It honeslty all up to you. If you like thrashing the gym leader with ease then congratulations - good for you. But if you wanted to beat the gym leader with skill and a challenge then unfourtunately you're gonna have try not level it up until you face the 8th gym leader at least.

Anyway, have fun with your game.

Sometimes I die with my starter and I'm done, so I'll try to train my other Pokemon

Thanks you too :)
Is it fully evolved or just at it's basic first form?
I suggest catching something like a staryl ro even better it's evolution staravia and train it to learn some pretty nifty flying type moves such as an example Wing Attack. Maylene can be a pain, escpecially with her lucario. Even my staravia had trouble with it.

Heh, sorry, just couldn't help myself.

Well, it's good to see that your starter is quite high leveled, just don't forget to level up the rest of your team, or at least another member of it!

I used to play Pokémon like that, sweeping everyone with my starter (and later my version legendary too) and when it was out of pp, I was screwed.
You know, if you just get a team of four Pokémon and train them all equally while fighting all trainers you come by, you're about good.

I know what you mean. In Gold, my brother spent a month grinding his Quilava to 22 before he even got his first badge.

The problem with grinding like that is when you get to the late game and your starter faints, the other 5 slots are just placeholders so you can revive it instead of putting up a fight with something else. It might be a good idea to get a few other types of Pokemon up to about 30 before you move on.

Good Job.Grinding can be really good, but it also sucks.
Example:
Starter Faints.
Sends out other.
Revives Starter.
Faints.
Repeat.
NO other Pokemon Left, Starter Almost Dead.
SERIOUSLY SCREWED.
Se what I mean?

:O My starter was only level 30 or so. But as other people have said, it depends really. If you want to crush gym leaders, by all means, grind. But if you want a challenge, then you're going to have to leave your starter alone for a while.

So it's a solo run? So what?!
Level 42 isn't high at all, cause you've got a long way to go till you get to the fourth gym... I'm suprised it's not in it's mid or late 50'!

I grind with all of my Pokemon. So I'm usually packing a full team of Pokemon around level 36-38 instead of one at 42. Still makes things easy.

I don't like plowing through a game with only one Pokemon, but I do like having at least a 4-5 level advantage over the local gym leader.

It's not really a bad thing as long as your Pokemon's moveset is capable of covering a good chunk of types and you've EV'd in stats so it's above average.

I'm doing this with Pidgeot in SS. Lv.43, just beat Morty. However, his moveset is far from diverse so I'm probably going to add Vaporeon as the second and last member.

Also, if you have Lucky Eggs, it makes things soooooo easy.

Hey I do that with all of my games and then transfer one high lv over if I need it for the E4.
