- Stuck for atleast 2 hours because I thought the Underground Tunnel was blocked... turns out I was looking in the wrong place! xD Thanks GryphusHUN!

- Donald evolved into Golduck.
- Received Card Key.

Update on Ultimate Monocolor Challenge (Red).

Final Update (#2) on FireRed.

• While in the Rocket Hideout, Boomer evolved into Electrode!
• Defeated Giovanni with Hotshot, obtained the Sliph Scope, then scaled the Pokemon Tower and got the Poke Flute.
• Made my way down to Fuchsia City, and Strabo evolved into Charizard!
• Grabbed the Super Rod and Good Rod, and fished up Vicer the Krabby in Vermilion City and a Poliwhirl on Route 24.
• Traded the Poliwhirl for my last team member, Zynx the Jynx.
• Started training up Vicer and Zynx on the trainers along the routes to Fuchsia City, then headed to Saffron City.
• Went into Sliph Co, and soon Vicer evolved into Kingler!
• After defeating all the Rockets, I defeated Blue, then Vicer wiped the floor with Giovanni.
• Went back to Fucshia City and defeated Koga with Zynx, then went to the Saffron Gym to defeat Sabrina with Hotshot.
• Surfed to Cinnbar Island, got the Secret Key in the Mansion, then defeated Blaine with Vicer.
• After beating the rest of the trainers available to me in Kanto, I took on Giovanni in the Viridian Gym, and Vicer took him down.
• Defeated Blue once more, then went through Victory Road to Indigo Plateau.
• After some moveset finalizing and some Rare Candies to get everyone to L51, we were ready for the Elite Four.
• Lorelei was handled by Baller, Hotshot, and Strabo.
• Bruno was defeated by Vicer, and Rafflesia.
• Agatha was stronger then I expected, but Baller, Hotshot, and Strabo were able to defeat her.
• Lance was tough, but Zynx was able to finish strong after Aerodactyl went down.

- Defeated all trainers in Blackthorn Gym.
- Defeated the gym leader, Clair.
- Went to Dragon's Den.
- Defeated trainers.
- Received the Rising Badge.
- Flew to New Bark Town and received Master Ball.
- Flew to Ecruteak City and went into the Tin Tower. Saw the three legendary dogs and went into battle with Suicune.
- Captured Suicune with Masterball (Nothing else to catch with this ball, so decided to catch Suicune (with a BST of 580) to save time). Also, I caught Suicune because it's one of my favourite Pokemon :P
- Named Suicune Aurora.
- Went to the PC Box and replaced Mickey with Aurora. Also replaced Poliswag with Poppy (temporary) to fly to Cherrygrove City. Deposited Poppy.
- Walked to New Bark Town.
- Surfed and took first step into Kanto :)
- Halfway through battling trainers.

Update on Ultimate Monocolor Challenge (Red).

Update #1 on HeartGold.

Name: Scarlet (female)
Rival: Silver
Starter: Chikorita

• Started with Chikorita, who got me through the initial part of the game until I reached Violet City.
• Got an egg from Primo, and out hatched Cherie the Slugma!
• After a little training, Cherir beat Sprout Tower easily with Ember, then defeated Falkner with Rock Throw.
• Moved through Union Cave to Azalea Town, then caught Tochukaso the Paras in Ilex Forest.
• Trained her up on some trainers I skipped in Union Cave, then defeated Proton and Team Rocket in the Slowpoke Well.
• The gym was next, and Cherie took Bugsy down with Ember and Rock Throw.
• Defeated Silver, then went through Ilex Forest to Goldenrod City. Bought Fire Blast for Cherie in the Dept Store.
• Went up to the Bug Catching Contest, and after a couple tries, caught Scarlet the Scyther.
• Taught Scarlet Headbutt, then laid waste to the trainers around the city.
• Took on the gym, and Cherie came through in the clutch, surviving Rollout with 1 HP, then hitting Fire Blast to win.
• Caught Sudowoodo, then used him, Scarlet, and the traded Machop from the Dept Store in the Pokéathon Power Event.
• Eventually I got enough Athlete Points to buy a Metal Coat, then used it to evolve Scarlet into Scizor!
• Moved north to Ecruteak City and defeated Silver in the Burned Tower, then took on the gym with Cherie.
• Cherie use Fire Blast to great effect against Morty, although she did need to be healed a few times.
• I am now saved in Mt. Mortar. The Red Gyarados is our next target.

-Started out with a Turtwig but immediately hacked in a Misdreavus egg as per the new-ish rule. Hatched it and named her Agatha
-Caught our old buddy Wedge the Zubat at the Oreburgh Gate
-Trained up a bit and took on Roark. It took a couple tries because I had to get lucky with Confusion hax on his Craniados because it carries Pursuit, but the fight got done

Hoenn leg down, played on Ruby!

♦ Started out with Scorchling the Torchic, whom I soloed with for the first 3 gyms. In the Meteor Falls, I caught a Solrock that I named Solfatal.
♦ Had to beat Norman in order to get Surf and thereafter get the Good Rod, which I used to fish up a Corphish that I named Jenkster.
♦ Did some Surf sidequests and got some TMs for Jenkster, who soon evolved into Crawdaunt.
♦ After trekking up to Fortree City and beating Winona, I continued to Lilycove and Mt. Pyre and caught my final team member, Magika the Meditite.
♦ Beat the rest of Hoenn, including Elite Four and Champion. Honestly not much else to say, it went smoothly without any trouble. Steven was a bit difficult, but not impossible.

Ultimate Purple Monocolor Challenge (Platinum) Update #2

-Got to Valley Windworks and caught our newest team member, Spooooolsh the Shellos
-Mars almost took us out but Spooooolsh came through with a clutch victory
-Grinded up the team to Lv. 20 in Eterna Forest. Wedge learned Wing Attack, so he's no longer useless
-Wedge evolved into Golbat on his way to kick Gardenia's bum
-Got to Hearthome City, payed Bebe a visit, and got our old friend Dmitri the Eevee :)
-It took a couple tries, but we got Fantina down. Dmitri, despite not being able to do any damage to her Mismagius, helped out quite a bit with sand Attack and a chance to heal up Wedge.

Update on Ultimate Monocolor Challenge (Red).

Update #2 on HeartGold.

• Went through Mt. Mortar to Mahogany Town, then went north to the Lake of Rage.
• After a couple tries, I was able to catch the red Gyarados, who I named Kraken.
• Taught him Surf, then went back to Ecruteak and headed to Olivine City.
• Scaled the Glitter Lighthouse, then realized that Delibird was a SoulSilver exclusive.
• Hacked in a Delibird egg and out hatched a female one, then caught Lapras in Union Cave.
• Bred Delibird with Lapras, and out came Rockhopper the Delibird, with Ice shard and Water Pulse as egg moves.
• Taught Rockhopper Pluck and Ice Beam (won from Voltorb Flip), then started making my way to Cianwood City.
• Eventually Rockhopper more or less caught up with my team's levels, and then I defeated Eusine.
• Took on the gym, and Rockhopper was able to solo Chuck with Pluck.
• Taught Rockhopper Fly, and away we went, back to Olivine City.
• After healing Amphy, Jasmine was willing to battle, and Cherie was able to solo her with Fire Blast.
• Flew back to Mahogany Town, where I followed Lance into the Rocket Hideout.
• Eventually defeated Petrel and Ariana, the latter alongside Lance, and then took on the gym.
• Pryce was a bit tough, but Cherie was able to finish it with AncientPower and Fire Blast.
• Team Rocket had taken over the Radio Tower this time, so I went in there to take them down.
• Beat the Executives in the Tower easily and saved the real Director in the Underground.
• Defeated Archer with Cherie able to semi-sweep with AncientPower and Fire Blast.
• Moved on to the Ice Path, where I grabbed a Jynx to breed into Smoochum so she would be able to learn Confusion.
• After Smoochum hatched, I named her Jessie and taught her Ice Beam (yes, more Voltorb Flip!).
• Arrived in Blackthorn City after some training, and while defeating the trainers on Route 45, Jessie evolved into Jynx!
• Took on the gym. Claire was tough to defeat, as I was a bit underleveled, but thanks to a Choice Specs, Jessie was able to finish it with Ice Beam.
• Took the Dragon Den test and got the Rising Badge, then got a call from Elm.
• Got a Master Ball, then Elm told me about the Kimono Girls, so I headed over to the Ecruteak Dance Theater.
• I purposefully lost against the final Kimono Girl several times to earn money and raise my team, as we were sorely underleveled.
• During the gauntlet, Cherie finally evolved into Magcargo!
• Eventually defeated them all, then scaled the Bell Tower and used the Master Ball on Ho-oh.
• Made my way to Victory Road and defeated Silver at the end, then did some more training on Pokegear rematches.
• After a little moveset editing, I was finally ready for the Elite Four.
• Will was easy as pie for Jessie to sweep with Choice Specs+Shadow Ball.
• Koga gave me some trouble, and eventually Rockhopper had to come in to finish it.
• Bruno was tough as well, although Kraken was able to hang tough to win against Machamp.
• Karen wasn't too hard, as Kraken was able to finish off Houndoom, Murkrow, and Vileplume with Waterfall and Ice Fang.
• Finally Lance was up, and he was the toughest to defeat by far, even with all my Ice moves. Kraken was the MVP here.
• I am currently saved in Olivine City, about to go to Kanto.

Last Johto game, Crystal!

♦ Started off by picking Chikorita, but I soon left it to be an HM slave after Spinweb the Spinarak was caught.
♦ Went through the Sprout Tower and the first gym with him, which was a bit difficult. I had to rely on Poison Sting getting useful with poisoning here.
♦ Continued to Azalea Town, and by now, Spinweb had evolved and could take Bugsy down easily.
♦ In the forest, I caught Reissa the Oddish, whom I trained up in Union Cave before heading up to Goldenrod City.
♦ Whitney was no easy match, but I eventually defeated her. Again, poison helped.
♦ Trekked up to Ecruteak, ran into Bill and went back to obtain my Eevee. Named it Flaria.
♦ Defeated the Kimono Girls and taught Flaria Mud-Slap, to help defeat Morty.
♦ Since I had received Surf, I caught some random Water-type and then went to catch my official surfer and fourth team member, Golddigger the Goldeen.
♦ This quartet got me through the many fears and obstacles of Johto, namely the Gym Leaders and Team Rocket.
♦ In the Ice Path, I caught my final team member, Rougela the Jynx.
♦ She reached up to the rest of the team's levels by training a bit, and also taking care of the Blackthorn Gym.
♦ Went into the Dragon's Den to rightfully claim my badge, and then Prof. Elm called to say I could go to the Pokémon League.
♦ Went through Victory Road and defeated them all.
♦ Same old story afterwards - took the boat to Kanto, defeated leaders and then trained everyone up to Lv 60 to face Red.

Update on Ultimate Monocolor Challenge (Red).

Final Update (#3) on HeartGold.

• After getting to Kanto, I made my way to Fushia City to get a Lucky Egg, which took a little while.
• Thanks to a Nincada (Compoundeyes) and Thief, I was able to get one after 5 Chansey encounters or so.
• Set down the Kanto gyms in order, then started grinding a bunch for Red.
• Defeated the second Elite Four again and again, then was able to use Rare Candies to get everyone to L72.
• Did some moveset finalizing, then boxed Rockhopper for Rocky the Onix (needed a Rock Climb slave).
• Climbed Mt. Silver and faced off against Red.

• Started with Tyson the Torchic, and went through the first part of the game to Rustboro City.
• On the way there, Tyson evolved into Combusken, and he made short work of Roxanne with Double Kick.
• Moved on to Dewford Town and Tyson easily took down Brawly as well.
• Got to Slateport City and caught Rafflesia the Oddish, then trained him on the beach.
• Defeated Team Aqua in the Museum, then headed to Mauville City.
• On the way there, Rafflesia evolved into Gloom, then defeated Brendan easily.
• Took on Wattson, who was tough to take down, but Rafflesia prevailed in the end.
• Moved north to Fallarbor Town, then on to Meteor Falls, where I caught Helios the Solrock.
• Trained Helios on trainers I skipped earlier, then climbed Mt. Chimney to deal with Team Magma.
• Defeated Archie with Helios' Rollout, then hopped down to Lavaridge Town.
• Helios was able to take down Flannery easily with Rollout for my fourth badge.

Last game completed for now, FireRed!

♦ Picked Charmander and named it Charlie, and off we were on our final Kanto adventure!
♦ Trained him up until he got Metal Claw and could defeat Brock.
♦ Continued to Mt. Moon, where I caught Miss Mush the Paras.
♦ Did the same to her, and then used her to take down Misty.
♦ Went down to Vermilion City, raided the boat and then beat Lt. Surge.
♦ With my new Cut move I had received on the boat, I backtracked to Cerulean City and went east. Just before the entrance to Rock Tunnel, I caught my next team member, Balloween the Voltorb.
♦ Had to hold off on using it because of the lack in level and movepool, but once we were out, I started training it up as well.
♦ Beat Erika easily with Charlie, raided the Rocket Hideout in the Game Corner and cleared the Pokémon Tower.
♦ Used the newly-obtained Pokéflute on the sleeping Snorlax, and made my way to Fuchsia City.
♦ Picked up the Super Rod on the way, and fished up my final team member, King Klo the Krabby.
♦ Leveled him up on Cycling Road, and then took on the gym. He helped quite a lot with Koga thanks to Mud Shot.
♦ Flew to Saffron City to take on the gym, but realized that the Silph. Co building had been invaded by Rockets. Wiped them all and then finally earned the Marsh Badge.
♦ Surfed to Cinnabar Island and investigated the Pokémon Mansion, earned the Secret Key and was able to challenge the gym.
♦ Blaine was a piece of cake thanks to King Klo.
♦ Helped Bill out with his island shenanigans, and then returned for the final gym.
♦ Giovanni was mostly handled by King Klo, but Miss Mush also contributed to the victory.
♦ Whipped my rival on my way to Victory Road, trekked through it and prepared for the Pokémon League.
♦ Lorelei was taken down by Charlie, Miss Mush and Balloween.
♦ Bruno didn't stand a chance against Charlie and King Klo.
♦ Agatha required a team effort.
♦ Lance was mostly handled by King Klo and his Ice Beam, but also by Charlie's Dragon Claw.
♦ The Champion also required a team effort (as always), but I was crowned the new Champion in the end.

So... that's that! All colors done on every generation, except for 6. I'll consider doing all of them on Y if I get it for Christmas, but I'm not sure about it yet. In any case, this has been a great deal of fun, and hopefully I'll return in the future! :)

Update on Ultimate Red Monocolor Challenge.

Final Update (#2) on Emerald.

• Arrived in Lilycove City, then went to Mt. Pyre to catch a Meditite.
• Realized it was Ruby/Sapphire exclusive, so I hacked myself an egg, and out hatched Paladin the Meditite!
• Started training Paladin up on trainers around Lilycove, and defeated Brendan at the Dept. Store.
• Defeated Team Aqua at Mt. Pyre, and Paladin evolved into Medicham!
• Went into the Magm Hideout and defeated Maxie, then he released Groudon.
• Defeated Team Aqua in their Hideout as well, then surfed to Mossdeep City, where I took down Tate and Liza.
• Dove into the sea and found the Underwater Cavern, then defeated Archie.
• Kyogre got released anyway, and I went o Sootopolis City to talk to Wallace, then made my way to the Sky Pillar.
• Rayquaza calmed down Groundon and Rayquaza, and I then took on the gym.
• Juan was soloed by Rafflesia's Giga Drain, although his Kingdra was tough as usual.
• Moved on to Victory Road after a little EV training, and defeated Wally on my way through the cave.
• Did a bunch of rebattling trainers, then used my Rare Candies to get everyone to L57.
• After finalizing my movesets, I took on the Elite Four.
• Sidney was soloed easily by Tyson's Bulk Up + Brick Break.
• Pheobe was also swept, this time by Paladin's Bulk Up + Shadow Ball.
• Glacia didn't put up much of a fight either, as Helios swept with Rock Slide.
• Drake was almost soloed by Craystar, but Salamence took him out, and Rafflesia finished with Sludge Bomb.

Hey guys, I know this is a double post but I wanted to separate this from my update above.

Recall this rule regarding hack/trading Pokemon that are in the regional Pokedex but not your game:

• You may also trade in ONE Pokémon of your color that is not available in your game as long as it is part of your game's regional Pokédex. This allows you to play with Pokemon that would normally be exclusive to a different game in your region, i.e. Mismagius and Honchkrow in Diamond and Pearl, respectively, as well as Platinum.
  • It must not be higher in level than your weakest Pokemon in your team at the time, or be an egg (the preferred option by far).
  • If you are using an emulator, the Pokemon should definitely be in an egg, unless you are playing Generation I, in which case you may hack it in, as long as it is lower in level than your weakest team member.

I want to clarify an issue regarding this rule that some people have asked about and I have been thinking about for a little while. There are some games that have Pokemon in their regional Pokedex that are not able to be obtained normally until after the challenge has been completed, but are not "version exclusive" per se. For example, the Unova fossil Pokemon in B2/W2, Archen and Tirtouga, can only be revived after beating the Elite Four in B2W2, but are not technically version exclusive, and they have been allowed as hack/trade options under this rule.

I recently realized that this could open the door for other Pokemon in the same boat, so I did some research, and this is the list of Pokemon in each Regional Pokedex that are not available until after the challenge is complete:

Kanto: none
Johto: none
Hoenn: Beldum line
Sinnoh: none
Unova (B2W2 only): Archen line, Tirtouga line, Tympole line, Munna line, Durant, Heatmor, Cryogonal, Stunfisk, Larvitar line, Croagunk line, Carnivine, Tropius, Yanma line, Lickitung line, Igglybuff line, Slakoth line, and the Corphish line.
Kalos: Unknown at this point

These Pokemon will be allowed as possible hack/trades options alongside the true version exclusives, depending on your color. If you want to keep to the in-game stuff, this rule is as always optional.

What about things like Murkrow, Houndour, and Misdreavus in GSC and HGSS (Houndour specifically)? Those are available before Red, but not for the primary game. I realize you could still do the challenge with them, but it would be significantly harder to wait for them until you've beaten the vast majority of the game.

I didn't include them precisely for that reason, as the challenge doesn't end until Red. I know Houndour is the odd man out here, as Misdreavus and Murkrow are both available in the HGSS Safari Zone while you are still in Johto, but the Johto games have always been a bit abnormal in comparison to the rest on the main series games.
