As we all know, Unova missed out on getting Mega Pokemon by one generation. Sure it probably wasn't planned for Unova BUT the fact is that to history, Unova doesn't stand up to Kalos introducing Mega Evolution.

(Note: Nothing to do with competitive battling here, sorry. Just in-game stuff!)

So. What if the tables turned, what if Unova had it first?

    Discussion points:

Which of the games should have introduced it? BW, which is remembered for having a great story but a lot of flaws, or B2W2, remembered for the features and enhancements but not so much the story? On one hand BW would get a huge one up, whereas on the other hand... it might be less memorable if there weren't any new megas introduced in B2W2. Which would've been the right game for it?

What Unova Pokemon would have been the perfect Pokemon for launching mega evolutions as a concept? How would you implement them in either story? Would you introduce new mega evolutions of the Unova Pokemon in both games? Would have mega Pokemon survived as a concept if it was only Unova Pokemon? Would've Zoroark worked as well as Lucario did for Kalos?

Should White-Kyurem and Black-Kyurem been mega evolutions? Would have it made any difference to the story, or the value of both the formes?

I think it's worth discussing. If Kalos could have it, then why not Unova? Share your thoughts on how it might have played out in the superior games.

I guess making the 5th gen games the first Pokemon games to get introduce Mega Evolution is actually pretty cool since there is theory going around that Colress is the father of Modern Mega Evolution.

I would love it if gen 5 pokemons had mega evolutions. I think it would be the best if it was introduced in BW. But here's the point. GF should have only introduced mega evolution X there. Mega stones for mega evolution Y should have been introduced in XY.

Like Omega mentioned, I wouldn't have minded Megas introduced in 5th Gen especially since there was that one NPC in X/Y who mentioned Colress, who I believe could have come up with the concept of modern Mega Evolution. Unlikely, but that's just one of my odd theories.

You make it sound like a disease.

An American-themed game with 'Mega-Evolutions' may have been a bit too much for them at the time. In addition, they had less need of such features at that point, because the games were only beginning to get a bit 'samey.' Nonetheless, it probably would not have changed much about them, and in all likelihoood they would still tend towards the same Pokemon, for instance old starters, and popular Pokémon of earlier generations who can give it a sense of legitimacy, albeit only by discouraging the actual use of these while relying on them. Obviously, the Unova Pokémon were not designed with promoting such a thing as an immediate aim, so going into specifics there might be unnecessary. Nonetheless, the format of Mega-Evolution is not specifically associated with a region, and in that sense it might not have benefitted Unova that much once the newest release came out, anyway.
