Lord of the Rings or Lord of the Flies?

I'd personally say "Lord of the Flies." It depicts imagery really well, as said in a previous post (like the conch shell as a symbol of order).

I have the LotR books, but I haven't really read them. I read and loved the Hobbit though.

As for Flies, eehh.... not the best book I had to read for school

I personally am not a fan of social commentary type things like Lord of the Flies. We had to read a lot of those in middle school (including Lord of the Flies itself), and they're just far too depressing for someone like me. I think that genre is what turned me off of reading so much back then.

I must say I haven't read the LOTR books, but I love the Peter Jackson movies. If I'm going to read or watch a movie for entertainment, I'd much prefer a fantasy adventure over something that's there to remind you of how sick people can be or the shortcomings of society or some political system or whatever.

I'll have to agree, though, with those saying it's like apples and oranges. The question should be more like 'Do you like your entertainment full of fantasy or gritty reality?'

The only Lord of the Rings book I've read was the Hobbit. The movies are great but I just honestly cannot get through the books.

Lord of the Flies, on the other hand . . . I loved the book but most of the movie versions fail. xD

I'm going to say Lord of the Flies just because I liked the artistry of it. Lord of the Rings is entertaining but honestly I didn't see the point. Even though I was forced to read it in school (lol wasn't everybody) and I had trouble getting through it, in retrospect the meaning has stuck with me for a long time so I'm picking Lord of the Flies.
Lord of the Rings, just where the hell are the flies anyways.....
"Lord of the Flies" is another name for the Biblical demon Beelzebub, one of the seven princes of Hell and a symbol of gluttony.

William Golding was a cynic and he wanted to explain how when tension runs high, civility is the first thing to go (Simon), then reason comes soon after (Piggy), then finally order (the conch).

Or did the conch go before Piggy? Oh my I don't even remember, but you get it. :P

I loved lord of the flies as i think the conch represented Democracy, order and unity whereas jack represents dictatorship like when for no reason he tied up one of the kids and beat him also Democracy-Conch brought the boys together to discuss things and decide on what to do. Dictatorship-Jack ordered the boys around making them fearful.
This asumption makes sense as the book is set during the war :)

But i also love the fantasy element of lord of the rings but iv only seen the film so i wont go in depth with this one :)
