Hey Newbies, Johto_legend here! so when i started i was pretty clueless about everything, all i knew is that i wanted my own pokemon game. So ive decided to be nice and tell you guys some of the best tutorials that will definitely help you when u start a hack.

    Main Tutorials

These tutorials are for beginners but some do require some background to fully understand what they are explaining.

    Mapping Tutorial(s)

Mapping is probably one of the 2 biggest parts of a hack, so getting a good tutorial can completely change your hack.Mapping involves editing the maps you see in-game.
    • Haefele's Mapping Tutorial - This tutorial is alrite for beginners, its expects you already know some things about mapping and how to do basic things and basic terms. It also shows how to map most common areas and is quite good with its lessons. It should help you get started at the least. If you want something more advance, or simpler, you can look for one later.

Here is the link to the application for mapping - Advance Map

    Spriting Tutorial(s)

Next comes spriting. this maybe be the easy or hard, depending on your view of it. Spriting invloves making OWs(the player image/sprite), trainers(the sprites u see when u enter a battle) and Pokemon.

    Scripting Tutorial(s)

Now we'll cover scripting as its more important and necessary. Scripting, to me, is very challenging and take a while to get the hang out it. scripting can pretty much change everything in the game. Its main object is to create events and edit what people say when you talk to them.
    • diegoisawesome's Scripting Tutorial - This is probably the best tutorial ever for scripting. It is very beginner friendly and explains everything very well. but make sure the practice, going through this once will not be enough.

    Other Important/Helpful Tutorials

These Tutorials are not necessary but will probably separates your hack from the others.

    Tile Inserting Tutorial

Tile inserting lets you change the style or look of your trees, mountains, houses, and etc. Just check it out to see what I mean.
    • Cello's Tile Inserting Tutorial - THE best explained and easiest way. I was able to insert tiles in about 10 mins top after practicing this method. It explains everything so clearly and even has FAQ section.

So these are the main things that are needed for a hack and some of the best tutorials for some help. Hope this helps all future hackers. Be sure to check out the tutorial section for yourself because there are MANY things i didnt cover that will really help you along your way. Thanks guys.

I wanna give credit to the people who made these tutorials, because theyre fantastic and deserve some recognition. these not only helped me but will now help future hackers.

I also hear that music hacking/editing is a big thing among beginners to give there games some originality. Magnius's guide to music editing is pretty much the authority on this subject. Link

    Something good to add...

    Shiny Quagsire's ASM Tutorial
A very good tutorial that is perfect for getting your feet wet in the world of ASM.

But is learning ASM really that important to beginners? IMO you should learn everything else first (mapping, xse, tiles/sprites/music inserting etc) before you jump into the world of asm.
