Yorda from ICO. Your pretty much stuck inside this giant castle without her help in all those elaborate puzzles.

On second thought... she's more of hassle actually, lol.

Most helpful? Arbiter, from Halo 3, IMO.
At least he does shoot things and help, unlike some NPC's I've encountered (coughNavicough). >.>

I'll have to admit though, I liked Midna from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess a lot. :3

The most helpful one I've had was Jericho I think, so lets go with him...
