Its really sad how so many things about Misty which had strong start, even stronger tangle starting to unfold out got in end abruptly cut in middle unfinished and untold. Not just from shipping aspect, but also her dreams and desires to become water pokemon master(which lets face it can't be achieved at gym with traveling, entering strong tournaments to make name for yourself like Wallace and develop more creative battle styles learning from other experts is required). Her ambition to learn as much as she can about water pokemon and one day meet and bond with legendary one, live up to her idol Lorelei from E4 (it would been amazing if she took her as her protege eventually becoming E4 of water types but eh).
Along with Misty feelings, various fears and personality flaws never being told and resolved leading somewhere. Like her fear from bugs with Surskit encounter offering material for some deep development causing turmoil in character with despise for bugs clashing with love for water pokemon struggling in accepting it, lack of authority in standing up for herself when older sisters are in question, why she wants to become water master, how she got her first pokemon and more of her past life like parents.
Misty was and is great character(no matter what fans of future generations think), she has rich personality and matured in full of pride and more tolerant person while keeping her hotheaded, sarcastic, sometime girly and romantic side making her complex character. She has great pokemon, interesting background and unique dreams. Along with colorful, full of emotion and memorable moments relationship with Ash. Because Misty knew how to lift up atmosphere and extract fire, emotions and admiration with her playful, sassy and caring, assertive demeanor.
Making it sad and disrespecting how writers didn't finished or at least provided some decent conclusion to Misty story leaving it open. Wishing all that more that this great character comes back and enriches anime with humor, flare and strong presence she can produce, expand on her unfinished dreams offering wide array of interesting directions through which we can someone develop in totally different light,.
And of course revive some of unmistakable dynamic she was capable of making with Ash and others with anime losing certain charm ever since she got replaced.
And like I said in multiple posts by now already,. Hawaii based region(Alola) is 100% perfect environment and region to revive Misty character and make her relevant again, Both because of her strong connection to oceans, aquatic themes and such pokemon, but as well because of next year being officially 20th anniversary of Pokémon anime.
I think most who ever cared for Misty or liked her is frustrated how this amazing character which left huge impact on pokemon series is neglected and ignored like she never existed.
Because that's exactly what happened with writers and directors acting like she was never important to begin with, didn't left huge impact on storyline and Ash character. Didn't had her own story, fans and legacy which deserves to be acknowledged.
I loved Misty tbh, but even as a huge fan of her character, I'm kind of glad that she left. I mean, she was wasting away in Johto: All she really did back then was compete in the Whirl Cup and pull Brock's ear in every other episode. She wasn't really needed by the time OS ended, and she was lucky to get a few appearances in AG. :x
Don't you think your being abit unfair? I mean your not the only one, but its sad how so many people forgot or don't want to remember how much Misty really was active in Johto? All I hear is "Misty had Whirl Cup in Johto and thats that" , despite Misty shining in several episodes and arcs showing plenty of character.
Misty battled more, got more character development and involvement in various episodes like "Tanks Alot", "Just Waiting on a Friend", "Plant it now, Diglett later", "Unbearable", "Dunsparse Deception", "Joy of water pokemon" about Joy which hated them etc, etc, yet no one seem to want acknowledge that.
Its absurd. I mean i liked Brock in Johto, he was very memorable character there. But for some reason people think Misty was more in background than Brock was, despite she getting more episodes dedicated to her and more focus?
On top of that she got more character development there out of all main characters and that suddenly means she became "bad character"? Because she revealed beside her aggressive side other qualities, matured and became more confident in herself and determined in what she wants from her dreams?
Most importantly based on how much Misty focus and development increased in last Johto season, Master Quest serves as petty strong indication how her focus and importance if she was present in future sagas would only go up instead of down.
What exactly would prevented writers to do better job with Misty than they did in Johto? Getting justice done to character. Especially when Mr. Shudo successor Atsuhiro Tomioka through future girls proved to know how to develop female companions. With Misty much better treatment in last Johto season being his merit, considering how whole Whirl Islands detour and follow up episodes were his ideas developing ideas and ways in how to explore Misty story and dreams more. But was stopped in his plans given how decision from top from directors was already brought up long before in accordance with ex head writer.
Sometime I wander, Do people even care about Misty unfinished story, unfulfilled dreams and big appetite she had in reaching E4 level? Her subplots like crush on Ash, unsolved fears, her family and undefined future?
Or everyone are indifferent to situation where its possible that we never see original pokemon girl in speaking role ever again, let alone in playing important role in pokemon anime coming back for substantial arc to make something more and memorable with her?
This pretty much. If she stayed as the main character she would be as bad as DP Brock was. I'm glad she left when she did.
We cannot know that. If Misty always had more focus, more active goal, more development and bigger role than Brock when both were together in series, what makes you think her screen time would suddenly shrink to Brock's level?
With so many new game features, water rich areas like Hoenn was, massive amount of new water pokemon to diversify Misty pokemon team. All kind of strong trainers like Wallace, Juan, Crasher Wake, Marlon, Siebold in Kalos etc. Suitable landscape to make follow up pon Whirl Cup giving Misty chain of competitions to enter, prove her worth as water specialist and come closer to water master goal. Ways to explore her character in different direction learning and training through specific tests if she has what it takes to become type master and E4 one day. Ending eventually as E4 apprentice.
Accompanied with more attention being put on unfolding out Misty feelings and desires, her past etc. Chances are she would go forward instead of backwards.
