Call me old fashioned, but I despise this phrase now.

It's initial purpose isn't what bugs me, "laugh out loud" is something people generally do. What annoys me is the way people seem to constantly overuse it in their sentences. Things like,

"I went to school today, was boring lol. Forgot to do my homework lol, teacher went crazy, lol." etc

I mean, really? Did you really stop to laugh aloud when you realised your day was boring? Did you honestly 'laugh out loud' because you didn't have your homework.

Sorry if it feels I'm ranting (which, to be fair, I probably am :P), but I honestly cannot use that three letter word anymore.

Thanks for hearing me out, I guess ^^

Well, I don't abuse lol, but I do abuse 'XD' XD

I bet it annoys the hell out of some people that watch my posts, but eh...who cares? It's not like I walk around in real life saying 'EKSDEEE~' XD

As a veteran of that insane and crazy corner of the Internet which isn't allowed to be mentioned, I've come to use "lol" as a prefix to poking fun at or mocking something. It's just the natural mutation of the word while "rofl", "lmao" and text smilies like XD have taken the place of the original usage of the acronym.

I don't go loling when I type 'lol'. I only let out a short giggle.
I use the acronym only sometimes for it's right purpose.
I don't go 'lololol my friend got hit by a bus'.

lol, what's so wrong about saying "lol"? People have their different pet peeves but saying lol is not a sin to society so... lol.

    i've ALWAYS hated "lol"
if something is funny i just type "haha"

Whenever my posts are too short or if I have nothing to say on Facebook, I put lol or XD.

I remember once on FaceBook, that in every message, I wrote XD. No one was laughing.

    So I'm trying to stop.

I started to hate it once I ran into people who would respond to every sentence with it. When conversations started sounding like :
    "Oh hey what's up"
"Not much, just happy to be home from school."
    "lol"
    or
"I have a really big headache right now"
    "lol"

I got really annoyed at people who just used it to say nothing. I personally don't use it unless I'm trying to be sarcastic, but I'm definitely guilty of abusing "haha" as much as people use emoticons or "lol."

My way of expressing 'lol!' is via smilies, be they 'XD!' or the cruddy custom ones on MSN.

I get annoyed when 'lol' is used as a response to something... How is it supposed to continue the conversation? You don't say 'el oh el!' in real conversation and then stand there looking like a lemon, do you?

I'm a XD abuser. I only use "lol" as a sarcarcastic remark when one of my friends tells an horrible joke. Otherwise, I really think using "lol" is kind of... really ugly.

I only say lol when I'm "laughing" at a joke for the sake of laughing at it (ie. it's not funny).

When do you walk around in real life? "o_O"

I hate it when people abuse "Lol" and "Rofl" etc. It's fine when people actually find something funny, but when people say something like:

    "I'm watching TV lol"

    or

    "I'm going to school, rofl"

I find it annoying. You have a stupid sense of humour if you suddenly start "laughing out loud" in reply to the most mundane situations or conversations.

"XD" is by far worse than lol.
You're not some anime character, your laughinh face doesn't look like that, it's stupid.

I think they dont actually laugh when they say "lol" in that way, there's another reason behind it possibly? :O

The Joker begs to differ. :(

And meh, idc about it. Nine times out of ten whenever someone says 'lol' it really means "I don't know what else to say, haha!"
