Am i the only one who thinks that the masuda method is the worst way to get shiny pokémon?
Even though the chance of getting a shiny pokemon are multiplied by four by the time you receive and hatch an egg you could have seen around 20 making it pretty much useless.

When you put it that way, I guess that makes sense... but I'm fairly certain every encounter/egg is a 1/whatever number chance every single time. So it's not like you would encounter a shiny once every eight thousand battles or so.

Dx I'm not really sure how to explain how it works.

The Masuda Method works fine. I have gotten 3 Shiny Pokemon out of it, with only 50 Eggs produced, you just got to have a little patience.

Thats funny cause bulbapedia says that the chance is only 4 times less.

random encounter 1/8000 something with masuda method 1/2000something I have done it a lot on Platinum but never gotten a shiny
It like Barrage said takes plenty of Patience and even more luck

For the Masuda Method you need a lot patience, and I mean a lot. I have tried it before and let's say that I gave up on the first 20 eggs, in my opinion I think it's the worst way of getting a Shiny Pokémon having the RNG method in D/P/P and in SS/HG but, it's a bit more complicated.

I find that RNG method is a more quick and fabulous way of getting Shiny Pokémon in no time. The process isn't complicated once you get the hang of it.

Going to move this to Pokemon General Gaming as the Masuda method doesn't just exist in HGSS.

yeah but the thing about Rng is you have to know your secret ID which is well a very good Secret
The easiest way to find your Secret ID is to use an Action Replay Code. If you don't have one, you can use the "Deducing Your Secret ID" guide on Smoogon to find your Secret ID. It may seem very tedious but it's really just patience and some calculations.

...You only hatched 20 eggs before giving up? That's...well, really, that's just not trying. Get a Pokémon with Flame Body and 20 eggs takes around 20 minutes, which is nothing compared to the over-complication of RNG. The taps on the Coin App. are irritating and if you get just one wrong you have to start again. You also require an AR to work out your Secret ID, and access to the Battle Frontier to catch the high-level Pokémon required. :| At least for Masuda all you require is access to the GTS and Solaceon in DPPt or GoldenRod in HG/SS.

The irony being that to deduce your SID without AR, you have to have first...caught a shiny in the wild.

    It's a 1/8192 -> 1/2048 chance of hatching a shiny with the Masuda Method.

I agree with Moriarty, giving up after 20 eggs is nothing. I hatched over 100 Skarmory eggs with nothing and only stopped after that because I forgot about it, then I learned how to RNG for shinies and didn't even consider the Masuda Method anymore.

If you have access to an AR then you don't need to go all the way to the Battle Frontier to catch high-leveled Pokémon, you just need the code that verifies a Pokémon's IVs and you can catch one right by Solaceon Town. You can also bother a friend with an AR to find your SID for you ;)

The irony being that to deduce your SID without AR, you have to have first...caught a shiny in the wild.

You can also chain ~5 shinies and use their IVs to find your SID if you haven't been lucky enough to catch a random encounter one in the wild.

The chances of somebody not having an AR and having found a random encounter shiny OR having the patience to chain ~5 of them to find your SID is very very slim though. RNG really isn't for everybody if you simply don't have the patience to restart over and over to find a suitable frame for taps/flips that aren't in the thousands. It's kinda hard to believe that if you don't have the patience for that, you'll have the patience to hatch hundreds, if not thousands, of eggs.
