Moon-Weather Move?

With the games being called Sun/Moon, it's made me wonder. Do you think that it would be possible that a moon-weather move would be added in the new games? I think that it would be cool to see what could be done with this. I would assume that if this is added it would benefit mostly fairy types due to their connection with the moon. It could also work with certain other Pokemon, such as Umbreon, Cresselia, etc. However, this could cause fairies to become overpowered. My solution to that would simply be adding better poison types to the game, as well as more steel type moves. So, what do you think? Is this concept likely to happen?

This is something that I don't know about in how Game Freak would pull it off, considering they seem to make Fairy-types related to the moon thanks to moves like Moonblast and also Moonlight's type change, but the moon does control the tides in the ocean which makes me believe the Moon version mascot may be a Water-type.

Well, they could always go with another Water/Fairy type. There are only two of those, I believe.

Part of me also seems to associate Dark-type with the moon, as shown with Umbreon and the fact Eevee has to evolve with max happiness at night to become Umbreon.

That actually makes me think, what if we could get a triple-type Pokémon? It seems weird, but in Gen VI we got Flying Press, the first multi-type move, so it shows they're willing to change things like this. A Water/Dark/Fairy type would be weird and I doubt it'll happen, but it'd really be an interesting twist.

We kind of got already triple typed pokemons with Forest Curse and Trick-or-Treat adding Grass and Ghost types.

They want to make things simpler, triple typings aren't about to happen.

Anyway, I doubt there's going to be moon weather. Simply because the moon is not weather. A sandstorm, drought, rain, wind and hail are all weather but the moon isn't. On top of that water-types already have rain, fairies already have a terrain move and dark pokemon have no association with the weather at all.

People keep making assumptions that because this game is "Sun and Moon" that the sun and moon are going to be a part of everything. Were there Xs and Ys everywhere in X/Y? What about diamonds and pearls everywhere in D/P? What about Platinum? Did we see a million extra steel types added?

The only thing that the Sun and Moon titles means is that the box legendaries are going to be associated with the Sun and the Moon and that if we get a third game its legendary probably be based on the Earth. It might guarantee Solrock and Lunation as version exclusives but even that is not 100%.

So, sorry to kind of start ranting lol
tl/dr no I don't think a moon weather condition will be thing.

I remember talking about a Darkness type of weather move where basically its a weather steroid for Dark types that helps them nullify or at least reduce the effectiveness of their type matchups while greatly increasing said type's effectiveness like if I can remember:

And before anyone asks, "What's your reference Xhin!", Total Eclipses. When the Moon Blots out the Sun (in a simplified explanation)

    - Fighting type moves will have greatly reduced accuracy (making moves such as High Jump Kick EVEN RISKIER) because unless you are blind monks, one can't fight with fists when they are surrounded by pitch black darkness.

    - ALL Fairy types will have greatly reduced defenses to Dark type moves because being surrounded by total pitch black darkness is greatly depressing even for a fairy, thus making them be much less resistant to damage. 2EDGY4SYLVEON

    - All dark type moves deal more damage and all fighting and fairy type moves will deal only 50% damage

If Gamefreak could pull this kind of idea off for S&M, I'd be more than happy and get my respect back for the franchise.

I agree with gimmiepie re: not being weather.

However the moon does have a purpose sort of, it DOES cloak the day in darkness. You can't have sunshine without the moon going down, etc. I guess it could have real world (in-game real world) effects - turns night suddenly when used outside of battle, and inside of battle it makes Pokemon stronger that would not be too unlikely.

I mean don't get me wrong it would be cool to have in-game night-making effects outside of the battle but I can't see a reason to add a moon weather because it simply isn't weather. :(

I appear to have misled people with what I was saying. I'm not referring to outside of battle mechanics at all, just a during-battle move very similar to Sunny Day. And saying that the moon's presence isn't weather is just like saying that a sunny day isn't weather. There are nights where the moon is out more, the same as the sun coming out during the day. If you can change the weather to strong sunlight during battle, why not strong moonlight? Besides, you can use Sunny Day at night time, so I see no reason why you couldn't bring the moon out during the day. Saying that the moon isn't weather is saying that the sun being out isn't weather either

I know the move Moonlight heals more HP when strong sunlight is in play, because I do know that moonlight is caused by the sun shining on it. However, like Nica said the moon doesn't really scream off "weather" to me.

Maybe instead of a new weather, it could be a Terrain move instead? Like Grassy, Electric, and Misty... Misty Terrain already works in favor of Fairies, to an extent, and Moonlight is already boosted by Sunny Day (I actually think the reason for that is because in Japanese, Sunny Day is "Clear Skies," and when the sky is clear you can see the moon better, because there are no clouds in front of it--but anyways...), but "Night Terrain" could maybe still affect these things.

The first thing I'd think is it would affect airborne Pokémon and not just grounded ones like the other Terrain moves. It would boost Water- and Dark-Type moves by 50% (Water because, as people have said, the moon affects the tide). It would also boost "Moon" attacks by 50%, and increase the amount Moonlight heals. And then Dark-Type Pokémon cannot be put to Sleep (they're in their element, after all). Not sure how balanced that is but... it's just kinda tough since "moon-based" moves are all Fairy-Type (even Moonlight was re-typed), but the moon is also associated with nighttime and for obvious reasons that is associated with Dark-Types... Fairy-Type is already strong as it is and already has their own Terrain so I'd like for something like "Night Terrain" to buff Dark more than Fairy...

Oh yeah, I get that you weren't referring to that, but personally it just made me think of outside of battle effects more than anything. I think it would be cool that if we did have it outside of the battle. LoZ has it, so I don't see why Pokemon can't (after so many generations...) If there's a night-exclusive Pokemon and you really want it, boom, change the time of day. I mean if any game needs it, it's this game. People are gonna play with clocks anyways, why not make it a little more beneficial?

But yeah... still not entirely sold on it in the battle, but if it does end up existing, we definitely need outside of battle effects.
