Misty Returning

Not open for further replies.
Yeah, no kidding, and unlike her successors, who at least are allowed the opportunity to complete their goals, or even Brock, who changed his goal of his own free will, her opportunity to pursue her goal was stolen from her thanks to her incompetent sisters (the fact that the writers decided in AG for whatever reason to make the Hoenn gym leaders largely a bunch of pansies who were easily beaten by rookie Pokémon [the only exceptions to that rule were Roxanne, who lost to Pikachu, an established veteran, and Brawley, who actually MANAGED to beat Ash instead of Ash beating him on the first try]). What's worse, the writers wasted perfect opportunities to bring her back (a particularly notable example was the Pokémon World Conference which in the games was one big reunion with all the prior generation Gym Leaders from all the regions, which they skipped over in Best Wishes, meaning they had the perfect opportunity to redeem themselves of their treatment of Misty, on a silver platter, from the games, and they utterly blew it). Misty had BETTER return as a major character in Alola, or else... the second one of the writers comes over for a convention, I WILL make sure that they squeal and agree to the stipulation that Misty return.

I would love to see her back traveling with Ash and Serena. Two girls in love with and fighting over him while Ash is oblivious and only focused on Pokemon.

I loved Misty tbh, but even as a huge fan of her character, I'm kind of glad that she left. I mean, she was wasting away in Johto: All she really did back then was compete in the Whirl Cup and pull Brock's ear in every other episode. She wasn't really needed by the time OS ended, and she was lucky to get a few appearances in AG. :x

I could argue that she could still be traveling with Ash, collecting water pokemon from every new region they go to.

Actually, she wasn't wasting away in Johto. Not any more than Ash was, anyway. The only character who was truly wasting away was Brock which is largely thanks to his not breeding a single Pokémon in Johto DESPITE GSC introducing the breeding mechanic. In fact, she actually rivaled Ash in terms of development for herself and her goal (in fact, her goal was considerably fleshed out to the extent that we actually have a very good idea as to what exactly her goal entails. Ash, by comparison, we only knew he needed to get eight badges to enter the league, that's it, especially when they don't elaborate even further on whether winning a league even lands you the title, and if anything, until DP and the Sinnoh League's revelation that Ash needs to beat the Elite 4 and champion to become a Pokémon Master, it's implied that it doesn't since Ash still continued his journey in Johto despite winning a league in the Orange Islands).

Besides, if she was kept on the main cast in AG, you can guarantee she'll have more focus on her goal, considering Hoenn's a region with more water than land (heck, until Alola in the upcoming Sun and Moon, that was the only region to have that kind of layout), and thus a greater propensity for water types, AND there was a villainous team called Team Aqua. And if they can expand what was ultimately a filler quest in the games into a full fledged goal for May, they most certainly can turn a Whirl Cup type challenge into an actual full-fledged element. Heck, the Manaphy movie would have developed her character even further and possibly give her some more backstory. And then there's Sinnoh and it's introduction of a certain Water Pokémon that varies by which half of the region it's found in. Even Kalos would have been a good means of allowing even further development with her goal regarding a pure-Water type Elite 4 member.

EDIT: I really wouldn't go into shipping there (to be honest, I don't ship, not unless it's something like Love at First Sight or at least something that is guaranteed to be canon otherwise. I might be slightly more aligned with Pokeshipping than Amourshipping, though that's only because with Pokeshipping, Ash has to some extent reciprocated in kind, while Ash is so oblivious he wouldn't notice love when it hits him in the face regarding Amourshipping.).

I know alot of people dont ship. That is the downside of an anime where the main character stays perpetually 10.

I would have loved a series where characters aged in realtime, and where Ash, Misty, Brock Pikachu became supporting/guest characters/mentors to a new group of competitors. Ashs goal could have been to become an elite 4 member himself who traveled to other areas to collect Pokemon, Misty by his side doing the same to stock her gym with Pokemon challengers in her gym would not have seen up to this point.

With the current practice of dumping every female traveling partner Ash has after he finishes a league, with some of them returning for brief periods afterwards, until they're eventually never seen or heard from again, it's no wonder I feel the whole Pokémon anime has become stale. Maybe that's why the ratings are such crap right now (and maybe also why everybody's defecting to Yo-Kai Watch, at least in Japan).

I could argue that she could still be traveling with Ash, collecting water pokemon from every new region they go to.

Her collecting Water-types was never particularly exciting to me tbh, especially since she barely used the ones she had in OS anyways. So if she had stayed and done that, it wouldn't have been thrilling unless she had another goal too imo.

This pretty much. If she stayed as the main character she would be as bad as DP Brock was. I'm glad she left when she did.

I wouldn't mind another guest appearance though, she definitely deserves one. Maybe she'll appear in Serena's post XY special if they're going to continue making those kinds of specials

Big difference, Brock didn't have a goal that required him to be active. Misty, however, did. At worst, she'd only become as stale as Ash did.

You do realize that's the same as Ash right now, right? He collects Pokémon, he barely uses some of them he has, and many times after a region, he even goes as far as to dump them.

Besides, even if it was simply collecting Water Pokémon, she still had a more well-defined goal than the primary character (for goodness sakes, we didn't even get anything on his goal until, what? Pokémon DP where they mentioned he needed to beat the Elite 4 and Champion? It wasn't even a guarantee that beating the league would have Ash become a Pokémon Master since Ash managed to beat the Orange Islands league and STILL had to continue his journey despite that, and don't get me started on how he beat the Battle Frontier, who had trainers that according to both Scott and Agatha were at least Elite 4 level, maybe even higher level than even the Champion of the region if Noland and Brandon are anything to go by.). To be honest, I actually was irritated at just how LITTLE they had defined Ash's goal, especially when there wasn't even a clear endgame to it (and by clear, I mean something like 2 + 2 always = 4). Only thing that was clear was he get badges and then join a league. That's it. We couldn't even use a league as an example because he beat a league and still continued his journey. At least with Misty, heck, even May, Dawn, Iris, and Serena, we actually KNEW what their goals entailed and the endgame. Even Tracey had a more defined goal than Ash did. It's actually pretty sad when characters who aren't the central character have far more defined goals than the actual central characters.

Its really sad how so many things about Misty which had strong start, even stronger tangle starting to unfold out got in end abruptly cut in middle unfinished and untold. Not just from shipping aspect, but also her dreams and desires to become water pokemon master(which lets face it can't be achieved at gym with traveling, entering strong tournaments to make name for yourself like Wallace and develop more creative battle styles learning from other experts is required). Her ambition to learn as much as she can about water pokemon and one day meet and bond with legendary one, live up to her idol Lorelei from E4 (it would been amazing if she took her as her protege eventually becoming E4 of water types but eh).

Along with Misty feelings, various fears and personality flaws never being told and resolved leading somewhere. Like her fear from bugs with Surskit encounter offering material for some deep development causing turmoil in character with despise for bugs clashing with love for water pokemon struggling in accepting it, lack of authority in standing up for herself when older sisters are in question, why she wants to become water master, how she got her first pokemon and more of her past life like parents.

Misty was and is great character(no matter what fans of future generations think), she has rich personality and matured in full of pride and more tolerant person while keeping her hotheaded, sarcastic, sometime girly and romantic side making her complex character. She has great pokemon, interesting background and unique dreams. Along with colorful, full of emotion and memorable moments relationship with Ash. Because Misty knew how to lift up atmosphere and extract fire, emotions and admiration with her playful, sassy and caring, assertive demeanor.

Making it sad and disrespecting how writers didn't finished or at least provided some decent conclusion to Misty story leaving it open. Wishing all that more that this great character comes back and enriches anime with humor, flare and strong presence she can produce, expand on her unfinished dreams offering wide array of interesting directions through which we can someone develop in totally different light,.
And of course revive some of unmistakable dynamic she was capable of making with Ash and others with anime losing certain charm ever since she got replaced.

And like I said in multiple posts by now already,. Hawaii based region(Alola) is 100% perfect environment and region to revive Misty character and make her relevant again, Both because of her strong connection to oceans, aquatic themes and such pokemon, but as well because of next year being officially 20th anniversary of Pokémon anime.

I think most who ever cared for Misty or liked her is frustrated how this amazing character which left huge impact on pokemon series is neglected and ignored like she never existed.
Because that's exactly what happened with writers and directors acting like she was never important to begin with, didn't left huge impact on storyline and Ash character. Didn't had her own story, fans and legacy which deserves to be acknowledged.

Don't you think your being abit unfair? I mean your not the only one, but its sad how so many people forgot or don't want to remember how much Misty really was active in Johto? All I hear is "Misty had Whirl Cup in Johto and thats that" , despite Misty shining in several episodes and arcs showing plenty of character.

Misty battled more, got more character development and involvement in various episodes like "Tanks Alot", "Just Waiting on a Friend", "Plant it now, Diglett later", "Unbearable", "Dunsparse Deception", "Joy of water pokemon" about Joy which hated them etc, etc, yet no one seem to want acknowledge that.

Its absurd. I mean i liked Brock in Johto, he was very memorable character there. But for some reason people think Misty was more in background than Brock was, despite she getting more episodes dedicated to her and more focus?

On top of that she got more character development there out of all main characters and that suddenly means she became "bad character"? Because she revealed beside her aggressive side other qualities, matured and became more confident in herself and determined in what she wants from her dreams?

Most importantly based on how much Misty focus and development increased in last Johto season, Master Quest serves as petty strong indication how her focus and importance if she was present in future sagas would only go up instead of down.

What exactly would prevented writers to do better job with Misty than they did in Johto? Getting justice done to character. Especially when Mr. Shudo successor Atsuhiro Tomioka through future girls proved to know how to develop female companions. With Misty much better treatment in last Johto season being his merit, considering how whole Whirl Islands detour and follow up episodes were his ideas developing ideas and ways in how to explore Misty story and dreams more. But was stopped in his plans given how decision from top from directors was already brought up long before in accordance with ex head writer.

Sometime I wander, Do people even care about Misty unfinished story, unfulfilled dreams and big appetite she had in reaching E4 level? Her subplots like crush on Ash, unsolved fears, her family and undefined future?

Or everyone are indifferent to situation where its possible that we never see original pokemon girl in speaking role ever again, let alone in playing important role in pokemon anime coming back for substantial arc to make something more and memorable with her?

This pretty much. If she stayed as the main character she would be as bad as DP Brock was. I'm glad she left when she did.

We cannot know that. If Misty always had more focus, more active goal, more development and bigger role than Brock when both were together in series, what makes you think her screen time would suddenly shrink to Brock's level?

With so many new game features, water rich areas like Hoenn was, massive amount of new water pokemon to diversify Misty pokemon team. All kind of strong trainers like Wallace, Juan, Crasher Wake, Marlon, Siebold in Kalos etc. Suitable landscape to make follow up pon Whirl Cup giving Misty chain of competitions to enter, prove her worth as water specialist and come closer to water master goal. Ways to explore her character in different direction learning and training through specific tests if she has what it takes to become type master and E4 one day. Ending eventually as E4 apprentice.
Accompanied with more attention being put on unfolding out Misty feelings and desires, her past etc. Chances are she would go forward instead of backwards.

The Director/Producer of Pokemon Anime must have noticed how Dragonball Super Rating Spiked when Future Trunks reappeared.
In fact , It is the highest rated episode so far.
So , Pokemon Sun & Moon might decide to have Misty and Brock reappear.
However , Pokemon anime might not just care about Rating since they are still Top 5 most profitable anime.

As for DB Super ,
I look at Bulma and Wonder , Can Misty become as or more hotter then Bulma.
I would hope Misty to reappear with a new One-side-ponytail if it wasn't for that cursed HGSS Misty .
Misty should try different One-side-Ponytail , Misty isn't Misty anymore without her signature One-side-Ponytail.

Also , I just Notice something on new trailer for Gundam Build Fighter Tri 1: 11

It make me wonder , Why Can't we have a Movie trailer where Misty and Brock's spirit' shown to be lenting Ash and Ash-Greninja enough power to defeat an Antagonist ?
It perfect for 20th anniversary movie.
Off Course , Writer can do that with Serena and Clemont but they doesn't share the connection that Ash , Misty and Brock has .

Don't be too sure. Pokémon Best Wishes also sold a lot of merch, yet they were clearly influenced by ratings by the last part of the saga.

And besides, it's going to be the 20th Anniversary next year. I doubt they'd let that go to waste.

Only way Misty's going to become hotter than Bulma is if the writers actually LET Ash age. Don't forget, Misty's 10 as well (she practically made that explicit in the Japanese version of Episode 3 when she said that waking up to see Caterpie sleeping next to her is the worst thing that has happened to her in the "ten years of [her] life." And that's not getting into how her official bio in various Japanese magazines explicitly listed her as 10.).

?

Wouldn't that require Misty and Brock be dead?

Like I said, I am still hoping the writers come to their senses and bring Misty back as a traveling companion.

The dynamic between Misty and Serena would be amazing. Fighting over Ash while he stays completely oblivious, only worrying about catching Pokemon and winning badges.

Misty should return with Psyduck considering he is a funniest pokemon.

If Ash hypothecally wins the league then I can see him meeting Misty by surprise in his home.
I like to point out that we haven't seen anyone to inform Ash about Alola.
Maybe , Prof Oak send Ash to Alola for an urgent reason.
Misty decide join because its a tropical Island which might have a lot of New Water pokemon.
Brock tag along because It has a beach filled with Hot , Young and cute girl on Bikini .

Or , Delia might give Ash the ticket to Alola as present to spend his Vacation.

Don't be too sure. Pokémon Best Wishes also sold a lot of merch, yet they were clearly influenced by ratings by the last part of the saga.

What's actually change ? Writers still doing the crap as Best Wishes.
They just simply made Ash act competent and bring an averagely Cute girl to chase after him.
But , Writer/Director still favoring other characters and focus on stupid fillers which doomed Best Wishes ! First it was Trip and Now its Alain.
It took 3 year for Ash to get something like Mega despite being the main protagonist.
While Alain get Free mega ring , Beat E4 Member and Now might become Kalos league champion DESPITE BEING A JERKISH SPIN-OFF PROTAGONIST.
Also , Amourshipping just so below for Writers who created Contestshipping , It like they didn't even bother with it ! They simply just brought some cute girl that would fangirl over Ash.
Nothing change , Writer just now trying to hide their direct favoritism !

And besides, it's going to be the 20th Anniversary next year. I doubt they'd let that go to waste.

May is hotter then Bulma !
In fact , Whoever designed "May" is a genius ! Who could have thought that such an simple design would create an extremely Cute girl like May.
May is like Kari (Digimon Adventure) or Fumina hoshino (Gundam build fighter Tri) who has a genuine cuteness that make them more attractive then other girls.

I guess , Misty just need a new One-side-ponytail since she has a great Skin-tone thanks to her orange hair.

?

Wouldn't that require Misty and Brock be dead?
Spirit doesn't just stand for Ghost , Haven't you ever heard of Fighting Spirit ?
I'm talking about Misty and Brock fighting Spirit appears to give Ash and Ash-Greninja enough power to beat the main antagonist.

Maybe Misty, Along with Brock, Return to tell Ash that Kurt Finally Found a Way to Open the GS Ball, I would start watching the Pokemon Anime if that Happened to be honest.

However, such a Plot Device could only work if Ash Actually aged, Because he Doesn't Age it blurs the sense of Time and how much he's grown and changed since the beginning. Imagine if everything was the same, but instead of Ash being 10 currently he was instead 15+? Meeting His Old Friends but older would truly show how far he's come and definitely be a very memorable and possibly even Historical moment in the Pokemon Anime

I don't think that they will fight over Ash.
Serena probably be insecure about the close relationship between Ash and Misty.
While Misty will try to look after Serena since she is so passive and shy.
If Serena does confront Misty about her feeling for Ash , Misty probably will deny it like a True Tsundere.

Plus , Serena's dream is to be Kalos queen so she should remain in Kalos and only make a cameo appearance in Alola.
Also , We also can't ignore the potential for Lillie.
An intelligent girl with mysterious agenda who hates Pokemon battles.
A Complete opposite of Ash.
She might be perfect traveling companion for Ash specially if she has similar short tempered personality as Misty.

Off course , if would be cool if Writers tries to create a Trio of Red , Blue and Green.
That case , Ash would be Blue and May would be Red So writers would need someone green to join them.

I would personally prefer it if Brock didn't return largely because of his womanizing gag, but if he must return, might as well let him return, since it is going to be the 20th anniversary, anyway.

And yeah, any of those options would work, especially if the rumors of what the content of the game's going to exclude are true.

As little_hero pointed out in another thread regarding ratings, they did bring Charizard back (and not just bring him back temporarily and send him back to Lisa. I mean he fully returned to Ash's roster to such an extent that when he DID leave, it was so he'd be part of Ash's Pokémon at Oak's Lab). They also did bring in the World Tournament Junior Cup (even if it WAS badly handled). They did have an actual Legendary Pokémon join the team (Meloetta). They even brought back Pokémon from the prior generations (remember, B&W primarily focused on the 5 Generation Pokémon barring Pikachu and Meowth until that point). To some extent, they even brought Dawn back, someone not many people would have assumed would come back for pretty justified reasons. And it also acted as the first time they explicitly used the term "Season" in Japan to describe part of a series (remember, Japan doesn't generally have seasons).

I remember someone pointing out that Misty didn't reappear in pokemon anime's 10th anniversary.

Yes, but you also said that they'd probably do something bigger regarding the Anime's 20th Anniversary specifically because most anime don't last that long.

May is hotter then Bulma !

You mean "cuter than Bulma." Hotter just sounds wrong especially considering May is supposed to be 10 (it comes too close to sounding like May was a child porn star). And quite frankly, speaking as someone who utterly objected to Hidaka's practices regarding the girls, I also find it somewhat sickening that they'd use 10 year old female children as fanservice material. At least Bulma was a late teen when she had her start in fanservice.

Spirit doesn't just stand for Ghost , Haven't you ever heard of Fighting Spirit ?

Again with them !
If Wrtier cared about rating then they wouldn't hand Junior Cup over to Trip Or make Ash lose to an idiot like Cameron.
They only brought Charizard back for a useless arc and kick him out when Ash needed him for Megevolution.
It as if the writers didn't care about viewer feeling or rating !

You do need an attractive girl in anime that Kids want Protagonist to impress.
Youkai Watch doing the same thing with Fumi , Doreamon did it with Shizuka.
Its because most Kids goes though their first crush and often imagine themselves as the protagonist.
So they want the protagonist to impress the heroin just like they want to impress their own crush.
So, sort of like Spirit Bombs in Dragon Ball?

I never said it was done right, I just said they attempted to do something regarding them.

And considering that Charizard's, you know, actually ON Ash's roster now rather than being trained under another trainer and didn't return to said other trainer in BW, which had been the case in Johto and even Battle Frontier, I'd say that it was DEFINITELY better in that case. That being said, I do agree with you that not bringing in Charizard or even Sceptile to do Mega-Evolutions was just stupid.

They will do something Big.
But it might not have anything to do with Misty or Brock .

They were the two original friends of Ash. When you're going to do something big for the anniversary, you're best going to include the characters who helped make it happen. It's like a Star Trek anniversary event without Kirk, Spock, or Bones in some form.

After growing up , I realize that Hidaka was right .

Hey, if they wanted to have an attractive girl for kids to watch a character impress, go right ahead, but they need to make sure the girl in question is far older than a 10 year old especially if she's specifically going to end up being used in terms of sexual fanservice. Otherwise, it's no different than peddling child porn, which even in Japan is highly illegal. The writers should NOT have made May 10 years old. 16 years old? I can buy that. Heck, I'd even buy it if she were 14 years old even though it's not really good. But 10? No, absolutely not.

Nope , Brock and Misty's spirit will appear behind an wounded Ash and gave him energy to power up for one last attack.
