Oh god I knew how bad Summertime Sadness was due to its Cedric Gervais version being more popular... and as a result I barely heard the original version.

I heard the original version of West Coast and after hearing what was linked here, I agree it's pretty inferior to the one I've heard for quite a bit now. I feel like people are manipulating her songs just to give the impression of the major chart toppers. And I know how well a song can become bad in my opinion when it's given this sort of "poppy" treatment.

Still, I love her music. She's awesome, but not when her songs get remixes that end up more popular than the original. And from what I'm seeing from the comments on the Soundcloud page I know it's way inferior to the original.

Indeed it is.

It really is, because her music is being turned synthetic, at least the "mainstream versions." But in any case, hopefully the song will still do well because perhaps more people listening to her will have them realize her actual music is immensely worth the listen and she'll become more popular in the end. :D Not that I want everyone to start listening because I enjoy having her all to myself... :P

This makes me rather angry actually. I adore the original, and this is just disastrous to my ears... :(

I actually don't mind this radio edit too much! It's pleasant as a remix, and the differences between this and 'Summertime Sadness' with Cedric are really huge. Giving songs a bit more "oomph" for radio isn't as rare as you'd think, and is only a tad more extreme than chopping down the length of a song. A random other example of a Lana radio edit is 'Dark Paradise' (German single). It's pretty similar to 'West Coast' in nature (and very good).

I really love Lana, and 'West Coast' is an exceptional song in any form. I don't mind radio edits as long as they don't completely rework a song as in 'Summertime Sadness' and at the end of the day she sells a lot of albums, so people are hearing the songs as they're meant to be heard.

Her voice is so high on this edit though! Slightly offputting. And as has been said the increased pace really does take away from the sensuality of the original. But it has its other charms in place of that.
