I've been a member of the PokeCommunity forums for a while, and I like it here. However, I believe we need to have some love for 2v2 battles, as a lot of people (myself rawr!) really enjoy them! I'd love it if we could create a 2v2 subtopic so we could talk there, because often I post about my Pokes and people slam them because they don't seem to get that it's not solo. ANYWAY.
I've had a team for 2v2 for quite some time. After much tweaking, I've become happy with the results.
I mainly play on PBR due to the fact I have no way to organize matches on the DS at home, so I set up with random battles. Some are ubers, some are newbs, but occasionally I find a great fight.
I am posting this because I am new to Smogon and heard you guys were great at helping people hone their teams and have a good knowledge of Movesets.
Here they are, this is my team. There are TWO VARIANTS of this team. One with Manaphy, one without. When Manaphy is put in, Gardevoir is taken out.
Siigari's Riot Team
"Spike"
Bellossom @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 128 Def, 128 Sp Def, 4 HP
Nature: Impish
- Toxic
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Magical Leaf
Brought out not as a first hard hitter, but mostly as a backup for Ninetales, Bellossom flares up Sunny Day, then his speed increases for a next turn toxic or Solarbeam. In the event of an Airlock, Bellossom starts with Toxic and then moves into Magical Leafing. With high defense stats, this little plant Poke stays on the field longer than even I'd expect.
"Flaredown"
Ninetales @ Lax Incense
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Confuse Ray
- Flare Blitz
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
Realizing that quite a few players use special sweepers right of the start, that generally means they have low standard defense. I threw Ninetales in at the beginning of the match to wail away with Flare Blitz. Lax Incense keeps him in just that much longer in case the opponent looks for the fire hose. Fact is, Ninetales usually lasts about three turns. If there are no targets viable enough to Flare Blitz, Confuse Ray is the order of the day. Sunny Day is in case there are additional fire pokes on the field and Bellossom is out of the picture.
"Skylite"
Shiny Electrode @ Razor Claw
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: Mixed over Speed, Sp Def, and HP
Nature: Gentle
- Magnet Rise
- Thunderbolt
- Torment
- Mirror Coat
This Electrode is my first Shiny I ever caught, and I caught him as a Voltorb. Training his Speed and Sp Defense, I believed that Mirror Coat would prove efficient against one-hit-wonders such as Dragon Pulse, Spacial Rend, and others, and it has proved true. I have found PBR players use a lot of special attacks against Pokemon they're not too sure about, and Electrode is underused in my opinion, so it deserves to threaten the big poke users.
"Ricochet"
Glaceon @ Leftovers
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 252 HP, 4 Sp Def
Nature: Modest
- Icy Wind
- Ice Beam
- Double Team
- Substitute
Already I can hear most of you groaning. "Double team? wtf?" Well, it proves useful when I get behind the Substitute. Realizing that Glaceon is generally primary as soon as he appears on the field, I have to find a way to make a tank out of him quickly. I will NEVER put Glaceon next to another slow Poke if possible, due to the fact that Glaceon is slow enough as it is. Glaceon is a damage assist poke in most cases, and makes quick work of just about anything I haven't taken down already. The Icy Wind levels the playing field out a bit as well, so it's usually my first move when Glaceon shows up.
Lumineon
Lumineon
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Nature: Modest
- Whirlpool
- Aqua Ring
- Tickle
- Water Pulse
Lumineon makes a great annoyer. With suprisingly high defense stats, it can generally take at least one super effective hit and remain in the fight. Starting up with Whirlpool, it closes a Poke in the field, then begins rushing with Water Pulse for confusion. Tickling may come if Water attacks are totally a waste of time and the target poke is high physical damage.
"Zocalo"
Gardevoir @ Wide Lens
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 128 Def, 128 Sp Def, 4 HP
Nature: Calm
- Psychic
- Hypnosis
- Double Team
- Dream Eater
Gardevoir is an interesting choice for this team, generally as a backup Poke in case I detect serious nastiness afoot (generally a team full of Ubers). Gardevoir has a puzzling moveset, and even I could use some help honing it. Dream Eater keeps it in long enough in case of massive damage, which generally happens due to its slow speed starting up. Double team generally gets used a bit, however I'm currently searching for a replacement for that move.
---VARIANT IN PLACE OF GARDEVOIR---
Manaphy
Manaphy @ Damp Rock
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 Sp Atk, 252 HP, 4 Sp Def
Nature: Quirky
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Rain Dance
- Rest
A tribute to just how solidly frustrating an uber can be, Manaphy remains in the fight for the stay, when put in. When I place Manaphy in my party, it's generally because I just want to see Manaphy. I obtained this Manaphy legitly, and it is my only one. Quirky nature I won't shake a fist at. Anyway, moving to the fight, Rain Dance first turn always, unless the field is wet already. Instantly followed up by Tail Glows, moving towards a "3 Tail Glow Surf." Devastation generally follows, and many a battle have I wound up with the super tiny Manaphy left as the only poke left on the field.
Overall impressions:
This set of pokes is solid, and generally winds up knocking the kids for quite a spin. Using strange, but effective tactics, it's a straight attack/damage setup and I am pleased with it's performance. However, due to the number of matched moves with some pokes, I am seeking advice on a better possible set for some of them. However, I am not interested in changing the pokes. Gardevoir may be a swappable one, but I'd like to find a good move set for it first.
