Introduction!

Hi everyone! My name is Megan and I am very honored to be sharing my experiences and adventures here at the PokeCommunity! For those of you that don't really know me as well, let me introduce myself a bit. I've been here for six years, been a staff member here twice, and I've been a huge Pokemon fan for more than 15 years. Pokemon has been a staple to my childhood, and even though the second generation of Pokemon was my favorite generation, when you are a die-hard fan you have to APPRECIATE the classics no matter what.

I live in Houston, Texas at the moment, and let me say...it's amazing out there! There are many places out there to explore, as well as to catch Pokemon! Pokemon GO has made me want to travel a lot, as well as to explore with friends, new and old.

Come with me as I explore the Houston and Galveston areas as I train to become a Pokemon Master. I want to be the very best like no one ever was!

The app has finally been released! The app has finally been released!!

I was eating out at Panda Express after a day of running errands. I was super excited to be running Pokemon GO, and I could not believe that my adventure as a Pokemon trainer was finally starting. I caught a Charmander as my starter. It turned out to be eating dinner with me. I was happy!

I took a trip to Buffalo Bayou. It was my first time actually Pokemon hunting, and I expected the park to be packed. There were loads of Pokestops, and lures all around. And the best part? I was leveling up quickly. Caught a bunch of Pokemon that were dex fillers, like Nidoran (female) and a Magikarp that was out of the water. Out of all the Rattatas that I had caught, a Raticate had appeared on me, and I was able to catch it with one ball!

July 8, 2016 -​

Traveled to Hermann Park today. Lots of lures and Pokestops all around, I walked around the outskirts of the Houston Zoo, where I had encountered a Scyther! Caught it after three Pokeballs, and decided to add it to my party. I named it "Tillery", after my boyfriend's last name. I got my first egg at one of the PokeStops and decided to incubate it. 2km was not much to walk for. Luckily, I got a Pikachu after that long walk!

July 12, 2016 -​

I decided to meet up with a few of my good friends at Discovery Green, which is Houston's "Central Park". I was told that Discovery Green is a freaking GOLD MINE. You cannot imagine how many people have flocked over to Discovery Green. A lot of rare Pokemon have popped up here, including the starter Pokemon. I was able to catch good Pokemon such as Horsea, Squirtle, and Arbok. My first Pokemon evolved there, a Poliwag into a Poliwhirl. Then, we headed to my good friend Tory's place, where he lives nearby a park (Chimney Rock Park) where it has a Gym (where he and his girlfriend are both gym leaders) and he said it is an Eevee and Dratini nest. I had to go there. But he never told me that it was also a next for Bellsprouts and Weepinbells. I was able to catch a Weepinbell, two Eevees, and a Dratini at the park.

July 13, 2016 -​

I decided to explore Westchase a little bit while I was running errands. People on Facebook said that yes…Westchase is a neighborhood with great Pokemon that are definite dex fillers. Caught a Fearow, a Koffing, and a Gloom along the way. Plus, I discovered that one of the shopping centers has not one, but TWO gyms. Looks like I will be coming back. Later on along the way, I decided to return to Hermann Park to meet up with the same group from Discovery Green. There were tons of people hunting for Pokemon. The luckiest catch of the night? SNORLAX! Named him "Denny" after Denny Hamlin, a NASCAR driver. Also, I ended up getting a Slowbro. It was a 782 Slowbro so I decided to add him to the team as well. "Drysdale" is what I named him, after a favorite English teacher from high school. Hatched two eggs as well, a Sandshrew, and a Mankey.

July 14, 2016 - ​

Returned to Westchase again in hopes of finding more Pokemon to fill my dex. I decided to stay at the shopping center nearby my school where it housed three gyms, all taken by Team Mystic. The Westchase Fountain C, which housed a gym, had room for one more leader and decided to appoint my Slowbro, Drysdale, as my Pokemon of choice. Within minutes, Drysdale was defeated. Later on, I decided to explore Memorial Park. It was mostly trails to walk around, so it is perfect for me to get my eggs hatched. Surprisingly, I encountered a CP682 Pidgeot! I freaked out and decided to throw as many balls as possible…until it got away from me. I got really sad because I wanted that Pidgeot so badly! I was bummed later on so I went to see my friends down at Westbury again (Chimney Rock Park), and dropped a lure at one of the Pokestops nearby. A Beedrill appeared on my radar, and I was lucky enough to catch it.

Evolved a few Pokemon here and there. One of my Eevees evolved into Jolteon (named "Iris), and Psyduck evolved into Golduck (named "Bubbler").

July 16, 2016 -​

I decided to go local this time and explore a little before I hit the road to the Galveston countryside to see my boyfriend. There was a Mosque nearby my house that had a gym that was UNCLAIMED by neither team. I became the first person to claim that Gym as a Mystic gym. Tillery, my Scyther, was appointed as the main Pokemon. Seconds later, Tillery was defeated by an Instinct team member. I gave up and decided to just move on. Later tonight, my boyfriend and I explored the Santa Fe Gazebo that's nearby his house. I decided to set off a lure module there, where we would hope to find at least one Pikachu. Instead, we were lucky to get Eevees and Venonats. I got enough Eevee candy to evolve another Eevee into a Vaporeon. Named it "Avery" and it became my highest, most powerful Pokemon to date.

Attended a Pokemon GO meetup at a Gaming Warehouse. We all went crazy that there was a Diglett. Another Pokemon added to the dex. :)

I found out that the Baptist Church in Santa Fe (nearby my boyfriend's house), was claimed by Valor, and it had a Flareon that was 100CP lower than Avery, my Vaporeon.

I decided to take it on.

It was super easy, and was able to claim the gym myself. I decided to appoint Tillery to the gym. I don't expect it to take long, plus the next time I return to see my boyfriend, I will come back to this place and take it back…that is, if it's not taken from Team Mystic already. An hour later, Tillery was defeated.

I returned to the Mosque, which is the gym nearby my house. It was claimed by two Instinct members with a higher CP Snorlax. With determination, I was able to take the gym down myself with Avery, Tillery, Denny, and Iris. Avery was appointed as the main leader, but was defeated instantly by a Valor member.

Then back to Westchase, where I'll be having a class later on. I decided to take on the gyms at the shopping center. Adding Drysdale to the roster at Westchase Fountain C. He stood there for a while until yet another Valor member took the gym down. The other gym next to it was taken by Instinct, and a CP 1720 Lapras was ruling it. I decided to pass on that one.

The Portico Fountain by the Beltway was taken by a lone Valor member with a CP 1000 Flareon. I decided to gamble and have Avery take on the fight. Surprisingly, she won! And I took the gym down and claimed it mine. As of this post, Avery remains strong at that Gym, and I am so proud of her!!!

Nice to see you again Megan :) Sounds like you have a ton of gyms and stops where you live, I'm pretty jealous about that! Your team and collection are both looking pretty cool and you've managed to rack up a fair few rare mons already - I'm impressed and just a tad jealous. What are your goals going to be for Go now?

Primary goal at the moment is to power up my Scyther, Tillery. I'm trying to see if there are a few othr Scyther sightings around the Houston area other than the two I currently know (Hermann Park and the Gazebo near my boyfriend's house in Galveston) so I can have enough candy and stardust to power him up. He has saved my butt in gym battles the past few times and could really use him for my team.

Today became another gym hopping day, as I was going to remain in Westchase for the majority of the day due to school. I found out that Avery was no longer the top Pokemon reigning the Portico Fountain gym in Westchase. It was the longest time I held a gym down (two days), and looks like Team Valor raised it to a Level 4. Looks like I will need more help on that one.

The other gym I was a leader of, the Mosque, were also taken by Valor and they all seemed impossible for me to take down. However, I did not back down when I sent Drysdale to take down the Bowling Alley that was nearby. It seemed fairly easy, though. I was able to claim the bowling alley a victory for Mystic, and appointed Drysdale as the Pokemon leader. Currently, Drysdale is the highest leveled Pokemon in my party so far.

My goal right now is to level up Tillery. Bubbler and Denny have a lot to work on, but Tillery could be a very useful Pokemon to battle, especially with how rare Scythers are in these parts. The only two Scyther nests I know so far are Hermann Park, and the Galveston countryside where my boyfriend currently lives. He was also having trouble finding a Scyther for him as well but, again, it's a pretty rare one to find these days!

Before I entered class tonight, I decided to stop by at Westchase Park, where Team Mystic has taken over and raised the gym to a Level 6. The gym's prestige is close to a Level 7. So, in order to earn a spot in the gym, I have to challenge that gym to a friendly battle. Drysdale, who was the current higher-leveled Pokemon, was the only Pokemon allowed to go in to fight. I was able to get through two battles, enough for me to raise the gym's prestige, and earned me a spot at the gym itself. I decided to appoint Iris into the gym, as she hasn't had any shine since I powered her up. And the gym was a little off-balance in terms of typing, so Iris would be a great addition to the gym.

Driving home from class, I decided to take one last stop to the Mosque nearby my house. It turned out that the same Team Valor group that had kept the gym at Level 7 was taken down earlier and was replaced by a group of kids storing lower leveled Pokemon. This was a chance for me to actually take the gym myself for Mystic. But, I felt like I was being trolled by these kids. Right as I finished healing Drysdale and Avery from their battles, the gym was immediately taken back by those kids, placing the same exact lower leveled Pokemon. It was a Growlithe, so it was a piece of cake for me. After several tries, the kids finally gave up, and gave the gym to me. I'm not sure if those kids are part of the Mosque, or they are just trying to troll people. Because there was another person, an Instinct member, trying to take the gym as well. The Instinct member gave up after several tries, though.

About last night…maybe I should have left the gym with the kids…seeing as I may have trolled with them too much lmao

So Westchase is now Team Instinct territory, huh? They are NOT messing around. While Mystics and Valors are chopping each other's heads on who gets what gym, Instinct comes roaring in. Maybe I should have joined Instinct.

But anywho, I took back the Bowling Alley gym once more, but with my low count of revives and potions, I decided to back off the gym battling and take a break from it. As I now have the energy to hunt for Pokemon later on when the heat dies down.

My 5K egg finally hatched today! I probably haven't walked as much seeing as I was busy getting some of my schoolwork squared away (and not to mention car problems earlier this morning and last night). I got a CP431 Grimer! I never had caught a Grimer before so that became a nice addition to my dex entry. I don't think I'll power up this Grimer though. My main goal still is to power up Tillery.

So on today's agenda, I was going to meet up my boyfriend in Pearland for a Pokemon Go Meetup at a German restaurant. His mom came with us just to try out the food, and the beer. The restaurant was holding a raffle as well as who had the strongest Pokemon (in terms of CP). Of course, nether me or my boyfriend had the strongest, so we decided to pass. The restaurant had two pokestops with lure modules, as well as a gym that was too strong for anyone that's not Valor.

A lot of Venonats spawned around the area as well, which was enough for me to evolve my Venonat to a Venomoth. A pretty good day today, so to speak! Especially the fact that I leveled up to 14 today.

July 22, 2016

I decided to hit the road to the Galveston Countryside where my boyfriend lives, and spend a few days there. It's the one area I know that spawns Scythers frequently, so I am for sure hoping to catch a lot while I'm here because I would really like to power up Tillery. I have enough Stardust, but not enough candy.

They usually pop up at night, though.

Later on during the day, my boyfriend and I decided to do a mini road trip throughout the countryside and while he was driving, I was playing Pokemon GO on two phones (mines and his). It was hard to balance because I had to catch Pokemon on both phones and get the Pokestops that were out there. Not a whole lot of rare Pokemon had spawned on the road, though, but my boyfriend needed the Pokeballs because his goal is to capture a Pikachu and one had ran away from him before one time and made him waste all his balls.

On our way back, we decided to stop by for bubble teas at an asian café. Right next to the place was a gym that was taken by Team Valor, and with a CP731 Flareon. We both decided to take it down, and claimed it ourselves. Because of our strength, the Gym Level was a 3 and it was perfect. He decided to appoint his CP950 Vaporeon, while I appointed Drysdale.

I became super jealous of him when a WILD BUTTERFREE appeared on his radar and not mine. I was so mad that my game had glitched on me. I'm sure it has happened to you, right? I had to restart my game and the Butterfree no longer appeared on my radar anymore. I'm happy my boyfriend got it to fill another entry on his dex, but I really wanted that Butterfree though. ;;

As we returned to his house, I checked my radar after stopping at the Gazebo (a Pokestop) for more Pokeballs. A CP773 Pidgeot appeared! I already had a CP220 one with me that I had evolved earlier, but this one was a hell lot better! It took me 20 balls to catch it, and the berry did helped as well. 21 balls later I finally caught a wild Pidgeot. I decided to add it as part of my team, donning the name "Brisalia".

Other evolutions and hatches happened as well. I got a CP280 Poliwag which I evolved to a CP450 Poliwhirl. I also evolved a Staryu into a Starmie. Not a higher leveled one, but I got a ton of Staryu candy to power it up.
