"Meet the PokeCommunity'ers" is a series of the Daily Bloggity in which I have a one-on-one with specific members of PC in which we can get to know them more. All responses are in their own words, and questions were made on a general basis. If you would like to see a specific user in the next edition, comment below! This will be a weekly series appearing in the Daily Bloggity at 5 PM Eastern Time every Sunday.

When did you become a member of PokeCommunity and how did you come across it?
I came across PC on February 2, 2011 during a Google search for Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes. I decided to make an account so that I could post in Pokemon Gaming Central's Ruby and Sapphire Remake Speculation Thread. I'd had a bit of forum experience in the past and really enjoyed it so I made the decision that night to actually be active on there and meet people, and I haven't looked back since!
Considering you joined the site looking for Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes, that must mean you're pretty excited about the newly announced remakes right? Anything in particular that you'll be looking for in the anticipated games?
You know, for all the waiting I did (three years and six Pokemon games, to be exact) I wasn't as excited as I thought I'd be lol. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm totally excited and I'm gonna buy the hell out of those games, but I saw Facebook statuses from PC members talking about how they were jumping around screaming and hadn't stopped for hours, and I thought I'd be that way too, but I just wasn't. Then again, I could just be dead inside - my mother called me at work last Tuesday and said "your grandfather is apparently on his death bed, we need to get down and see him as soon as possible" and my response was "... well I mean I'm kind of at work right now", so there's that to consider.
The thing I'm looking most forward to is having secret bases back. They were the best part of those games by a mile lol. Also I'm hoping they add extra places in Hoenn to explore, like they did with Kanto and Johto.
What is the significance or origin behind your username? Past usernames?
I've had exactly three usernames in my time here, none of which have a very significant origin, but I'll go through them anyway.
My original name, Shining Raichu, came not from a Shiny Raichu as so many seem to think, but from the Pokemon card Shining Raichu, which I got as a fluke in a pack of Pokemon cards when I was much younger. I always have a hard time coming up with usernames for things and I felt like I should have one that was Pokemon-related, so that's what I went with, after probably half an hour of sitting and thinking.
My second name, The Artist Formerly Known As Shining Raichu, I just thought was hilarious. But annoying people started whining because God forbid somebody have a name that is a touch too long and stretches their precious postbits, so I was offered a sexual favour by an Admin in order to have it changed back. Tempted though I was, I declined the offer and agreed to change it back anyway.
My current name, Catholic Nun, I just also thought was hilarious because I'm gay, an atheist, and have handled more meat than a delicatessen .
Do you think you'll ever return to either of your Shining Raichu identities, or do you think you'll stink with Catholic Nun (or even change to a new one eventually?)
I'm sure I'll go back to Shining Raichu at some point, but I'm enjoying shopping around for the moment. I'll leave Catholic Nun behind as soon as I have my next great idea that's actually doable. Some of the things I come up with are quite elaborate and require Photoshop skills to make accompanying images that make sense... of which I have none.
Which forum do you see yourself gravitating towards the most and why?
Well, Chit Chat Cafe! You don't become the mod of a section by gravitating toward another one lol. I gravitated there because my friend was part of a HalfLife 2 forum and was always telling me about the hysterical stuff that was going down in the off-topic sections, so I decided after I was tired of talking about Pokemon to make that my home. I haven't left since, I rarely talk about Pokemon here at all anymore lol.
What has your experience as a Moderator been like? What was your reaction when you found you were becpming a Moderator?
Oh I remember how excited I was when I was asked. I was unsuspectingly drawn into a group convo with some higher staff and was unnerved by it to begin with because I wasn't aware half of them even knew I was alive. Then someone told me to refresh PC and there my name was in bold blue. After spending twenty minutes being convinced that this was indeed not a joke, and finding out which forum I was actually modding, I had to go to work and I could barely wait to get home through the whole 8-hour shift.
My experience as a mod has been great for the most part! There was a whole lot of drama with inter-staff fighting a long, long while back (if I could name names I'd tell you all the dirty gossip but I honestly think I'd get in trouble and some of them are still on staff and we're all cool now so I don't wanna go stirring anything up. You can read about it in my tell-all memoir in 40 years), and then there was that little misunderstanding where I got fired at the end of last year and had to claw my way back in five days or less, but other than that it's been fun!
What would you say are your current goals for the Chit Chat Cafe, if there are any that is. How would you like to improve on an already pretty popular section?
I'd just love for everybody to relax. I know CCC has a reputation for being really relaxed these days because before Dipu quit he kept posting forum announcements saying "OK GUYS WE'RE RELAXED NOW" but I still don't feel like it's translated enough into people's posting. I find myself these days going into threads and posting smartass comments to people's posts more than actually answering the questions myself, and I wish more people would be like that. I want the place to be a bantery dialogue rather than a robotic monologue.
There's been a little bit of controversy lately over the fact that my section has started seeing some more adult (i.e. sexual and drug-related) topics, which really frustrates me. There are a few AAOBOCWDECs (Adult Activists On Behalf Of Children Who Don't Even Care) who feel that these topics mightn't be appropriate for a Pokemon community. I get really annoyed at that because part of the reason I'm allowing these topics is because I want people to feel safe discussing things here that they might be afraid to discuss in real life. So, while being as polite as I can possibly manage to their faces, in my mind I'm just thinking "will you just sit down and mind your own business" because they don't understand that I'm trying to create a more open and healthier world.
So yeah, essentially my goals boil down to "everybody chill".
Daily Music - "How To Save A Life" by The Fray
If you could make any improvement to the site, what would it be and why? If you can't think of anything, what would you like to stay consistent?
A more relaxed atmosphere... this is happening somewhat now but there are still people resisting. I'd really like everybody to mellow out and not take themselves or the site too seriously.
What is your favorite pokemon and why?
Raichu! When I was growing up all the attention was focused on Pikachu (and no wonder why, it's the cutest thing to be invented since Hello Kitty) but Raichu never got any love. I took a liking to it because it was sort of the Holy Grail. Ash would never evolve his Pikachu and Pikachu became so popular that Raichu was a rarity. It didn't really exist in many people's minds, so I grew to love it. I guess I was a hipster when I was 8 years old.
If you were granted a wish and could wish for anything - besides more wishes and more genies - what would you wish for and why?
Money - and I really think that anybody who says otherwise is ultimately lying... short of wishing for the resurrection of a dead loved one. Money is the key to everything in this world, and if you had enough of it to take away the worry, then that's a stress-free life right there. Money means so much more than what you can buy with it; it's security, it's comfort, it's the ability to quit the job you hate and dedicate yourself to something you love but would never have had the opportunity to do before because you were too busy paying the bills. It's health, it's an exit strategy, it's the base point from which any life can grow.
What is your favorite video game or series and why?
Aside from Pokemon? It would have to be the Smash Bros series. I've always loved cross-overs and to have all of Nintendo's heroes come and use their powers to fight each other is awesome. Close seconds are The Sims and Tekken.
Do you have a favorite character to play as in the series?
If you're talking about Smash Bros, then Zelda/Sheik are where it's at. Nobody can defeat me with Beam Sword Sheik. We have logged hundreds of practice hours in the 100-Man and Endless Brawl sections, kicking some multi-coloured robot ass.
If you're talking about Tekken, which is somewhat less likely, then I love Jun, Asuka, Xiaoyu and Nina equally. Most people won't care but the Tekken people out there know what I'm talkin' 'bout. They know.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming Smash Bros game? Think it will live up to the hype?
There are two things I've heard that I don't like that all - the first is that Zelda and Sheik are now their own characters rather than transformable, I really hate that. The second is that the Wii Fit trainer is a playable character. Other than that, I can't wait to play, it's gonna be awesome. There hasn't been a Smash Bros game yet that hasn't lived up to the hype.
Daily Comic - "Eating" by Fudology
Who is your favorite video game character and why?
Yoshi, does anybody else in the world have a different answer to that question?
What would you say is your dream vacation?
A three month getaway to England. The nice part, not the dodgy part. I think I'd hear their accents and just melt into a puddle on the floor, which would be nice because my work gives me a lot of muscle pain.
Muscle pain? What do you do for a job?
I'm the assistant manager at a liquor store, which involves a lot of heavy lifting when deliveries come in. I'm probably just being a wuss, since it would require actually having muscles to have muscle pain.
Who is your favorite artist/song?
Lily Allen is my favourite artist, but The Fray's "How To Save A Life" would have to be my ultimate favourite song. I have other choices that most people would most likely never have heard of, but I think it's really obnoxious to use those examples in an interview like "Oh look at my eclectic taste in music, I'm so much better than you because I don't follow the trends".
I don't listen to a lot of music in general, though lol
How did you feel about Lilly Allen's "Hard Out Here," which seems to attack the current trend that females have been taking this generation?
I love the song. I mean, the message has kind of been done. There are already countless songs and "very special episodes" of teen TV shows and various other pieces of art from people surrounding the objectification and struggles of women that had it been anybody else in the entire world I would have just been like "OH MY GOD SHUT UP", but because it was Lily Allen I thought it was funny and delightful.
Now that I've said that, I feel the need to clarify something lest I come across as an anti-feminist jerkwad. My objection to people talking about the objectification of women isn't because I don't think it's a worthwhile cause, it's because I really really really can't stand constant repetition. I'm even starting to get annoyed with the gay rights activists for this. Now, I'm gay so gay rights are an issue that affects me directly, but there's only so many times you can hear "love is love" or "I chose to be gay the same day you chose to be straight" before you kind of wanna start punching some homos.
What would you say is your favorite TV or cartoon to watch as a kid?
...Pokemon. That's a funny question to ask on a Pokemon website
I also liked Power Rangers, Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon.
Daily Video - "Baby Mario & Papa Yoshi - brentalfloss" by animator brentalfloss
Outside of PokeCommunity, what are your favorite hobbies? What interests you?
Movies and television, mostly. I'm very into media and stories and if I have a good plotline I can get lost in it for hours, the world be damned. I go to the movies whenever I get the chance and I have a range of TV shows that I follow week-to-week.
Any movies lately you've seen that you think others should see? What current TV shows are you watching?
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Aside from The Avengers, that is the best movie that that Marvel universe has come up with ever. And it's even better if you watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside it. Really, if you have time, you should all go back to the beginning and watch the entire universe. It's so fantastic, and I hate comic books.
Now, TV shows. This isn't the question you asked but I strongly feel that everybody needs to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Dollhouse at some point before they die. Joss Whedon is a genius and that needs to be acknowledged the world over.
Now onto the question you actually asked lol, the only one other than S.H.I.E.L.D. that I'm keeping up with recently is The Good Wife. That show is really amazing as well, I love it because there is no time in that show when each and every character is not his or her best. It makes it fascinating because the strategies people devise kind of makes it like watching a game of wizard's chess. I'm also into Grey's Anatomy, Revenge and Scandal as well as comedies like The Big Bang Theory and Mom, but I need to actually catch up on all of those because I've fallen way behind lol. Oh! Girls, too.
What would you say is the biggest thing that annoys you about people?
I can't possibly answer that question as one thing, so I'm gonna split it into three.
1 - Patriotism. I find it obnoxious and annoying, especially when in regard to some kind of sports team victory/loss.
2 - People who worry too much about what's appropriate and what's inappropriate.
3 - Having, or wanting to have, children. This is probably the thing that annoys me most of all, because nobody seems to agree with or even understand my viewpoint. I get that people have these biological clocks in their bodies just tick, tick, ticking away telling them that they need to reproduce. It's basic instinct, and I do know that. But I can't remember the last time I trusted a talking clock to make my life choices and I don't see why anybody else would either.
There is just so much life out there to live, and you can't do it with a toddler clinging to your leg. People don't seem to understand that having a child will suck everything you are out of your soul and replace it with being a parent. There will be nothing of you left, just a withered husk of what you once were that screams things like "TIMMY DON'T LICK THAT WINDOW YOU'LL DIE." So people please, if you think you want to have kids, you probably don't. Parents are among the most miserable people I know. Don't do it to yourself, this world doesn't need more children.
Want to give a shoutout to a fellow PCer for their hard work on the site?
Use of the word "work" makes me think you're asking about a member of staff, so I think I'll go with Audy (Ausaudriel, Owl). I think he and his passion and coding - especially in recent times - have gone way above and beyond the call of duty for a hobby like this website.
