March Map Making Contest - Voting Thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
Okay, guys. It's now the 18th so the entry thread is now closed. We've received ten entries in all, which is probably more than I would've anticipated. I'll probably do another contest next month, and I'll enter that one too, hopefully others will follow suit.

Anyway, on to the voting. You may vote for two different maps, but you can't vote for your own maps. You must provide reasons for why you have voted for those maps, and try to be constructive with your reasons and not just "I vote that one because it's the best."

Voting will last until Sunday 25th March. Good luck, folks.

First vote, yay ^_^ Darn you Canine Munch O.o lol

I vote 1 map, and thats:

Pokemon Route/Town by Rm2k3kid - Why? The map is secluded, but holds originality, and I think the town's paths must have taken great time and effort, and effort well put. The paths match perfectly with the houses, making the town fit together nicely. Good work, Rm2k3kid

My vote is for Riverdale by Don Patch. It uses a classic RPG setting without going cliché. The map also looks very servicable to be placed in a game.

I also vote for pokemon Route/Town because it looks like a eral town, you know, nothing looks like it was placed by some formula. It looks like it really developed over time.

My votes for Pokemon Route/Town by Rm2k3kid.

I vote for the Pokemon Route/Town by Rm2k3kid! (You rock man!):classic:

Which part of "You must provide reasons for why you have voted for those maps, and try to be constructive with your reasons and not just "I vote that one because it's the best."" Did you both not understand?

Nice to see people working to make this contest happen. I'll enter the next one too, probably.

Since we can choose two maps, and there are both Pokemon and non-Pokemon maps, my voting will be divided into these two categories.

For the best Pokemon map, my vote goes to Rm2k3kid's Route/Town. Besides the fact of him being the best mapper on PC (and my personal friend), the map contains everything that a good Pokemon map needs:

* Good use of space;
* Good use of the tileset, adding details to possible empty areas (like flowers and pathways)
* Diversity of places (like forest, lake, beach, mountain and town), all of them magically put together. They just fit in, which is something not very easy to do.

Now, for the non-Pokemon maps... I was choosing between the Zelda map (by Rm2k3kid) and the one made by Glitchfinder (Untitled).

My vote goes to Glitchfinder's map, because of it's level of detail. Different trees, rocks and mountains. Awesome use of tileset there too, with all those waterfalls. And also points go for the usage of RTP resources, since they force you use your skills to produce something good.

That's basically all about it,

~Azura.

Sorry... ~_~

I choose Rm2k3kid's map because it has life in it. You see, he add a lot of details on it. The town is quite cute as the route.

Oh sorry man missed that!

Anyways I think the maps fantastic its got lots of detail and isn't all the same thing over and over.

Nice work RM2k3.

My first vote goes for "Untitled map" from Glitchfinder.

My vote goes for it because it's the most eye soothing map in this thread, although it has errors, two that I spoted, but they are very hardly noticable, and both are cliff related. It reminds me of those imaginary landscapes filled with magic (I'm thinking Warcraft right now). The layout of threes/stumps is near to perfect and all those levels and waterfalls look climb-ready.

My second vote goes for "Pokemon route/town" by Rm2k3kid.

This map has a very nice feel to it. The layout is also very good, although it differs from the regular pokemon styled mapping, but different, in this case, is good. It is very huge, wich is a plus, and the water route is... Well more natural looking than normal pokemon maps. But the beach looks weird because of the edges. I can't really see anything more wrong with it.

My fisrt vote goes to Pokemon Route/Town by Rm2k3kid, despite the fact that it might kill my own. I chose this map because Rm2k3kid is a master mapper. Although my own map was not made to be functional, but was instead made to be good to look at, this map is not only functional, but will provide a varied and unique landscape. That is a very hard balance to strike, and Rm2k3kid has pulled it off with aplomb. Congratulations!

My second vote goes to Chromeshore City by Crazy Weavile for several different reasons. Crazy Weavile may not be a master mapper, but he certainly tried his best. Not only that, but the map does offer variety, which, as the saying goes, is the spice of life. Although the map could use some finishing touches, as along the coastline, and a little less uniformity, as in the locations of the buildings, it shows a budding mapper who one day, if he tries, will become a master mapper whose maps may equal those of Rm2k3kid.

Thanks for the great comments. I noticed that nobody has noticed the errors with some of the shadows under the trees (I accidentally double-layered some of them), so I wished to point that out. Also, thank you for the great comments on my landsaping. I specialize in areas relatively untouched by human hands, and, if the next contest enables me to do so, I will submit some functional maps that I created for one of my projects, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Library. (You can find the initial version of that project in one of my posts at www.pojo.com, and my screen name is the same there as it is here)

My vote goes to Route/Town, Rm2k/3 kid obviously took a lot of time to make it and if you ask me, it looks better than a lot of the stuff Nintendo come out with.As far as I can see there are no mapping errors, although the Beach does look a bit odd.

My vote goes to Glitchfinder's Untitled map. It is very detailed, uses the tileset excellently, and is overall excellent. The many waterfalls add to the experience, as well as the many different types of tree and shrubs. The cave is also a nice touch, too.

My vote goes to Rm2k3kid's Town/Route map.
The map is really impressive. It seems pretty diverse. Not only does it have just and enter and exit route, but appears to branch off onto 2 other paths which are the cave and sea route.
I admit I kinda don't like the idea of having to go through the house to get to the gym- but that would be my only negitive thing to say about it(the map).

So, who won this?

I haven't counted, but Rm2k3kid seems to be the most voted...
