Fishing in gen 3. I'm used to the current fishing mechanics where an exclamation pops up when you catch something, so playing Emerald on emulator was strange. I just don't understand how to fish in that game. I think I only ever caught one Pokémon.
GTS in gen 4/5 vs gen 6/7. I tried using the GTS in White 2 (with a trick with the DNS code number) and it's so much harder to navigate. The worst part is that if you don't have the Pokémon you're looking for either seen or registered in the dex, you can't search for it. (I didn't have any of the PIPLUP line in my dex! My favorite Pokémon!! You couldn't imagine how hard it was to get one 😭) The newer GTS fixed this with the "What Pokémon?" button that lets you type in the name of any Pokémon so you can search for Pokémon not in your dex.
EDIT: I thought of some other ones:
- sorting the items in the bag by name. I like it better alphabetized because it makes it easier to find items. This was not a function before gen 5 (I think?) so playing Diamond and Pearl on emulator, it frustrates me that the items are thrown in the bag all willy-nilly. Please let me alphabetize my items, I just function better that way.
- being able to register multiple key items for the Y button. When I play gen 3/4 games, I usually just have it set to the bike, but what if I need to fish? You're telling me I either have to open the bag over and over to use the fishing rod, or unregister the bike and register the fishing rod and conveniently forget to set it back to the bike once I'm done fishing when I press Y to use the bike? Madness!
- making the X button close out of all menus, instead of having to hit the B button multiple times to close the menu.
