Mega Metagross

    Hi, I recently bred a shiny beldum with jolly nature that has almost perfect 6iv's (30 in def). I love metagross but I was wondering for OU matches if mega metagross was worth the bother of sacrificing a mega evolution to. I was wondering how people think about him online.
     
    mega metagross is god, it's p fast and it hits hard and has good coverage, tho it suffers from 4-moveslot-syndrome a little. it is def worth sacrificing ur mega slot to, but it must help your team out tho, and not some random [insert mega to use lel] just because you like it.
     
    Mega metagross is currently s ranked on the viability list, that should say a lot about it.
    It will be a good idea to Pair him up with thing that take out the stuff that can counter/check metagross well, Dugtrio metagross and talonflame is a great core to build around.

    Sub cm keldeo can also set up on almost all of metagross's checks like Skarm,sableye,Scizor, Bisharp etc.

    Mega Metagross is bae, but I agree with revere that it's not a Mega you can just throw onto a team and think shit will go well.

    To add to what Srinator and revere said, Agility Mega Metagross is viable, even though it's already fast. If you're willing to give up coverage for a bit more extra power and Speed, Mega Agiligross is a good late-game cleaner, even though you do need a bit more support in that regard:
    -Agility
    -Meteor Mash
    -Zen Headbutt
    -Hammer Arm/Earthquake/Ice Punch
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 80 HP/252 Atk/176 Spe
    Item: Metagrossite
    Ability: Clear Body

    Wow!!! Thanks so much for that information. I never really knew you could have an entire team build around him. I always wanted to use him but he was always stuck in UU but now his potential in competitive actually seems viable^^
     
    i wouldnt say 'build a team around megagross', more like 'pairing up mega gross with suitable partners to take out counters/checks and synergizes with each other'.

    also just because a pokemon is in a a lower tier, that doesnt mean it's unviable. stuff like celebi, chesnaught, raikou, etc are viable in ou too.
     
    So I heard and realized in Japan they banned mega metagross from OU because of the 700 base stats including the tough claws and major speed boost. I am not online very often but is mega metagross common in online battles?

    I haven't seen any threads crop up in Smogon regarding a suspect test on Mega Metagross. What's the source?

    Its on a japanese forum similar to smogon but their smogon bans anything above 600 base stats so.... doesn't mean much.
     
    SO you're telling me that there exist a forum where regigigas is banned from OU, and that you refer to this forum.

    As stupid as it sounds....yes... but you gotta know that different countries have different rules for different reasons...

    i dont get this, how does a pokemon's competitive viability or brokeness depend on a country lol. the major competitive pokemon community is smogon and most competitive players follow smogon's rules no matter where they're from.

    You know what... you are right. I should double check the forum to see if there were any exceptions but all i know is that mega meta is 100% banned in ou due to 700 base stats.....

    mega metagross isn't banned on smogon tho lol. black kyurem has 700 bst but it isnt banned o/

    mega beedrill, mega medi,mega mawille, mega kanga, mega lop etc would still run around, abilities would bypass the ban ;o

    Please... all i am saying is that it was just the decisions that forum made that is different from smogon. I think the reason is that they don't want 8 year olds spamming it every game

    it's strong yes, but it has its checks and counters too. pls if 8 yr olds were to spam it, they would spam giga impact and aerial ace.
